  • Ricky Gervais is a watered down version of Jerry Sadowitz... see this link for a lesson in CLASSY and Professional abuse... if your gonna be abusive get the fuckin' job done properly. RG is a POOF who was bound to be huge in the USA... they have a soft spot for English retards... there is NOTHING that is off limits in comedy... a jokes a joke... in that context: NUFF SAID... NOW FUCK OFF

  • this bald cunt irritates me .. my blood is flowing to my head so fast right now

  • we don't have this word in America. atleast I've never heard it.

  • I like how daybreak tells guests their opinion is wrong based on other opinions that were emailed to them.

  • Wished to see the rest in the green room when mr burns tore her argument apart again.

  • sorry wheres she from? mongcamp was it?

  • ah fuckn mongs. political correctness is wearisome.

  • FUCKING MONGS.

  • saying the word mong doesn't encourage hatred towards the mentally disabled

  • I didn't even know the word existed... now we've got an "m" word. An "n" word. An "f" word...

  • Sarah Bernard looks like a mong.

  • See his show "So this is offensive now" so you'll understand his argument

  • I love this guy

  • does anyone else see the irony in this mirroring the episode of extras with the down syndrome boy

  • Brendon is a mong.

  • MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG MONG

  • what a mong...

  • The holocaust.

  • mong = diagnosis, not insult

  • @ghosterdude When aimed at an actual mong yes, when not, it's an insult.

  • mong mong mong mong... sue me bitch

  • for fuck sake why do people take these words to such extreme levels mong ain't used like that anymore why can't people understand that Ricky just means it as a word just like the word idiot the most annoying thing is he says cunt all the time which is an actuall swear word and no one bats an eye lid but they go loopy over this I love gervais 

  • its taking an australian to highlight britain's problem (!). this woman is represntative of the cancer that is ravaging this country. its not her fault but she's a classic case.

i'm in the infantry and i'd love for people to spend a day working with our lads because they'd hear all sorts of 'offensive' language hurled at each other. cunt, twat, mong, rat, gayboy, lizard, shit lips etc... yet the lads love each other like brothers. this mock offence creeping into society is embarrasing.

  • Is he the man off the coach trip? Never found him that funny.

  • It's not "just a word". People are sickening and cold sometimes, and many blowhards will rant on and on trying to excuse or dismiss bad taste. It's very low brow.

  • ..*people

  • Brendan hits the nail n the head here. The raging political correctness nowadays pushes further and further into the degradation of free speech and like he said its okay to show someone who's been tortured but not someone who may cause 'offence', just because you're offended doesn't mean you can silence peo

  • whatever you think of Gervais and his use of the word mong. Wither it was right or wrong. Brendan Burns comes across as a self righteous sumg twat in this video. Regardless if you agree with what he is saying.

  • That woman looks a little bit like a fish monster.

  • Who's this Brendan character? What an awful cunt.

  • @cardiffwilly a comedian getting offended give me a fucking break all they do is offend people. nice jesus shirt and faggy leather jacket brendan:)

  • i think its up 2 ppl with learning disabilities and their families to decide if their offended by the word...if u choose to use it anyway its up 2 u but its not ur choice as to whether orn not its offensive...because its not aimed at u

  • burns...shhh ur a comedian...she works for MENCAP....know ur role

  • brendon burns is a fucking mong....I know he's not mentally disabled, but I am using it offensively. The word is definately an insult, but isn't an official label to those diagnosed with mental deficiencies.....it's so fucking simple even a mong could work it out

  • Nothing worse than an unfunny person telling you how unfunny something is. It's a joke. Ricky Gervais is a comedian. Do the math.

  • I fail to see what the problem is? If a word or several words actually does REAL harm to people, then we shouldn't use them, at least not in a way that is offensive. If there is no actual harm, then it is okay to use it..... to me it's really that simple! Whatever happened to common sense?!

  • people are so sad , if people like this controlled the world it would be a dictatorship, feel free to say what you want , its called freedom of speech , what exactly happens when someones offended , nothing its just petty , shall we get rid of everything thats fun in life because no matter what anyone would do it would offend someone

  • fuck all this pc bullshit, ima go rape a baby

  • Why are they spazzing over it?

  • As long as theres no direct abuse to anyone then its just a word.

  • The lady here is not saying there should be a law outlawing the word or that Gervais should be prosecuted. She's saying it's offensive and she has every right to say that. End of.

  • Since when did Mong ever mean anything towards Downs people? I never thought it did.

  • @DemonicFlyingUnicorn 'Mong' is a contraction of mongoloid. And Downs syndrome used to be referred to as Mongoloid. It has everything to do with Downs.

  • @DYORPEEPS Express use of the words "USED TO BE"

  • When I say 'used to be'. It was used as an official term to describe the features of downs patients but later considered offensive to Mongolians.

  • @keanosarmy1 Up your arse, sideways.

  • mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong

  • @keanosarmy1 Part 1)Humour helps some people approach areas they don't fully trust. It also helps cunts that genuinely want to laugh at those less fortunate than themselves to feel good about themselves. Now its clear you have taken a position on this and will be tempted to either pretend I am wrong, which would be difficult or say its OK that some people get insulted for the sake of humour.

  • @dorianleakey "2) But comediens do need to put effort into their work and make sure it stands up, Ricky thinks this word has changed meaning and can be used in a different context, but it hasn't, clearly.

Getting the bit between being funny and being a bully is difficult. Now because people like Ricky they will tend to defend his stuff even when he gets it wrong, here he did.

  • (INTRO TO PODCAST)

RICKY: "Karl might not have a formal education but he is good at other things. Like cleaning windows with his f**king tongue, GUMP"!

    KARL: "Bit harsh....alright"

I remember hearing it and being shocked. I didnt laugh. I more disappointed than amused. Like they said in this vid, Gervais usually approaches these isssues intelligently. It seemed as if he was just going for a cheap shock laugh.

  • @tobybrown1988 You're taking it out of context. Ricky's comments there weren't designed to target disabled people, it was just gentle ribbing of Karl. And it was hilarious. I have a mate who is known for being a bit thick, and his nickname is 'downie'. This was not formulated to strike a blow against down's syndrome sufferers. The way to respond to intolerance is not to pile on unnecessary stigma to vague terms. It will only make things worse.

  • @tobybrown1988 If we follow that train of logic, then phrases like 'can't tell your arse from your elbow' could then be seen as shockingly offensive attacks against people who have suffered freak accidents where their anuses have become fused with their elbows.

  • HOWEVER - in previous works, he has said "window licker" and "gump" when refering to Karl Pilkington, both of which are offensive terms for the disabled. So im not sure really....its a shame, because i am a fan. But to me, the words "mong", "window licker" and "gump" are all offensive.

If your saying its okay for him to say them and offend disabled people (because of free speech). Your also saying that its okay for him to say words like "nigger", "paki" and "spaz".

  • @tobybrown1988 I am prepared to let window licker go, because its just so bizarre, and probably less of a real insult for real people, because disabled people of any persuasion do not lick windows, I have not heard it used for real disabled peoiple. Never heard gump.

Mong on the other hand was used in very specific circumstances, and its used less but it still is used, which is what makes it still a mistake to use.

  • Most comic's avoid certain words because they ONLY have offensive connotations. Im sure Gervais wouldnt dare say "nigga" or "paki" or "spaz" because there is no way he could really defend it. Personally, ive only ever heard "mong" used in a nasty way (usually refering to disabled people), which, like the other offensive words ive mentioned, is not acceptable.

Im a huge fan of Gervais, and I think if he genuinly didnt realize the accociation between "mong" and disabeled people, its excusable...

  • I genuinely have never heard the word "mong" used to refer to disabled people. Just to people doing something stupid. e.g. "John, you spilled milk on the floor, you mong!"

  • When I use mong I just use it to refer to someone doing something stupid, I'm not saying 'down syndrome people' to my friends, that wouldn't even apply in the situation my friends aren't scared of cars.

Surely sanctifying certain minorities and going PC about them is worse than allowing words like mong because. So it's wrong to call someone a mong and insult down syndrome kids but by allowing words like slut, whore, ginger, you fat fucking c-unt it suggests those minorities as less valid.

  • NIGGER MONG - seriously who the fuck did that offend. Anyone offended should be shot in the face and arse raped.

  • mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong mong, take that you mong faced ugly cow............................pathetic.

  • No he didn't tear her apart, he is a moron, bringing an Australian into an argument about ignorance is unwise. The `N' word is just a word, and has had its meaning changed by its use by black people - BUT IT STILL RETAINS ITS FORMER MEANING - just like the word mong.

  • that guy's kind of an asshole

  • Why have they got someone like Brendan Burns on this show. He is a comedian that is unfunny, ignorant and irrelevant. He doesn't understand what is going on and would rather create new arguements for the sake of publicity and screen-time rather than talk about what he has been invited to talk about. What a tit.

  • That comedian tore her apart there. And rightly so. As people say these days 'owned'.

  • She is a mong.

  • Anyone who thinks "mong" isn't offensive is a fucking retard.

  • @jjdecani You're just as bad as those saying mong....ya spastic

  • @jjdecani Shup ya mong

  • @jjdecani lol

  • @jjdecani quality!!

  • @jjdecani it's meant to be offensive.

  • everytime i see a mong i now think of ricky

  • First time I've seen that guy Brendan Burns. Seems like a real prick and a bit of a bully.

  • monggggggg

  • I have NEVER heard Mong be used against disabled.

  • @AlexBaldwinFTW Me neither. :p

  • Karl pilkington fucking mong

  • the bich in the black is a fucking mong

  • Harry Hills brother is on his period. What a mong.

  • being offended does not hurt you. its part of life now fuck off you mongs!!!

  • mongs

  • the guy here is a mong

  • wankers, get a life

  • To admit to being offended by words or language means admitting to defeat. People who get offended LOVE that moment, it empowers them. Their inadequency in conversation or argument is suddenly unwittingly mitigated by their central nervous systom becoming enlivened in a way that they then deem to be negative. How sad. Enjoy life - even when it's shit, even when it's disappointing and even when it's offensive. There's alway tomorrow, my fellow cunts...

  • the presenter is acting like a mong, treating the comic like a idiot.even though hes right

  • for god sake, nothing should be off limits, mong can mean disabled person but it can also mean div asin an idiot thats what i used it for in my school days, these people are arsehols who just want to censor us all.

just because they think mong mean disabled doesnt mean it downt have other meanings

  • Susan Boyle claims she has never been kissed..... evidence in itself that Scotland's alcohol problem can't be as bad as we thought.......

  • This comedian is a fucking twat.

  • i can say "dumb ass" which means deaf and blind but thats okay.. why not mong?

  • Having watched it I have a second observation - that Australian 'comedian' is an annoying twat.

  • What a stupid introduction - 'we're not going to repeat it because it does cause offence' - seriously, some people need to get a life. How are people supposed to have an opinion if they don't even know what a word is? Journalists have become some pussies in this country.

  • MONG - MONG - MONG - MONG - MONG deal with it...

  • rickys just copying chris rock with his "black people /niggers" bit and louie cks faggot bit.

  • All of these people apart from the comedian are mongs.

  • She looks like she should be a beneficiary of the charity she is representing

  • the aussie is a fucking legend

  • he didnt mean mong as in down syndrome ffs

  • Media CREATE controversy simply to gain more "views".

They know Ricky Gervais can be a big talking point and use this to their advantage.

  • There are no 'bad words'. It's all about context. No words should be off limit. It all depends on how you use them.

  • Haha have people seen South Park... Leave Ricky alone and PC up arse.

  • Wow, odious people exist that call DS people mongs? That's awful.

  • what a bunch of mongs

  • Mong, Spatist, Queer, Nigger, Brit, Aussie, Paki will always used as insults if people keep complaining about them. Embrace them and it will go away.

  • lol , how much of a pussy have you got to be to be offended by a word , my uncle has down syndrome what do you think he thinks about the word mong?

  • This world has gone mad! I'm a lesbian and when I see comics making fun of lesbians I'm not bothered at all! It's COMEDY, nothing should be off limits. I have yet to meet a person with Downs that would even know what "Mong" meant.

  • Lmfao. It's just a word you MONGS. Get over it, fuck political correctness it ruined this world.

  • Dont mess with an award winning comedian. You are going to lose. He took them all on and shut them up.

    Brilliant Gaddafi reference

  • OH, the rest of us didnt see that bit

  • But he's not aiming insults at disabled.

  • Who is that aussie twat?

  • fuck off u mong

  • That guy is a complete mong.

  • what a bunch of mongs

  • So, is "mong" the British version of "retard" ?

  • @areology Yes, tho' the US version "retard" is used as well.

  • holy shit, that guy is so fucking stupid and annoying

  • Monggate.

  • @twilsonmcrghost So don't watch them.

  • Not one good point made on either side. Terrible discussion.

  • OMG it causes offence!!!

  • Penny Smith: "we picked pacific pictures...". Specific dear. Specific.

  • I love this guy!

  • Why would Ricky choose this week to be controversial? Life's too short. Starring Warwick Davis. Who I call a Long. Anybody who thinks it's about anything but publicity is a Jong.

  • @stooom Ricky Gervais doesn't seek publicity for the sake of it. He understands the difference between fame and infamy. And i think his principles on the subject are justified. This whole debate sprung from the fact that he set up a twitter account. which he DID set up to promote his work. obviously. but i don't think he anticipated how stupid some of his fans are... and that many of them were going to miss-interprate his comments as offensive. He hasn't changed... his blog is proof of that.

  • It's annoying that they couldn't find someone better for Ricky's defence! This 'comedian' is too defensive and isn't very clear in his opinions on the debate. He needs to stop attacking the woman next to him and start addressing the debate.

  • its got nothing to do with the word being linked to disability because obviously it IS linked to down syndrome. What matters is the context in which it's used. That's what determines whether it's offensive of not. and Ricky Gervais has never used that word to mean 'down syndrome' or 'disability', therefore it isn't offensive (in the way he uses it). This 'debate' is SO TIRESOME.

  • @ActionMirror

    Completely agree.

  • @ActionMirror

    WELL FUCKING SAID!!!

  • @marxist29 ... well you're clearly a very intelligent person, with a great taste in comedy. I hope you enjoyed the most recent series of The Catherine Tate Show and The Big Bang Theory. Is Michael Mcintyre's new stand up DVD out? I hope your pre-order doesn't get lost in the post... fingers crossed!

  • @ActionMirror

Were ENCOURAGED to treat people EQUALLY yet when it comes to comedy disabled people are given an advantage.

What if we placed limits on disabled people? It wouldnt be rite.

  • @HowardWolowitzFan I agree. We are encouraged to treat people equally. But we're not encouraged to make fun of people for things 'they can't help'. That's why it would be offensive IF Ricky was using the word 'mong' as a way of ridiculing people with disabilities. My point was, that no matter what people think of the word - its all down to the intent of the word. Ricky's use of the word didn't evoke any connotations negativity, let alone disability.

  • @ActionMirror I love Ricky, but I can't help but think that when he was talking about Susan Boyle ("Is she a mong?") that the context it is being used in is to mean down's syndrome. Obviously it isn't offensive, though.

  • @FeedbackVoice Towards the end of that routine, he does attempt to justify himself by explaining that he doesn't mean to say Susan Boyle has down syndrome (or that he thinks that), however i'm not a big fan of that 'bit', as i do feel Susan Boyle is an easy target and i don't think it's particularly original or innovative to make fun of her for the way she looks.
