Oh, I took a couple of astronomy classes in my undergraduate study. But I'm done with school now and don't see myself returning anytime soon. However, I will keep up to date with the ever growing discoveries.
There is a site on the net that goes into the math for a very accurate worm gear drive for accurate positioning, with at least 6 major measurements taken into account (the atmosphere is one of the last of them). Interesting stuff, and Wikipedia has an entry on the final topic too as Astronomical interferometer
Lol, im not disagreeing that this "dawn of a dictatorship" type country doesn't act out of line all the time. Your right, the people running this country for the last 60 or so years have really fucked things up. This country is nothing like its supposed to be. Our founding fathers would roll over in there graves if they knew the kind of fascist/Dictorial kinda shit that's going on now.
American contribution to science: Widespread Capitalism, freeing science and scientists to flourish, discover and invent freely, without a King or Queen.
Wow sugarpud: I say something nice about America, and you come out with a whole plateful of anti-America stats...Noone emigrates to any other country on earth with as much hope, and as much possibility of a better life, than America.........leave.
dont knock it til you try it, and dont speak against statistics or be mad at others that choose reality over dreaming.
Theres much backlash against america even from americans because unlike you, we are upset about how far our country has fallen and want to fix it, but acknowledging our faults is the first step to recovery, and too few will accept it.
When you see those stats, you should instead say, yes, we have alot to fix.
Um, Walt: If you look back, I started this thread, with no attack on anyone. I simply made a positive statement about one of America's contributions to the world. Since then, you and others have piled on with critical comments about America. I never said we didn't have problems. I never said we don't have things to fix....Can you say something positive about America?
I wouldnt have attacked you for saying anything, that was true but then you said something that did upset me, which is this idea that just because somebody comes here with hope, that such hope has any validity to it.
Saying good things about any country is fine. But your original positive about america was a lie anyway.
Capitalism has nothing to do with prosperity of sciences.
In fact, many great sciences have happened at universities and through government funding.
walt, i'm sorry you're upset by people coming to America with hope. But that's what they do, and that hope gives way to a good life in this country through hard work and determination. Usually.
Of course Capitlism has helped breed the intellectual freedom and the freedom to experiment in this country. Away from the direct rule of a king of dictator, many great minds flourished , and especially Capitalism allowed the great industrialists that built the infrastructure of this country. .......
Fascinating video. With the space telescopes getting the press, it's good to know that important work & discoveries are still being made here on Earth.
Very interesting. It's so overwhelming to look at the stars and imagine how many there are, and how many planets orbit around them, and how much life should live on some of them.

In fact, immigrants are running up huge credit card & mortgage debts now; cashing out; and, going back to their country of origin with the money
Others who intend to work for a living are heading to Canada to help build their infra-structure

I think you would like Canada. leave.

Oh, and we are burnt out on the big ego america has.
You dont like it in individuals, why would you like it in any country.
So again, you dont leave a country you care about, you educate others and do things to fix it.

In fact, these days medical science is king overseas, and its not the only one. Japanese are kicking our butt in a few areas.
Science also happened before capitalism too, not at any less a pace for its time.
