Governor Quinn would actually become their first official governor once Hawaii actually became a state. He would serve until being defeated in a close election in 1962. He ran for the U.S. Senate in 1976, but was unsuccessful. He would later be president of the Dole Pineapple Company and chairman of the Honolulu Symphony. He died in 2006 at the age of 87.
IDK, John seemed pretty eager to see the ladies (or at least one of them) in grass skirts. It's always strange yet amusing when Dorothy makes playful comments.
"I'm still working on tangentle!" (tangential) lol
Did the producers tell them to force the sexual angle wherever they could? I mean, a lot of the occupations could stray into that area, but here the guy seemed to go straight to "what about touching HERP DERP"
When the governor of then-territory of Alaska was on, and was asked if he worked for the federal government the answer was an questionable yes. I wonder why the change between Alaska and Hawaii.
This is Fun- since at this time Hawaii was NOT a state - and thus Mr Quinn squeezed between several cracks and avoided direct identification-&- It would not be until 1974 before an actual native son of Hawaii would be Governor of the State- George Ariyoshi- served from 1974 until 1986 (3 terms + declared to step in as Gov- )
Wasn't this about the time of the controversy between Daly and Kilgallen? I note she seems to be upset with him over the explanations Daly game. It might be heightened by their dispute.
When he became Hawaii's first state Governor, William Quinn eventually appeared as a guest panelist. That appears on YouTube in Mahalia Jackson mystery guest clip.
A week after Hawaii's statehood, on the same broadcast featuring mystery guest Rick Nelson, Hawaii's first US senator Orin Long appeared as a contestant.
"Are you associated with an island near San Francisco?" Bennett asked, then disqualified himself.
Arlene mumbled, "Well, the only island I know by San Francisco is Alcatraz." LOL

And a few years after Hawaii became the 50th state, a future President was born there.

@shoredude2 Maybe Hawaii had home rule as a territory, while Alaska was under federal jurisdiction.
