  • Did you find the actual reason and fixed the VFR?

  • Mine only does it on cold starts. After warming up its fine so I'm guessing it has to deal with oil being thick still and needing to warm up. Its alright man, VFR engines are solid, most likely will be the clutch if there is a problem.

  • @braceyoself777 so does mine but I have never worried about it

  • thats very normal in VFR´s and CB series. mine does that too, its the clutch spring that gets "soft" with age... mechanicly speaking theres nothing to worry about. its just noise lolol =)

  • Your problem is in the cluth side, sitting on the bike on right side of engine.Remove that cover and you should be able to diagnose the problem.Sounds like the clutch basket bearing has collapsed or loose,or worn out plates. Just look that side,it will definately be in the clutch side, especially if you are not hearing any noises once clutch is engaged.

  • same noise on mine 1991, it's ok!

  • It would be about the only 'unwanted noise' you'll hear from a VFR donk.. pretty much bullet proof these machines !

  • mine thoes olso the same thing, sometimes its quiet and not making a noise but sometimes it anoooyes me :D. Every garage i ask says its no problem ;) they all inspected it first before comming to that conclusion :). The engine of a vfr will work for ever they all said, you have to crush it before it will go dead ;) just give it fresh oil and a hug once in a while.

  • On street bike clutches there are cushions on the basket to reduce noise and vibration;on older bikes and even new there is a little play in them.Like everyone else said it is normal.

  • yeah like all of these people are saying, mine does the same noise

  • I have a 91 vfr and it makes the same noise, it has as long as i can remember, its a pain, but seems to cause no problems.

  • its the clutch release bearing

  • try balancing your carbs.if they are out, this can cause clutch rattle.always a good idea if you've had the carbs stripped anyway.

  • it is in fact clutch rattle. replace the bearing before it wears something else out then you have metal circulating thru your engine !

  • Mine did the same for a year or so with no ill effects.

  • yes..it`s the needle bearing from the clutch.

you can drive on it without problems and the noise is the same like an ducati :-)

  • Its clutch rattle. Mine does the same.
