Rollins has been good friends with Nick Cave for a long time. As you no doubt know, Cave was a big time drug user, BIG TIME. Also, someone previously mentioned Ian doing the Pailhead project with Al Jourgenson.

Perhaps these interviews you speak of are from the Minor Threat and SOA era in the lives of Hank and Ian? They seem pretty chilled out these days.

I wonder why Henry didn't interview him? I love Henry and agree with him on most things but he and Ian MacKay are quite intolerant of people who choose to put their choice of chemicals in their body. It is Shane's life and if he chooses to be drunk all the time than let him and also respect his choice to do so. I'm sure Henry got annoyed with people giving him shit for not drinking and doing drugs so why turn around and give the same treatment to those who chose to do so.

@Flipper79able I wouldn't read too far into this, mate. Rollins may have been too busy on the day. There are few other bands/artists who did interviews for the show without Hank asking the questions. Both himself and Ian are pretty tolerant of all walks of life, as far as I gather.

he was born in england to Irish parents, and then moved back and forth between england and ireland during his early, formative years. and then i believe that the bulk of the pogues' songwriting and recording was done in London... so that might be why his accent sounds different.

What do we know about Shakespeare? Nothing. Doesn't stop the guy from having an incalculable influence on the English language. All of that hard living is part of what made Shane who he is, and that's what made his art what it is. Now, having said that, he's definitely not in the greatest of shape here and is hard to understand :P!

Shane is an extremely intelligent man and one of the last living punks that stayed true to the cause, but you can't pretend that he never killed any brain cells with the amount he drinks. It is a shame but his, and The Pogues work will be remembered forever. He did what he intended to do which was inject Irish folk music into popular music, and he accomplished that, and I admire him for that reason.
