  • part3 does not work in HD for some reason.

    still loving it :)

  • Refresh and hit the HD button again! :D

  • works now... .)

    was just too anxious

  • well, could have seen that only better on VW's website, should have been driving it!!!!!!!

  • the pic at 4:49 is fucking beautiful. awesome video!

  • Science brought us out of the caves, through the steppes and into modern times. Religious nonsense like Creationism will bring us back!

  • Science rules!

  • this is the evil science religion has been talking about oh noes LOL

  • That is so awesome. Sometimes I wish I would have pursued astronomy.

  • You can always start.

  • Oh, I took a couple of astronomy classes in my undergraduate study. But I'm done with school now and don't see myself returning anytime soon. However, I will keep up to date with the ever growing discoveries.

  • yesss!! nice telescope, btw looks great in HD :))

  • untwinkling the stars with an artificial star.. that just about gave me a hardon... f cking nice.

  • woo go science :)

  • There is a site on the net that goes into the math for a very accurate worm gear drive for accurate positioning, with at least 6 major measurements taken into account (the atmosphere is one of the last of them). Interesting stuff, and Wikipedia has an entry on the final topic too as Astronomical interferometer

  • American contribution to science: weaponry for mass killing

  • Your not really giving credit where credit is due....we've made alot more then just that. Electricity? Cars? Computers?

  • Longest Period of Time America has gone without bombing someone: 2 years

  • Lol, im not disagreeing that this "dawn of a dictatorship" type country doesn't act out of line all the time. Your right, the people running this country for the last 60 or so years have really fucked things up. This country is nothing like its supposed to be. Our founding fathers would roll over in there graves if they knew the kind of fascist/Dictorial kinda shit that's going on now.

  • American contribution to science: Widespread Capitalism, freeing science and scientists to flourish, discover and invent freely, without a King or Queen.

  • and dont forget ... Creationism >:(

  • USA is 49th in world for literacy (NYT Dec 12, 2004)

20% of Americans think the sun revolves around the earth; Europe surpassed USA for production of scientific literature 15 yrs ago

USA is 2nd only to Mexico in poverty among industrialized nations

Women in USA are 70% more likely to die during childbirth than Europeans, (NYT Jan 12, 2005)

USA medicine is ranked 54th in world

Of 50 top world corporations, all but 1 is in Europe!

14 of 20 largest banks are in Europe

  • Wow sugarpud: I say something nice about America, and you come out with a whole plateful of anti-America stats...Noone emigrates to any other country on earth with as much hope, and as much possibility of a better life, than America.........leave.

  • johnny

In fact, immigrants are running up huge credit card & mortgage debts now; cashing out; and, going back to their country of origin with the money

Others who intend to work for a living are heading to Canada to help build their infra-structure

  • I think you would like Canada. leave.

  • dont knock it til you try it, and dont speak against statistics or be mad at others that choose reality over dreaming.

Theres much backlash against america even from americans because unlike you, we are upset about how far our country has fallen and want to fix it, but acknowledging our faults is the first step to recovery, and too few will accept it.

When you see those stats, you should instead say, yes, we have alot to fix.

  • Oh, and we are burnt out on the big ego america has.

You dont like it in individuals, why would you like it in any country.

So again, you dont leave a country you care about, you educate others and do things to fix it.

  • Um, Walt: If you look back, I started this thread, with no attack on anyone. I simply made a positive statement about one of America's contributions to the world. Since then, you and others have piled on with critical comments about America. I never said we didn't have problems. I never said we don't have things to fix....Can you say something positive about America?

  • I wouldnt have attacked you for saying anything, that was true but then you said something that did upset me, which is this idea that just because somebody comes here with hope, that such hope has any validity to it.

Saying good things about any country is fine. But your original positive about america was a lie anyway.

Capitalism has nothing to do with prosperity of sciences.

In fact, many great sciences have happened at universities and through government funding.

  • In fact, these days medical science is king overseas, and its not the only one. Japanese are kicking our butt in a few areas.

Science also happened before capitalism too, not at any less a pace for its time.

  • walt, i'm sorry you're upset by people coming to America with hope. But that's what they do, and that hope gives way to a good life in this country through hard work and determination. Usually.

Of course Capitlism has helped breed the intellectual freedom and the freedom to experiment in this country. Away from the direct rule of a king of dictator, many great minds flourished , and especially Capitalism allowed the great industrialists that built the infrastructure of this country. .......

  • johnny

    You're myopic

With multiple citizenship's you can live in America but without the tax - Just like the International Corporations!

  • Galileo said it so well :

" I do not feel obliged to believe that the same god who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect, has intended us to forego their use."

  • Science is so cool, religion so uncool.

  • I absolutely love the Hubble podcasts. Only discovered them a few weeks ago, but you can blow a whole afternoon watching them.

  • How interesting!. Thank you for helping to lift the curtains of my ignorance! Bety :D

  • i love this kinda stuff keep em coming ★★★★★!

  • this guys voice makes me want to kill everyone on earth! fuck he is annoying! other than that great vid!

  • "this guys voice makes me want to kill everyone on earth! fuck he is annoying! other than that great vid!"

Seee... Science leads you to killing people :)

  • omg i love that vid on your channel favored it

  • Fascinating video. With the space telescopes getting the press, it's good to know that important work & discoveries are still being made here on Earth.

  • Very cool!!! ★★★★★

    Katalyzt

  • Wow, this guy makes it sound so simple. Optical interferrometry is so insanely complex.

  • Very interesting. It's so overwhelming to look at the stars and imagine how many there are, and how many planets orbit around them, and how much life should live on some of them.

What is that accent by the way? :P

  • German.

  • This is a great show very interesting.

  • That is not the driest place on earth, theres a place just inside the arctic circle where is hasn't rained or snowed in thousands of years

  • I am glad that so many people are interested in astronomy. They do the work and I get the results.
