I think this is an amazing man who should be an insperation to everyone, most people would have just given up, but he carried on through pain, and to me that is just as good as winning
stop complaining about the bible verses at the end. if they annoy you so much, then stop watching when it gets to that part or watch a different video. and for the record, it's not saying that god was the cause of this. it's using this situation as a metaphor for god's fatherly love for his people. ok?
i have been looking on here to find a video that has the real footage """without music""" i want to re-live that moment but cant because people put music on top !!!!!
my mom said she rememberd waching this when she was younger about my age..im 12 an i have to say that tis is touching to me i love my daddy and this man has damn sure great one! p.s- i dont care thAT i sweard
my teacher put this on in assembly today when talking about the olympics, and people setting goals and not giving up, and she told us that he finished the race because he set himself a target - to finish the race. i was in tears today when watching this, i think it's truly beautiful.
way to take a triumph by humanity and spew your religious shit into it. It wasn't God who pushed this man, it was his unbreakable spirit and amazing father.
One can interpret this in so many ways, I like to think of it as us humans, portrayed as Derek Redmond, and God, being the father in the video, and how God is always there for us even in our troubles and he picks you up when you're in need. That's how I look at the video. I liked the religious part at the end, it's true, encouraging, and inspiring.
I remember watching this race live, Derek Redmond is forever a legend. But i must comment on who put yhis clip on here.......... there were no stretcher bearers and why do you refer to his dad as being a large man... why didn't you just say his dad.
And the bible bit at the end there is no need for... if god wanted him to get through this he wouldn't have allowed him to tear his hamstring in the first place
Heart determination to finish the race I say, he kept pushing no matter how much heart broken he lost that day. As he limped around the track, his father came waving to the medic to please get back..the son was in tears and in so much pain, the world will never forget the father and son 92 Olympic games. Never quit no matter what you do, this is an example of determination to follow through. They are winners in my book, I'm proud to say, It just a reminder, to always finish & never quit noway!
does anyone else think it looked a little rude at 1;01 when the guy took out his camera? i mean, i dont think he'd be able to help anyways cuz im sure security would take him down first but idk, it just bugged me like, really dood?
@rml53595 He's a photographer... that's his job. If all photographers put down their camera and helped out in a situation like this we wouldnt know about it because there would be no one to record it. So are you like 'dood' because he did his job? What about the 1000s of other people all around that did nothing? What about the other athletes who had access and the ability to go to the aide of a fellow competitor?
Why can't something be inspiring without all these Bible quotes? I don't attribute any of this to God, rather the strength of will and the love of a father. Why can't we just accept that as the cause of this?
@DiNoSaWr22 I don't want to throw mud or start conflicts, I just felt that this was such a feat of pure will power of a son and father, and that they deserve all credit. But I suppose that could also work.
Probably the saddest and most inspiring thing i hav ever seen ! It would hav been so easy to just liedown and get carried of by stretcher but he wanted to finish!
Leave it to Christians to relate this back to god. it wasn't god that had him finish the race, it was his OWN perseverance and his father's compassion for him.
@skalamin i hope you get fucking hit by a semi you ruthless bastard. Can't wait till you get a reality check of how ignorant you are you fucking prick . Hope you're proud of yourself, you're worless to society.
when i first watched this video, i cried.. it is really inspiring.. to watch a father who was there for his son.. i miss my father.. it would have been better to grow up with your father.. yeah, if only my father is still alive, he could be the best..
Doesn't it just figure ... another parent who can't stand being out of the spotlight. Sort of like Michael Phelps' old lady or the Williams sisters' nutzo father.
this viedo is most inspirng one.... this tells us what ever happends we most complete the task sincerily then god will help us....... like father in our troubles.......

This clip says so much!
Do you know Derek Redmond? Well you're on this YouTube page so I expect so.
Do you know who won the race? No.... EXACTLY!
Some things are more important than winning or a gold medal.

As far as I'm concerned the Olympics is not about gold, silver, or bronze medals...
It is the spirit of believing in yourself and giving everything you can in the name of sport, friendship and humanity.
This guy, and his incredibly supportive father, is an amazing example of that.
