  • There's no way you could speak normally without saying uhm

  • just to thnk about it, everyone has a stuttering problem, but instead of repeating parts of a word, they just say uhm.

  • Hey everyone, this Hannah from the video ssstutter! just wanted to let you all know that you can follow me on twitter @HannaahBear7 also I am currently involved in BCAPS and the CSA doing a self-help group for people. Thankkksss! :)

  • I used to have a bad stutter. I still have a mild one but it does get better for most people.

I hardly think about it anymore, it's that mild.

  • Great smile at 5:41

  • I have many years of suffering

  • shez pretty,il knock out every guy who would mak fun of u.juss leave it to me il do all the talkin...i used to stutter too

  • Cute and good girl :)

  • I’m a recent grad from VFS. Please check out my short film:

    /watch?v=25D2Hz_32os

  • @PAC0SANCHEZ No you are wrong your mind is incapable to understand that...you are a mind retarded =) not a keyboard stutter, which is very different I don't even know how did you made it to make a comment.

  • I was a member of the crew who put this documentary together, and I stutter as well. For her to have the courage to speak up in front of a camera, exposing herself like that was one of the most courageous acts I have ever seen, and she was a teenager. Hannah you are an inspiration. It was a pleasure to meet you and help tell your story.

  • she will get better hannah i was stuttering too and mine was worst than yours just try to sing all the time try to do it and u will see, now am ok...if u need any help just inbox me,u will be ok dont worry ok?

  • wow. the things we take advantage of... everyday speech.

  • Stutterbox lol

  • @tapdancegirl88 super retarded commenting =)

  • fake?

  • @IlIlIIIlllIIIlIIlllI you are so selfish and ignorant if you say this is fake. Have a little more respect for people, please

  • i promise i will heed.

  • Really well done, I hope more people see this and understand what we go through. It isn't easy at all but we get through it day by day despite the ignorance of most people. Thanks to the VFS for putting this together.

  • My cousin stuttered, but it was like frontal, just the first letter hung. Just like t-t-t-tap. He never stretched words like this. I do work with a guy that has a similar stutter to this, but he doesn't get nearly as hung up as this poor girl. Shes so beautiful and brave. I go to school with a guy that stutters repetitively. ie My name is... is... is Chris.

  • My cousin stuttered, but it was like frontal. He never stretched words like this. I do work with a guy that has a similar stutter to this, but he doesn't get nearly as hung up as this poor girl. Shes so beautiful and brave.

  • When you are as good-looking as Hannah, nothing can spoil the impression:)

The doc is nice, but what I don't understand is the desire to be on stage and struggle through words day by day... I don't mean people who stutter should keep silence, but why not choose something not so "public". It's like when you're fat, you don't go to ballet school...it's natural! Anyway, I wish all the best to Hannah:)

  • @NathalieGlarus it's natural???? You've no clue how it is to be a stutterer. When every stutterer would follow your advise, we had to life far away from civilization in the wilderness.

  • @NathalieGlarus You must have missed the part where at 5:15 - 5:43 where she says how cool it is to be on stage because she doesn't "get stuck" when she speaks.

And if I was taking care of a child (my own or someone else's) whose favorite form of exercise was dance, I certainly wouldn't discourage him or her from dancing as a way of attaining and/or keeping a healthy weight.

  • i had a slight stutter my first couple years of elementary.

it seemed to disappear with age.

    great doc!

  • I dont see nothing wrong with this girl. She speaks better than Obama and Bush...now those guys have a stuttering problem.

  • FFFFFFFAIL

  • BLAME IT ON THE A-AA-A-A-A ALCHOHOL BABY

  • @hagenrule CAUSE YOU'RE STUTTERING, OH OH OH OH OH E E E E E OH OH OH OHWOAH

  • @STRIKETOBURN1: dinmolle is right, a lot of people who stutter in normal conversation are completely fluent when acting or singing; I remember reading somewhere that it's because those activities use a different part of the brain than regular speech. So it really has nothing to do with confidence; I can be completely relaxed and still stutter like crazy.

  • i also stutter hard but i cant keep laughing. I understand those who laugh about it, even laugh at my own stuttering.

  • I kept wanting to finish her sentence but then I thought, if I was her I would get annoyed when people did that. Then at the end she said she asks that others be patient. I'll be that's what she meant.

  • people who stutter have orgasms the same way..????

  • @ramdav wow you are funny! go die in a hole

  • @ramdav never thought of that O.O

  • @ramdav probably, because most of them can sing normally, so then i guess coming is the same.

  • It's really hard for me to understand this because I look at this absolutely beautiful girl and think, "What would cause or trigger her to do this?" And then when she goes on stage, where the most confident people stutter, she speaks perfectly. Its incredibly perplexing to me.

  • @STRIKETOBURN1

Same here, she such a beautiful girl but what caused it? Shocks me

  • this made me tear up.

  • This was informative and inspiriing. I never knew stuttering could be so bad, and I've never met someone with this problem. I have a question, though. Do people with stuttering really type with a stutter as seen in the video?

  • @Zealotta No we don't, its just for the video

  • Hannah you are such a brave and lovely young lady! I also stutter, mine is a bit mild, we have some of the same speech patterns in stuttering. I have periods were i stutter maybe several times in a few months to stuttering all day long, its very fickle! I'm 28 now and my stutter is not as bad as it once was and I'm not as shy. I've been blessed with a great sense of humor and I don't want to sound conceited but I'm also very handsome. I really want to be an actor

  • that must be so frustraiting, it kills me to see people make fun of those who studder, it makes me so angry and i don't even have a studder but i can understand how it must feel because of other things in my life, i think it's amazing though how she can speak perfectly on stage, i am totally opposite

  • An absolutely amazingly brave, beautiful and clever girl. High praise for this film clip and bringing this to notice for others.

  • An absolutely amazingly brave, beautiful and clever girl. High praise for this film clip and bringing this to notice for others.

  • beautiful and brave girl.

  • i know someone who stutters but it's not this bad, wish her best of luck

  • Did she try to talk like singing? As talking within a melody. Sometimes it really helps and can start to build her a proper vocal coordination.

The other method is the one about the ear echo implant. That guy (worst stutter in the world) seems like miraculously cured.

I leave here the advice so others can try to follow / look into it.

    Best wishes Hannah!

  • that was awesome I wish I could I have been her friend I would have be the living crap out of those jerks for doing that to her

  • 0:17 ...........

  • If you have a stutter, the way to improve your speech is to practice talking to somebody every day (a fellow stutterer is even better because you can help each other), but never go back to the beginning of a word, or syllable, that you have stuttered on, i.e. do not go back to the start and try to say the word 'correctly' (you can see that this is what Hannah is doing throughout the video). I believe that it is this thought process which is part of what causes stuttering.

  • Hanna, I too am a person who stutters and I find you so brave and beautiful. You have the attitude that will benefit you throughout life. I noticed that you went through tough words without replacing them and that's being strong. You're doing so well and my heart is with you. Janet

  • Hannah is a good friend of mine. I met her a few years ago at a camp designed for people who stutter and she is a true inspiration. When we were at camp, she was so funny and outgoing and was so full of spunk and smiles. I miss her dearly and I know she is going to go far in life. Hannah is a constant reminder that to not let anything hold you back from doing what you are doing. Always follow your dreams and never back down. I love Hannah and I wish her all the best in the future. <3

  • let it shine, my best greeting to u hannah

  • I really like this movie and I wish the best for Hannah

  • I used singing as a method to completely cure my stuttering; I was born with it. Once I managed to sing songs without stuttering, I slowly tranferred that ralaxed mind set when talking.

From age 11 it took me 13 yrs to build a 'Mind to Vocal' connection. Ironically I'm more articulate than the average person now. Many people stutter much less when they're singing; it lowers anxiety & muscle tension I guess.

Please pass this message to others that stutter. It takes patience to cure.

    Good luck

  • @melodicdrift > That reminds me of something one of my old teachers told me about: He once had a class where there was a boy who stuttered. And when he was told to answer a question he stuttered, and some of the other students laughed at him. And then the teacher asked him to sing the answer instead and they had a mini conversation in Singing. And no one ever laughed at him in that class again.

  • thanks hana, never give up.

  • I never heard you stutter. What I heard was your good heart and your compassion and your kindness and your caring for others. That was the focus for me. You are who you are and you shine for it, my dear. Good luck on your life's future challenges. I have every confidence that you will conquer more than you know. And thank you for sharing your thoughts and extending a hand to help others. Applause to you!

  • Thanks for sharing your story. I think lots of people including me have things that make our lives a little difficult but we should as you say have patience and understanding. Hope your video spreads that message.

  • he used to say " allahumma ihlil elouqdata min lisani wa yessir lee aumri yafquho qaolee " .. which means " oh allah/God untie my tongue knot and ease up my way so they can understand me " ... i hope you a well life and an eased up untied tongue

  • don't be ashamed it makes you cuter and thats a plus , and to put your soul at ease ..you should realize that the world is filled with people with much more suffering ... all are born with their load of problems .. learn to bare it , accept it and live with it and thank your creator for it .. i wish you a happy and easy life .. did you know that prophet mousa/mouses had stutter when he confronted the pharoh he asked allah/god to ease his toungue by saying ... i'll continue in a second post -->

  • She's really pretty and gorgeous, and here stuttering is kind of cute :)

Btw, I stutter a bit more than that... It's really killing me.

  • this stutter can already treated by a device....Godd bless to all people who have neurological prob.

  • a very pretty lady she is, I guess only people who stutters understands how it feels

  • All you morons saying you feel bad for this girl should wake the hell up.

She has a disability and clearly manages to do whatever she likes and not let anything stop her from going on with the life SHE wants. What is there to be sorry about? That she stutters? She cleary does, and has suffered from it when growing up as told, but it's not stopping her from living her life at her own conditions RIGHT NOW.

  • @paxari Yes, how dare those people feel concern for her... Idiot.

They feel bad for her because they are compassionate people who can imagine how difficult it must be for her.

  • @packoftwenty If she has no issue with her disabilty then she doesnt need any pity. Idiot.

  • Wow, great story....well done.

  • Do stutterers want to get rid of the stutter or are they okay with it?

  • @CuddlyBadger i stutter a little bit

and i want to get rid of it

    it's killing me

  • She's uncannily gorgeous and beautiful.

  • i thought my stepdad was bad lol, he always says -uh -uh -uh- after every other word :P

  • Im just like her. Its pretty hard to talk. Maybe she is a little worse than me, but i know how it feels. I looked that only 1% of the US and Canada has it. Its pretty sad. I feel bad for her!!! Just remember to try not to think of that your so bad. Your Perfectly Normal. I feel so bad for her too!

  • I like videos like this. I wished it shed some light on therapies for stuttering. Although I am too fond of therapies, there are some good ones available. For instance, naturaltherapyforstuttering. -c-o-m is a good one. This girl has some spirit.

  • you are so strong :) I wish you just the best!

  • God bless her. She seems to take it very well, and I am personally VERY proud of her for sticking up for herself. She's a gorgeous girl, and she seems to have a wonderful personality.

  • Poor girl...

I am sure is a way to recover!

  • This was beautiful.

  • i studder sometimes to. its not like this though. ive never seen or heard someone jump back to the previous word (maybe i do it too not realizing.) its frustraiting, cause you dont want to be looked at as slow, which im not.

  • @CenterLane1977 Starting over is very common. You try to get a running start, like trying to jump over a stream.

  • I used to have minor to moderate stuttering while younger, I noticed that if i sing what i have to say melodically then it isn't so bad, I dont know why..

  • I think pity is the next worst thing than discrimination to give someone with a social disorder, because that's the thing that gets the one's who have learned to cope with it down.

Sorry, but that's why I didn't like this. The sad stories and music is what did it. "Treat them just like anyone else, no better no worse". A friend of mine with asperger's syndrome.

  • Maybe that's what the vid's trying to say. I rarely met a person who stutters so much and so when I started viewing this, I couldn't help feeling that this's not real. It took me a couple of times replaying (not easy at all) to take the way she says as hers. And this girl is the strong one. After all, even a normal person has to try sometimes to be normal.

  • @gusthelesswise I see what you are saying but I wish that all people would treat people with social disorders the same as every one, because of course they are normal people, but it doesn't always happen.

I'm am not saying that you should pity either but just that this film could also be looked at as one to help people understand and change their mind set.

  • Looks like this is caused by the brain misfiring in spots, causing spasms which behave differently (better or worse) when you are tense.

Anyway you are beautiful. When you are bullied, keep in mind that bullies & gossipers are seen by most as the lowest scum of the earth. They know it, which is exactly "why" they put others down. They have a need to grab at anything to make themselves feel less slimy & scummy, but are often so dumb they don't realize they're simply enhancing their slime.

  • this is sooo sad :(((

  • Congratulations Hanna! Very good job!

Keep working and don't let sttuter turn off your shine. Sttuters have a lot of things to speak and what don't let them to speak is not sttuter is prejudice.

    Best wishes from Braziliam sttuter.

  • Great job Hannah. Fantastic job on the production guys.

  • my friend studders way words

  • stutter myself not this bad (well it variates). so it is actually a tad hard 2 watch.

  • Hannah, I think you are awesome.

The world is your 'stage'. Thank you for being brave enough to never let anything get in your way.

    XO :)

  • joshuaraziel how would you like it if you had a stammer/stutter

It's ruining my life my stammer and people thinking its funny to take the mickie just makes it so much worse

  • thats not funny dumbass

  • Moron.

  • i'm sick of everyone that laughs about this. i have stuttered since forever and it's not funny believe me. this girl is amazing and she has given me and I hope so that many stutters can feel a little better after seeing this movie. people with no speechproblems cannot understand the pain and fear when u cannot express urself or say what u really mean. way to go hannah :D:D:D:D

  • 2:05 had a great laugh there

  • you go hannah - what a great person, the world is your oyster!!!!!

    great film and subject.

Who the hell was this 'guest' at school that made her feel so bad? man thats so mean. they should be ashamed of themselves - VERY.

  • It is so amazing how she could speak perfectly on stage! I would have thought her stuttering would've become worse on stage! This is a great story and very inspirational too. :D

  • I stutter too

    I totally understand the feeling

  • I feel so bad for this girl.

  • To always be engaged in phenomenology--I think it not a curse, but a panacea for decadence and the foundation for self-actualization. To be able to abandon herself to the aesthetics and rid herself of any sign of weakness, that is truly a sign of an overman. But to say that you feel "so bad" for this girl, are you not granting yourself more knowledge than you have? Paradoxically, could it not be you who is in the state of deterioration?

  • @Plaguetongue1 me too! Its so hard to hear her struggle so bad, with something most of us find so easy!

  • Hannah - you go girl - be successful. An inspirational young woman.

Best wishes from the UK. X

  • wow i think she needs to slow down, but let me tell u guys one thing the way you are now is how god made right now and i think almost every one on this website should now about this really brave girl. I ALMOST FORGOT ....... GO TO................ FreidTacoBread AKA FTB at youtube . com rate rant or sub thx for your reading this comment and peace guys oh and dont forget FTB at youtube XD

  • She is very brave making this video. I think she has overcome the fear of speaking which is common for people who stutter.

  • Really nice video! I stutter a lot, and I usually have to edit my stuttering out of my Youtube videos :P It ruins my life, and I HAIT talking to people I don't know. Luckily, my friends and family got used to it!

  • i felt really sad watching her....

i hope the medicine and technology get better and help people...... why do bad things happen to 95% of good people? just why?

  • I understand what it's like to have difficulty speaking, I do have a tendency to stutter if I'm trying to communicate a new thought. I also had to have speech therapy from kindergarden till 5th grade, because I could not pronounce "s" and "z" sounds properly. Everything came out as "th".

I still remember how hard it was to try and get my s and z's out correctly. Lisp and stutter don't bother me as much now, but somedays I just lose it and can't talk.

  • I find the notion that she could have won her prize "by pity" (see in a comment below) completely stupid.

One has pity for someone who fails something. Her story, on the opposite, is one of success. And what a success!

I actually have pity for the other girls who did not have a similar achievement and courage to present to the jury.

  • wow

  • Ata boy Youssef, you're my hero dude.

  • i am yousouf and i have a stutter i swere down. im not kammy im yousy

  • Incredibly well-done, human and sensitive work. My favorite singer, Ann Wilson of Heart, had a pronounced stutter in her youth, which singing helped. Her stuttering brought the gift of her voice to the world. Now Hannah's story is a gift to all of us. Like communicating with someone whose native tongue is other, the experience forces us to slow down and really listen. That's a gift in itself. Thank you Hannah.

  • amazing!! just like hannah said that is very cool, good bless you hannah , i hope you and all who sttuter will find the way to speak like everyone, i also sttuter very bad,...

  • I am so sure it is neurological and it is related with tourettes.

  • Comment removed

  • In high school one of my best friends was a stuttier but she refused to speak becauseof it. My responce is I have a lisp, James Earl Jones stuttered. How he would help himself was to memorize whatever he was going to say. He would do speaches and things like that.

  • amazing work.. keep it up!! its inspiring :D

  • That's awesome. Great job.

That's so cool how on stage she completely loses the stutter, how does that even work? Is it because the lines are memorized and she doesn't have to think about them to speak them? And does that mean that stuttering is connecting to the thinking process involved before speaking? Or can she normally speak on stage w/o having lines memorized? Cause if that's the case then...that's just amazing.

  • You inspire me, Hannah.

  • That's so inspiring.

  • Hannah I wish you the best with your stutter and love this video. As a person who also stutters It makes me feel not alone to see others out there that suffer form the problem as I do.

  • ya i stutter too but i hate to here other people stutter because i hate it that other people have to go through what i hav to go though cuz it realy sucks

  • yeah

  • @SstutteringSMRF I'm happy to see that there's still some ppl that can feel empathy and beeing human. Thank you for your comment, it gave me hope in mankind. Sorry for my english... I wish I could say more, but sadly... i cant ! Thanks ! And to that brave girl ! Good luck stay strong.. Stutter isnt a sign of weakness... I know what im talking about ! You're pretty and well talented ! ... Im out.

  • yes, you can find the rest of the vids by doing the following: look down this list of comments for "bcapshms".........just click on that user (Hannah's Parents) and you can see the rest of her vids. Especially watch Hannah's Monolog. I wish I could talk to her but her parents (understandably) must monitor , cause I've sent her a few emails but not heard back. No biggie. I have 2 sons and feel the same way. I'd be weary of internet communication too. Just wish we could get some updates.

  • ...I spose its easyier to go down hill than what it is to go up but the veiws much better from the top =D inspiring maby but sometimes people are put in situations in which make their circumstances challenging and for me hannah was inspirational.

  • damn,,,, i used to stutter also...

nothing workied until i was taken to a supernatural medicine clinic.

    also- learning another language helps

  • hmmmm r u being serious about that supernatural thing ? i stutter now and want to stop

  • yeah. im serious

I went to a clinic in Russia. Im not an expert in supernatural stuff, but i know that helped.

    Also... try learning another language.

  • I have a friend who stutters.

It's not horribly bad, but I feel horrible for him, cause people make fun of him.

    Great film.

  • would everyone overpraise this vid, if she wasn't that pretty?

  • she's so pretty and seems like a great person!

  • Obvious shw won the contest out of pity....

  • I disagree 100%........imagine just for a moment.....what if she was rude during the contest? Had a bad attitude? Was not nice to other contestants? You see her and have pitty.........(maybe).......I see her and have inspiration. I don't stutter, have no health problems, and I don't have 1/10th the determination this young lady has.

I don't pitty her a bit. I pitty you. Her story is beautiful, she is beautiful, and if you can't see that, it's you that deserves pitty. Really. Think about it.

  • Youre one naive (and pretty hypocritical) human being....

  • I'm not naive. I understand the whole pitty angle. Does it happen? Sure it happens. Happens every day. I was just saying that in this case, I don't believe that to be the case. I don't know if you have watched some of her other vids, but she's very talented. A true beauty contest is not skin deep alone....however, even if it were, I think she'd win. She's gorgeous. The hypocritical part I don't understand, but either way I'm not going to argue with you. You see what u want to see. No problem

  • spelled "pity."

  • You are very wrong about her winning out of pity. I was there are she won them over with her sincerity and passion for life. If they had given her a pity award it would not have been first runner-up

  • Well done, great film!! Congratulations!!

  • shes hot

  • aww man that terrible... not fair fucking world.....

  • good to see this, the way this girl handles her disability deeply impresses me

  • Someone get's it.........+1

  • Have a friend that has this problem but when he sings ,its not there.Dont know why maybe its the rhythm that helps

  • Wow, that was hard to watch. But I'm glad I did...I've known a few people who stutter, so it's fairly common.

  • Fascinating subject. Terrific film. Bravo.

  • i am developing a studder and it is infact scary because i cant say what i want when i want to and it hurts watching this because im going to end up like this way in a a year or two :'(

  • well done hannah

  • Is she more fluent, since this film was made two years ago?.

  • yes, much more fluent as she grows in confidence into adulthood. It is her will to solve it that is pushing her forward

  • Aw thats so cool that hes talks about it,and thats cute as hell anyway :o

  • she talked perfectly like i woundent of guessed that she stutterd at sompoint during the vid

  • Great film. I have a friend as well that stutters.

  • This girl reminds me of someone on a documentary I saw about weed on Showtime.

As soon as she smoked she was able to talk normally. Hopefully living in Vancouver gives this girl the chance to see if it works for her as well. It is comforting to see she has a loving family.

  • Cynic - she is doing just fine without that. Her progress in the last two years since the film was made is entirely her own strength and courage to say "I can do better and I will". Personal responsibility is an amazing quality to accept

  • That's good to hear. Physical dependance is not a good thing to live with even if it is something that mild.

I can honeslty say I remember a point in my life where I had trouble speaking. Almost like a dream I remember where I could not speak or seem to breathe at all. It was as if at that moment I could have stopped speaking fluently forever.

I wish I could explain it better.

  • I really wish I could watch the whole thing, but its too much work

I lol'd at some parts though, good story though.

  • Fantastic, just what the stuttering community needs, a good short film about stuttering/ stammering.

  • Young Lady, you define the very definition of "beautiful". This word to me is overused. A beautiful woman is someone who has it all,,inside and out.

If I ever had the chance to meet you, I would embrace every second of being in your company because it would truly be a blessing. Hannah, think of life like a snowball. (cause it is) Once you get rolling, just keep rolling girl, LET others stick to you , because if they do stick,,,then they understand beauty, if they don't....let them melt away.

  • Thank you so much. Wow! I have had a really rough week. You have made my day. Thanks again.

  • I meant every word. I said what I said not out of some sort of "pity party" , but out of being truly touched thru your videos. Read thru some of these comments posted...like "poor girl"......lol, that's hilarious to me. THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. (and likely never will) That's what's sad about it if you ask me. On the other hand, to be fair, I have not read one "bad" comment per se ......which gives me hope for a future of humanity in general. I sent an email, hope you got it. Be good.

  • What a great message concretefire!! Better than all the other comments I have read so far!

  • BAGS!!!!

  • this is a fantastic film!

  • wonderfull

  • Dear Hannah

    great video

    Be strong hannah !!

    smir

    poland

  • Dear Hannah,

Stuttering doesn't make you less of a human.

You are a very beautiful girl; I would date you if you were older and went to my school. keep on working hard and achieving your dreams. My dream is to be a film director and making something as great as this.

    your friend,

    Spewaysealat

  • I stutter aswell. Not as much as this, but it's really irritating and embarassing sometimes. Go Hannah ;)

  • wow.

hannah is very brave and i think she's very beautiful (:

    Be strong hannah !!

    Greets from Germany (:
