Even though the US didn't win, This was one of my favorite years for gymnastics. I was glad Romania won. Also In 2004. That's usually the case when I watch the Olympics.
As much of a Simona fan as I am, I have to say that was a pretty crappy bars routine. She was off on all her handstands. You would think they could do something to fix that in the gym. There's no reason the Romanians should be so . . . not-good on bars!
Um... Gutsu REPLACED Roza Galieva for the AA finals in 1992. She actually didn't qualify for the AA originally because she fell on beam in team optionals, but they pulled out Galieva to let her win and she won the gold.
So yeah, hate to break it to you but Gutsu was a replacement in every sense of that word.
I hate the way comments come across on here! ARGH! What I should have said was that Galieva was NOT injured, which means that it was a total fucking sham in 92. Galieva earned the spot in the AA final and should have been able to keep it.
I assumed everyone that reads these comments knows about the "injury" Galieva "had" after Team. It was a LIE!

"If the US can't do It, Hopefully Romania will."

I don't think they counted handstands at this time. I think that starts after this Olympics. I may be wrong though,

I can't BELIEVE they said that bit about Gutsu being a "replacement" in 1992. That's such a load of horseshit, and everyone knows it.
That was a great bar set for Zamo. She willed that landing.
