im sorry but any decent player would smash or loop your chop with ease so I think that before you start telling people how to play their shots wrong you should look at some better youtube videos to see how its done
i have play table tennis and i have make those without no problem.(i have learn by myself)and was teaching very hard and been the advanced(then i stop it and after ca:1 year i start it again then i was easy but when i training i cut feel i was been better.then they say you was lucky and again)
he's technically not wrong but his form is far from perfect. If you're going to chop you're going to be a bit further from the table than that and your stroke should go from your ear down to your knee.
As far as the push goes, you should only be using that for low backspin serves. The point of a push? Put the ball in an awkward position and set yourself up for the attack.
what makes you think you know all the things about table tennis, to give such comment as that?! if you're good, just shut the fuck up because you sound narrow minded giving such comments...fucker...
@ExcALibur244527 You are so articulate. And obviously broad minded and so knowledgable about table tennis. I'll tell you who I am. (Without cussing). I'm a veteran international. A 3 star coach. I have played all over the World and I learned to chop (correctly) over 40 years ago. This guy is pathetic and (a year ago) I wouldn't want novice players thinking that this was REAL chopping. Amateurs should not be giving crap advice.
LOL man, i ve now 17 years playing table tennis in a competition level (i hard train 4 hours everyday) and i play in circuits in europe (i m 24 year old)
Even if my level allows me to beat you 11-0 in 3 sets each, i dont feel that i have enough level to make a video "teaching" people "how to play table tennis"
You are misleading new players (kids) who really want to do some progress in this game
Just dont make these videos anymore, find another way & respect youtube users.
no but if you are playing a defender and they chop it high you should flat hit it hard and it will go over... Watch Waldner against a defender and he loops the first two and then he flat hits it...
I think perhaps... Intermediate Village would be a better name. Just a bunch of people pretending to be experts when in fact they barely know just the basics. I like the ones where they try to teach me how to play volleyball. Wow yeah, expert village allright. Maybe we can just call em Amateur Village.......
His chops are WAY to high. A ball like that would give the opponent an easy kill shot. He said that it would most likely go into the net when hit with a topspin swing. In reality, if you were to play in a real match, more often than not, your opponent would know how to read your spin and send it back without too much trouble.
This guy is at the table tennis level of someone player for about 3 months or less. He has no technique. Don't try and defend him, watch any pro and compare the times he DOES demonstrate a shot with theirs. Even compare this to the chop video by pingskills... i think you will notice it then.
Can't you have your own technique? I know how to spin ball after you get serve, and I learned that by myself, I know how to do the chop with the same position if you have nice chanse. Today we played tennis like for 2h, and we played for fun, learning new stuff that could be usefull.
You are clearly playing at a very very very low level. Doesn't matter if you can get it on or "spin", it's the level of spin, recovery times, positioning, speed, timing and many more factors. There is no point in "his own technique" that can't be proven by a ranking, coaching level or an viability at ANY level (not even club).
please if a pro who knows what hes talking about and answer my question that would be great.
as a defensive player, what would you try to ultimately accomplish while doing these chops. wouldnt the backspin make it easier for the opponent to continuously top spin it to you? and wouldnt you just be ultimately dragging out the inevitable doom? or are you basically waiting for the opponent whos smashing it on you to screw oup themselves? why do a chop? whats it's purpose?
when u put back spin on a ball it is going to be a lot harder for them to return it with top spin. simply because what they are use to hitting is going to already have top spin on it essentially sending it into the net off their paddle.
When you do the backspin chops its harder for them to do the topspin. The chop purpose i think is mainly putting lots of back spin in it so the opponent can get it
the two moves generate underspin, when the opponents paddle grips the underspin it would go down, possibly to the net and you get a point, if you top spin it, it would either go to the net, or if it goes over the net without hitting the net it would give a large amount of top spin to the opponent, which makes it high letting you smash, are you hapy now?
nice tutorial but i bet dat's too high dat even if u don't loop it, just do a semi-loop forehand drive combination u wud be in a lot trouble especially if d ball wud be returned at d same place wer u pushed or chopped it...
i feel your chop is a bit too high. when it hits the table it sits up and ur gonna get raped. well thats what hapened to me anyway. now when i chop i basicly send the ball with heavy underspin but it dosent loop. it flies in just a straight line but i can adjust how hard i hit it depending where i want my shot to end up. but good video tho. i thought that chopping was for sidespin not an underspin!
Cool video, I think chopping's a unique style, and I was looking for some tutorials on chopping and defense. Useful tips, but it would be better if the ball were a bit lower. Watch Joo Se Hyuk or Koji Matsushita for great defense. Their reflexes are awesome.
shakehand. or atleast thats what i think. penhold is more for people who become very experienced using the shakehand and want to try somehting new. because the e-hold has a much looser grip adn takes much more skill to use
Shakehand has decent forehand and backhand control and power. Penhold has potential for very strong forehand power and spin, but has a weak backhand. The penhold also gives better footwork potential.
The point is, neither is better it just depends on how you use them.
yeah...I kinda have to agree...it's a very very good video, very useful tips..and I knew by your movement that you are pretty proffesional. But... you should have chopped it lower....good video though...I support you!
isn't your push a little too high.? just work on it.

make sure your pushes clear the net by at least 8 to 12 inches, and be sure to swing the paddle directly forward when you're chopping.

nicholasquah 3 years ago
Im an immediate player
but ive competed in competitions with several SeeMiller family players
BTW Seemiller = 1 of the best American players ever
Chops are meant for UPSETTING the pace of your opponent & unless he executes the necessary Top-spin swing
the ball usually goes into the net
BTW pal these videos are for people just learining to play so cut the guy some slack will ya
