  • 06:45, that's how you control your bitch

  • The weirdest use of a wah wah pedal has to be David Gilmour's seagull effect on Echoes.

  • After seeing the Dimebag clip I'm sorry but I gotta say this;

    Zoom G9 2 UTT.

There's a patch on it that I tweaked the hell out of that has an amazing sound somewhere between a wah AND a talkbox with delay thrown in when you turn the expression pedal to the side. Ino THOSE are the kinds of sounds you want for a wah and needs to be explored further!!!

  • @0adireita it's not there man :|

  • When I think of "cry baby" I think of Curtis Mayfield's original song "getto child" that didn't end up on the Superfly album (maybe to dark for the soundtrack)

You just can't forget the haunting solo he is able to create.

  • I was just gonna right the same thing.. I'm surprised they didn't mention him in this.

  • @tyleryesta1 Cool! That's what the "thumbs up button" is for ;)

  • I love it when they explain the sound of the wah-wah xD

  • Zakk Wylde can munch on my Balls

  • @tonyhawksacriminal Thanks man, I found it:)

  • 3:16 ... If ONLY Larry had busted out some Possessed!

  • Zakk said it man. It's like Pb&J. I love my classic CryBaby with the red Fasel inductor.

  • After 10 years of playing guitar, I finally got my 1st Wah last week!!

  • DIMEBAG!

  • 7:30 WAH BEAST!!

  • kirk hammett shouldnt even be in this..

  • What is it that Dunlop's daughter says when asked if she's ever used one to break into her own car? I can't work it out.

  • @MrPoundNote i believe zakk wyldle said that he smashed a window to break into his car its very effective

  • @rockexpert Yeah, I laughed at that bit, but it sounds like she's saying 'no, but I borrowed one to wah with before'

  • @MrPoundNote She says, "No, but I've bartered for wine with 'em before."

  • At 10:29 right after Wah-Wah Watson says "I look at...", I thought the video froze for a second.

  • "...Wah can be over used..." *cough cough KIRK HAMMETT cough cough*"

  • @Doomzdayxx 12,15,12,15,12,15

  • @Doomzdayxx yeah he over use it but just in 90's-. In the 80's he almost never use it :P Somone that over use it is Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave.

  • @freackyvice Yeah. EVERYTHING about Metallica was best in the 80s. and yes, douchebag hypocrite from RATM does overuse the wah

  • Comment removed

  • @Doomzdayxx My thoughts exactly :p

  • @Doomzdayxx Kirk hammett uses the wah tastefully! Kirk knows exactly when to use it and when no to and it never sounds like its over bearing. also if you have a wah you'll know just how addictive the damn things are! there so much fun to play with! its not like by playing it, it hides bad playing... you still have to play well so thats all that matters really! you probably hate kirk hammett so.. theres probably no point arguing with ya but i'll give it a go.

  • @mrphilcollins No I don't hate Kirk Hammett. I just don't like how he plays anymore. I like his older stuff (ie MOP,Justice, Lightning). I know he used wah on many of those songs but it wasn't nearly as much. And unlike some, I do believe Hammett is a better fit (and a better lead player) than Dave Mustaine, though Mustaine is awesome for other reasons, but that's all a whole other argument.

  • Kirks a good guitarist who has got a little lazy in his old age admittedly, but when he's on he's great. i personally think that his solos on the black album were his best and they used the wah extensively so thats where i'm coming from. it depends on what style you like, if its the tight thrash solo or a blues rock solo.. i like both so i'm easy to please! End of the line has a complete wah drenched solo and i can't stand behind that because its just shit but everything else is good in my book.

  • @mrphilcollins I'll tell you one thing, st Anger was such a horrendous album that it actually made me miss the Kirk Hammett overused wah solos!

  • @Doomzdayxx it wasn't the greatest thing i'd ever heard at the time but going back to it, it definitely has some great moments. but... thats another story. look he does he doesn't its all opinion to which we probably aren't going to reach a joint decision unless its agree to disagree. what you say is fair to your point of view but i'm sure theres lots of people who disagree and vice versa.

  • @mrphilcollins The thing about that album and the Load albums is that I see it as their first "bad" album. People can say shit all they want about the Load albums but have to admit they were decent ROCK albums. St Anger was obviously trying to fit in a little more with the current metal scene a bit more and failed horribly, of course, since it was under the Metallica name, I'm sure it still sold decently. I know I rushed to go buy the CD when it first came out....shoulda Napster'd it.

  • metallicas first bad album? can't agree with that. black album had some of their best songs, just because they were simplified and not a million miles an hour doesn't make it bad. songs like through the never holier than thou, the unforgiven great songs and the rest of the album is great too with an exception for Don't tread on me. als load was great in my opinion, reload had about five really good songs and the rest... st. anger i kinda agree. death magnetic can't complain musically anyway.

  • @mrphilcollins No no, St Anger was their first bad album. black album was great. It wasn't thrash (which was unfortunate) but it was still metal and still a great album. And like I said it was also disappointing to hear Load and reload since everyone wanted to hear Metallica's bread and butter-Thrash Metal, but regardless, the album(s) were full of good rock songs.

  • @Doomzdayxx agh! misunderstood ya there! yeah i know what ya mean, but if they had made those kind of albums for their entire career they wouldn't be half as big as they are which would more than likely have had an effect on modern metal today (not saying they were the be all and end all) but metallica paved the way for heavy bands to be heavy and commercially successful ala pantera, lamb of god avenged sevenfold. and to bring it back to the original point.... THE WAH WAH ;p its great!!!!

  • @mrphilcollins I believe that after the black album back then in the 90s, if they would of tried to do another thrash record, they would atleast of been very close as far as comparison to their 80s records and also there wouldn't be the (Load,Reload, St Anger) black marks against them. The whole Napster thing was pretty pathetic as well. I WAS a fan of Magnetic though, this is so cliched but it really was a "step in the right direction"

  • @Doomzdayxx Napster... i sound like some stupid fanboy but i agree with what they did... i don't agree with getting the names of people etc but i do agree that if they don't want their music illegally downloaded then a website should withdraw that material especially material which was taken from a studio before it was finished. black marks? thats the reason i like them, they take chances unlike most other thrash bands... it gets boring doing the same thing all the time can't blame them really.

  • @mrphilcollins Yeah they "took chances" but those "chances" are the darker and awkward parts of their career. Yeah bands like Slayer, AC/DC,Motorhead, and many others may not of changed their formula too much, but they didn't need to, they never completely let their fans down at any point, unlike Metallica. With that being said, Tallica's first 4 albums are undoubtedly the bibles of thrash metal and have yet to be surpassed. And as for wah, great invention but CAN be overused, like anything else

  • @Doomzdayxx "great invention but CAN be overused" well that goes for anything even music, formulas in music can become boring as well, i like change, its boring when you know whats coming next in anything especially music, it becomes predictable and to be thats where the music starts to get watered down. bands like ac/dc have both had great careers but both have had dips of the radar due to shoddy albums and lapses in interest. i agree though with your other point wahs can be overused

  • @mrphilcollins Wasn't AC/DC the highest grossing act in 2008? Hmm. I like a little change of course, but I don't like a band that is EXCELLENT at playing one type of music instead play another kind where they are average. Like I said, Metallica absolutely SHINE when playing thrash metal. They're a decent rock band and a HORRENDOUS nu/new/power metal band(whatever the hell st anger was). I like a little variation like you, I like jazz, doesnt mean I want to hear Metallica playing it.

  • i said "dips in interest", on their 2001 tour they were half selling arenas etc now they sell out arena in seconds people are stupid they were too busy with limp bizkit etc. i know what you're saying they were better at the thrashy stuff i agree the albums were more solid and didn't polarise as much as the 90s material but i really don't see the harm in diversifying, just because you're the best at something doesn't necessarily mean you have to love it for a lifetime. opinion! opinion, opinions!

  • @mrphilcollins a7x doesn't use wah pedals

  • @Babyface6200 didn't say they used them, what i said was that metallica helped opene doors for more extreme/heavy music to be accepted by radio/tv

  • @Babyface6200 yes they do, very slightly but they do, they use ernie ball wah pedals

  • @Doomzdayxx And Zakk Wylde now.

  • Great video! But I'd love to slap Eddie Kramer for making that annoying pan effect. I absolutely hate those pan effects (especially when using headphones), they sound as if someone was kicking around the mic in the studio during recording.

  • lol zakk wylde just always looks+sounds intoxicated.

  • haha zakk wylde! laughed my ass off

  • WOOOOOOOOOW GREAT JOB ! CRY BABY ROCKS !!!!!!!!

  • @real13video Yes, it rocks, back and forth! ;)

  • Awesome! I loved all the guys but Paul Gilbert and Eddie Van Halen really made my day. Thanks!

  • Gr8 very cool documentary !!!

  • "it has a special character that no other eq has other than a wah" - well said Paul

  • did zakk wylde say scrat?!?!

  • two thumbs up! thanks a lot!

  • DIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what is the wah at 10:50???

  • @fiftyfiveseventy Yeah, thats what i thought, but cant find any info on it ANYWHERE

  • @fiftyfiveseventy I asked Jim Dunlop's customer service about this wah but they replied that at this time they do not have plans on releasing the Wah Wah Watson custom wah. I hope they'll change their plans soon!!!

  • Is there a way that we can listen to the individual interviews? I really want to watch all of pauls.
