The Russians would have given the Iranians factory seconds no matter what the US does as they never give away their best stuff Google the term monkey model.
Also need to include SNC's dream chaser in this it's as far along as the CST-100 and unlike Soyuz it lands at an ordinary airport.
Why should SpaceX price their seats so far below market rates? Do American private companies give up $40M per seat out of the goodness of their hearts?
@sharrynuk SpaceX's price of $20M per seat is based on 4 flights a year each having 7 paying passengers. NASA has said they will need 2 flights a year with up to 4 passengers on each flight and keep in mind NASA usually picks two providers, not just one. So in order for SpaceX to get to that price a market needs to materialize outside of NASA.
@sharrynuk SpaceX operating costs are lower than other providers across the board. They designed and built their own family of lift vehicles in house and have much more control over their program than other providers who have less of a vertical monopoly. Also, the reason Mr. Musk founded SpaceX in the first place was to provide access to space that was more economical than current providers. Paraphrasing Mr. Musk, "If NASA is building the corvette of spaceflight, I'm building the truck."
A billion a launch of the capsule huh?
That's interesting, since not a zero estimate actually says that.
But I guess it is easier to make up numbers then actually do research.
