  • great version !

  • Eddie was sober for this show, I guarantee it. His guitar work and singing is spot on. He's just tearing up the guitar from 3:00 to the close.

  • Dave sounds horrible! Wolfie ain't a pimple on Mikey's behind and Eddie needs to have a few burgers!

Bring back Sam and Mike, please!

  • I think Wolfie did a great job, so young to be on such a big stage with a notorious act. Good for him.

  • It was cool My son and me had a Blast Last time I saw then was 1980

  • It was cool My son had a Blast

  • VAN HALEN RULES !!

  • wolfgang is so off when he sings. and where's the bass? come back Mikey!!

  • Miss Mike, but sure glad to see Dave back!

  • What camera you using? Real nice.

  • david lee roth is like the uncle i wish i had

  • send me to the 70s and 80s lol

  • songs don't seem slower, but they are detuned enormously.

I'd never would have imagined that I'd see the day that seeing Eddie sing was actually better than Dave. Dave cannot hit a high note and that is sad.

The whole band (minus vocals) looks tight here, and even Wolfie looks like he can jam, but as a lifelong Van Halen fan, this is nothing more than a puppet show for money.

  • They tune to E flat DUDE!

  • I love Micheal Anthony, he was a big part of Van Halen. But here are the facts. Eddie wrote all of the bass lines on all the Van Halen albums. Micheal did not. Eddie tried to get Micheal prepared with all the songs before a big tour. Micheal chose to practice at the very last second. Don't get me wrong. His backup vocals and harmonies were phenomenal. But his participation was shitty. Many people don't understand that . Wolfie deserves to be in Van Halen.

  • Wolfie's a good fit with the band...plus he may help keep Eddie off the sauce. Mikey had those famous backing vocals, but let him go make bubble gum rock with sammy now. The REAL VH is back!

  • I think you might have it wrong. Michael Anthony didn't do the tour because David Lee Roth is a complete jackass and they don't get along. It has nothing to do with Anthony's talent as a musician. On album the original Van Halen can't be beat. It's only when you see them live that you realize what a pompous ass Roth is. If I was Michael Anthony I don't think I could have tour'd with that clown either.

  • @Phil5150rocker

Michael Anthony, an accomplished player in his own right, wrote his own bass parts.

Unless you can cite something that proves otherwise, slandering his good name to to make Ed's compromise of his hack kid holding a bass(not playing) seem like a good idea is pathetic.

As far as I know, the only bass parts Ed ever played were on Sammy's solo album.

As to when he decided to practice, how the fuck would you know?

    Were you there?

    I'm thinking no...

  • give me a break ....wolfie kicks ass......leave mikey is with chickenfoot .....leave him .......wolfie adds some new kazazzzz

  • wheres the bass ?? we need mikey back pleeze...

  • who gives a shit about the cable or pick?

  • ANYBODY THAT KNOWS ABOUT ALL OF THE EVH PRODUCTS READ THIS: I am a huge fan of eddie and of all of his product guitars I one myself but at 1:18 you can tell the picks that are on his mic stand are not the EVH picks that was said to be used on tour. Also, on half of the tour I saw eddie using these striped cables, not the EVH ones?

  • It is copies of his studio-gear you can buy at his website, he uses custom-picks for every tour (alot of big rockbands does this) and he uses a striped cable so he and the other bandmembers can see it on stage and won't step on it :)

  • He used Herco Flex 50 on that tour - at least that's what I read from the few concert reports.

  • Eddie kind of looks like Arnold Schwartzenegger. (SP?)

  • stop hatin on Dave, the dude is in his 50s ,hes been doin this for 30+yrs ,maybe he juust havin fun now, after all the bad blood amoung them,I think he deserves to.

  • yeah mikey was the best bassist for this group

  • I think Roths problem is-- hes still trying 2 sing like he did when he played Vegas all the time, like showtunes and shit, hes singin alot different than he did when he was with Vh and when he has his bands b4 the whole Vegas thing. I did see them in Chicago on this tour- and Dave sounded Great!!!

  • Roth's voice went down the drain that is Roth...............right?

  • Cmon da guy is in his 50s now

  • many of you might think i'm crazy, but i just bought a Traynor Ycs 50 watt custom special and the distorted channel can get the VH plexi sound 95% on the money without any preamp. My fucking Marshall DSL can't even do that. WTF! Anyhow, i highly recommend this amp. it goes for about $750 and has a true class A 15 watt switchable channel for Brit tones as well. i also use a '62 reissue strat with single coils too. only loss is the tapped harmonics don't ring out quite true, but hey...

  • your crazy lol jkjk

  • @ZeropointZero70

Your marshall DSL wobn't do it, because it's not a good amp.

Try a Plexi, on full, with a Variac, with a clean boost in front.

Then ask Ed for his nervous system, cause without it, you're gonna get anywhere close to his tone.

It's in his fingers, not his gear... Like everyone

  • @socratescafe Is it in his pee pee?

  • Nice job with the camera.Great audio too...

  • CAN SOme1 PLEASE tell me what guitar EVH is using in this song? I am considering buying a musicman Axis super sport by the way

  • The best you can buy Ernie Ball Music Man Axis.

I bought one on Ebay,Tobacco Burst 1500,- Euro from Germany new and it's heaven.

  • That looks like one of the Peavey or Musicman "Wolfgang" guitars to me. Doesn't matter what you play though. I think Eddie sounds best with one of the Fender Strat types. He sounds good no matter. It's all in the hands and the mind.

  • He is using the EVH Fender Wolfgang

  • you guys are all on crack. i went to two of van halens shows with dave and they sounded great. yeah they arent the van halen of old but they still know how to rock an arena hard!

  • what is everybody talking about. Its musically solid. Although, without Anthony, theres no energy!

  • Yeah they definately miss Michael's backing harmonies!

  • It's a shame that some bands can't lay down and accept their age.

Even though they are old and somewhat used up what they offer is far superior to anything out this decade.

Someone needs to do something about the Stones.

A tribute to Heroine and formaldehyde they.

  • also - I loved Van Halen with DLR and also with Sammy. Some great music was played. But what I've learned is that Sammy was the true musician and that DLR is a scum bag. I'm not happy that the VH brothers kicked Mike out. I guess I have memories and albums to remember - the way it used to be - back in the day!!!

  • as a die hard van halen follower - i must say that this is sad to see them sound this bad!!! dave can;t sing worth a s**t! Eddie can still play and Alex sounds sluggish. fat boy is a musician and plays all the parts - but he lacks that something that mike brought to the band. also the background vocals suck!!! I saw most of the videos and just can;t believe how bad they sound. seriously - it's a joke and they're making money off this. Sad Sad Sad......

Have you all seen the NEW JOURNEY!! WOW!!

  • Is it me or is the tempo slowed down on every friggin song???....maybe so Davey boy can hang in there. Background vocals = yuck - no Mikey. Such a shame. I will be going to see Sam & Mike on 7/20.

  • well have fun asshole

  • lol.......

  • I like guys with a good attitude on youtube peace man

  • happy holidays.........

  • No, actually the songs aren't slowed down, they ar e playing them at the same tempo as the recordings, but you might think so because they usually speed the songs UP live, but apparently they haven't on this tour. :)

  • wow journey you douche bag van halen smokes journey any day of the week honestly. The band replaced the lead with a fucking tribute band lead singer that is bullshit sure hes good hes also about 12 though. Van Halen sounds insane on this tour better than journey ever has so i suggest yoo stop believing.

  • Well put.

  • thanks man..

  • I lol'd at your comment because Van Halen replaced their faithful and skilled bass player with a kid.

  • no shit shirlock its his friken son!

  • The first 10 sec of this footage is better than the whole VH3 lol

  • What these guys look good. Sound good. Theyre in their 50s. Eddie looks better than he did 10 years ago in Australia. Come back guys. Ed do the boy a favour and lock him in the gym.

  • Meth sucks look at these guys

  • "sigh" The band just fell apart. I miss Mikey!

  • You must have been right behind the VH Camera Man.

  • pssst... *he was the VH camera man* ;)

  • Great one-saw them in San Diego too-lovin' it! Thanks for the upload!

  • Chunky? What sounds chunky? Chung-king....choking... Junk-iee. Chunky chunky chunky. Chucking chucky. Like that?

Glad to see Dave & Ed jamming again. They are both in their element and looking happy. You can't tell if Alex is digging this or not...is that Barbara Streisand back there?

  • all dave needs is the paycheque, that's why he's happy cos he's not much without the van halen family.nobody's perfect i guess

  • DLR has never been married and (to our knowledge) has no kids, so I have to think that he's very well off financially. Can't imagine he'd need the money.

  • how does he get that chunky sound right at the beginning?

  • Chunky? Are you talking about the palm muting during the opening riff?

  • they postponed a bunch of =VH= shows because Ed has something going on with him. Some people have said that his cancer has showed up again. Our prayers are with you Eddie.

  • Wolfie could use a case of slim fast.....I guess when Dad is Eddie Van Halen and he let's you play with the band, chicks don't care if you're fat and look like you need a bath.

  • your mom looks like wolfie,

  • My mom says I look like Wolfie

  • lucky!!!

  • Only from far away like on stage would you confuse us

  • he's using light/medium distortion with slight flange that he's controlling with a foot peddle

  • what kind of effects is he using at the beginning?

  • Actually, the intro to "Beautiful Girls" is done dry, no major effects. Not sure if Ed is using some type of reverb, but that might be it. And to the poster above, Ed does not use a distortion pedal of any type. All of that overdrive/distortion is coming from the 5150 III's. It sounds like he starts off on Channel 2 and switches to Channel 3 for the solo.

  • when Im 53 years old I'd love to be in Roths shape!

  • Great video. Concert was kinking in New Orleans Feb 8th, 2008. Go see them if you have not yet.

  • Beatiful girls was an amazing song.. The older version I mean. I love eddie's guitar solos on the song. That songs definately all about th instruments...kick ass song!!!

  • I saw them in 1980, when I was 13. I'm now 41 and got kids older than, Wolfie. I think they kicked ass then, and even thougth they are older and not as resilient, they seem to be having fun. It didn't sound that bad to me.

  • Yeah, I'm 45.. Grew up on the Classic Rock. Van halen was amazing, with great potential. I guess when you hear them at there best there is no compromising. I listen to their old stuff allthe time..Love it!!!!

  • u've got some f***ed up idea of what Van Halen is in 2007-08. I went to the concert in Washington DC, and it was the BEST CONCERT IVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

  • Can't blame em for wanting to do the songs pre Sammy, but it ain't the same. Looks like a great time though.

  • I wonder what kind of allowance Wolfie gets for playing and if he has to be in bed at a certain hour every night like a good boy. And no any kid can't just practice bass for a year and do this like the one dude said in his comment.

  • What happened to Ed's sound? Damn, that used to be the BADDEST sound on earth.

  • yeah!!!!with you on that one.

  • First off, if you dont think this tour sounds better than old VH, pull up some old stuff live, it is sloppy as hell. Dave always muffs words, and Wolfie plays that bass like hes been doin it forever, its badass...

  • Hahahahahahahaahahahahahaha....what are you 10? lolololololololol...you know nothin about rock.. are you on 714 lemons?? hey, can you get me some???

  • Funnest time I've had at a concert in years...

  • same here man! AMEN TO VH!!

  • ya know what dave always fucked up BUT WHO CARES DLR IS THE ONLY VAN HALEN FRONTMAN NONE COMPARE

  • Damn right, Sidiousith. Diamond Dave IS THE MAN!

  • Um, no. I'm pretty sure Wolfie is singing the high backup parts.

Dave's just gotten older is all. Wolfie was amazing, though.

  • its because he can amazingly replace Michael Anthony you pothead. and the fact that he is Ed's son has gotta make him good.

  • he was touched by an angel ...or by uncle al

  • Ed today can't seem to get that rich heavy sound that he had in his live shows in the late 70's. There is NO comparision to the band's unreleased videos I posted on my page of the late 70's with Van Halen's sound today! They still got it though.

  • yeah, thats just because of the different guitars and the amps, im not sure but im pretty sure hes using the 5150 III amps(hes not actually using the ones on stage) but he used to use a marshall, which he used for every album except vh 3 i think. And he also use to have the original frankie, and now he uses a wolfy...But i do agree i wish he would at least use replicas or the original so it sounded like the "real" vh sound. And yes, they have still got it

  • dave looks like john schneider

  • ouch.

  • Dave can't sing this song anymore. However if Mike was with them it would have made up for the crappy singing. Eddie is trying to do the high part too which sounds bad.

Sad because this is one of my all-time favorite Van Halen tunes.

  • Yea Dave struggled with this song, but he hadn't sang it live in a long time and he's older, hard to hit the higher notes.

  • Mike would have made this great. but its still unreal.

  • Damn that was awsome!

  • Forget about Led Zeppelin, these are the guys that are rocking the world right now with the tour of the century !

  • DOUBLE THAT FOR ME, THIS IS THE BAND, AS TIME WILL TELL. I would rather see them agian than see Led Zeppelin. They had us at the edge of our seat, with everything they played. There was no idle time. They Van Halen was HOT! Did not have time for drink. Enjoyed the concert sober!

  • im seein them on december 16th in san jose im soooooooo stoked

  • Simple very good, band sounds great

  • Anybody notice Eddie isn't smoking )or drinking) any more? He's high on life! Good for him, man!! Gotta love it.

  • He puffed at the 2 chicago shows. Sad, sad, sad.

  • Man, that sucks! I have been watching tons of clips of this tour, and I don't see the cigs stuck in his guitar's tuning keys... well, maybe he cut way back!

  • Yeah, during the drum solo I imagine he's smoking as many as he can.Usually comes out with a smoke in between the strings during Unchained.

Seen it in Cleveland and quite a few youtube clips.

  • Nice shots of Eddie and Dave! Looks like they are having fun on stage.

  • i swear those backing vocals are processed to sound at a higher pitch the one part sounded really fake and weird....but they still kick asssssss

  • Being a roadie myself, I know how you can get sucked into thinking it's processed. It's the level mix of the foldback speakers. As you can see their not on stage (accept for Ed's) and judging from the person who filmed this, he's centre of stage and that's Daves mix, and he probably wanted more of Wolfie's vocals in his mix. Not forgeting sound changing from arena to arena. You usually get some vocals out of sinc (delay!) too and that happens alot, it's a singers worse nightmare!

  • thanks for the video. i'm going to see them tonight in Seattle. i'm in for a good show. i seen them in 1982 at the cow palace in san fransisco, on the diver down tour and dave was drunk. they sound great.

  • Wow! Best quality VH Video on YOutube! Outstanding as Dave would say!! Rock on..

  • dave seems like hes towned down on stage, great song tho. thnx for the upload!!
