  • you are so hilarious!!! XD so im subbing, that was so enjoyable and i just loved it :) and there were some great questions. oh yeah btw i love steampunk too ^^ there is already a lot of steampunk in the games, but if they kept the "swords only" thing and just made it feel a bit like steampunk i guess it would be ok. btw what is RPG? i thought it meant Role Play game, but does it?

  • There's a steam-powered train in Spirit Tracks if that counts as a steam something. :D

  • You know Jason, Zelda could take a page out of Final Fantasy and give Link sort of a steam punk gunblade.

  • Wow! You mentioned Fullmetal Alchemist AND Okami! You're awesome, Jason.

  • @NintendoMasterG wow. i was litterally going to say that exact same thing

  • Yay! Full Metal Alchemist! :D

  • LOL AT THE BEGINNING

  • There are more than 1 Link, but just 1 Ganon. HE must go insane when he sees the color green.

  • Wait...The people down under the world who are supposed to be evil are good, while the people above the clouds are really evil? I think they Jason just explained the plot line of Disgaea.

  • From 0:35 to 1:19 he just explained my life's dream

  • Nice song at the end. I always loved that overworld theme :)

  • well, steam boats and steam trains count as "Steam anything"

  • As much as you want Steampunk Zelda I hope one of these days it will truely happen.

Because i would love a Gun as well :)

I think they don't want to make a game like that yet is because they seem to want their Zelda games to have a impact on all gamer ages.

  • You rock Jason!

Now, who is this Coldy I hear about?

  • WHAT! If you were steam punk!???!?!??!!! How's that for a plot twist!

  • how would link get back up to sky loft

  • where did the name link come form?

  • @15chimchar

It's a reference to two things:

-The link between Link and the character where they are supposed to be one and the same, and

-The link to Miyamoto's childhood of playing in forests and caves that brought about the first game's gameplay

  • Something just hit me...(SOME MAY SEE THIS AS A SPOILER, JUST A WARNING. THIS IS ALSO CRAZILY FAR-FETCHED)

What it Skyloft is the moon from Majora's Mask? The inside of the moon wasn't rocky and deserted when you go inside it at the end, after all. That would also work in someone's idea of Majora being the villain of the game. A big issue though, is that in the trailer Link jumps off of the edge. There are prolly other contradictions, but I didn't play LoZ:MM enough to know them.

  • thanks for the answer, I thought of kinda the same thing but wanted to know what you thought

  • How do you think Vaati fits into all this? Personally I think the games with Vaati in took place pre-OoT, and that Vaati is the past essence of Ganon, and is a corrupted leader of an "ancient tribe." In ALttP Aganhim (sp) is seen wearing the Eye of an "ancient tribe" on his robe, and Ganon also claims that Aganhim is his alter-ego. Could these tribes be one in the same? How do you think this will tie into Skyward Sword?

  • MM had fierce deity

  • They do have a game for mario whwere you play as the princess

  • no i have to look jason but only for zelda cody please come back

  • I have a question for you: Besides the swordplay mechanic, which new feature Skyward Sword do you think will be the most revolutionary?

  • I have a question for you: Besides the swordplay mechanic, which new feature Skyward Sword do you think will be the most revolutionary?

  • hmmm...Cannons are basically big guns, and we've seen that before...

  • nah i think we are going to fight his father or somthing

  • @firemage928 His father was most likely Hyrulian.(sp?) Of course that depends on Ganondorfs age.

  • @78Daleth or maybe vatti? or zant? who knows......

  • @firemage928 Vatti is a possibility but I doubt Zant would be born yet iirc.

  • they did it's call link's crossbow training

  • Well, since mostly every Link has been a different boy in Hyrule that inherits the Triforce of Courage I thought it worked the same way for Ganon. There are 3 types of elves (Forest/Gerudo/Hylian) for each of the 3 goddesses (Earth Fire Wind) and they keep reincarnating endlessly...

There can never be guns, its the Sword of Evil's Bane! Always has been....only light arrows were used as a kindof substitute to help with the stabbiness.

  • wut?

  • It had a steam boat

  • Will you ever play a game where you play as Zelda, and rescue link?

  • @1337Weavile gannondorf is way to dumb to think like that :P

  • @1337Weavile That would be hysterical actually... Ganon decides it is too much to capture the princess and try and stave off Link each time... so instead he captures Link but Zelda then goes off and collects the hero gear then sneaks into Ganon's lair and frees Link, then gives link all the gear and Link beats Ganon.

Ganon then never repeats the endeaver because holding Link captive was far more difficult then holding Zelda captive.

I think that would make a great plot for a one game change.

  • why wouldnt LoZ have guns if it already has cannons and bombs? guns are sure to come next, WE HAVE A FRACKING TRAIN NOW FOR MIYAMOTO'S SAKE!!! we are gonna get some sort of gun sooner or later :P

  • @TheKayasto I hope so. There shouldn't be nine mils or machine guns, but a 'slug-shooter' type musket would fit pretty well, heck they could even make it where you could see the ark of the musket ball. Wouldn't be much different from a bow gameplay wise. But if I was to design a steampunk Zelda, I'd probably go for an auto-crossbow type weapon rather than a true gun.

  • @213shadesofgrey sounds good to me :D hell, a steam punk zelda game would be pretty kick ass if you ask me, i wouldnt mind nintendo making one, it would obviously take place pretty far down the line of the story, possibly farther than ST

  • Back From the FUTURE!

  • dude a steampunk zelda would be amazing and just a couple stupid guns shouldn't stop it. great whistling skills at the end too.

  • are there cody vs Jason factions? cause to me, you both are the same :P. In fact, you two even look similar to me.

but question: do you think skyward sword is going to have any cameos to other games in nintendo? I wish they would bring those back.

  • Why do you think that Malladus from spirit tracks eventually took on such a Ganon like appearance and had such a generic final boss battle? Is this supporting your timeless essence of evil theory you mentioned earlier or just Nintendo being lazy and not wanting to change?

  • didnt they make Zelda an RPG in AoL. You have to gain experience to add more lvls to your magic and health.

  • I can see a steampunk gun working as sort of a replacement for the bow.

  • You're so much more alive than that other guy. Uh, what was his name? =P

  • For some reason since SS is before OoT, I think since Hyrule is ruled by dark forces, that there will be three main areas to conquer and release each goddess from a barrier of somesort. I think it will work kind of like the Legend of Hyrule cutscene in OoT. Once you free a goddess, a part of Hyrule's life laws will be renewed. Thats my theory on how Hyrule is gonna work in Skyward Sword. And then there will be other areas afterward to conquer, but not too many.

  • wat...?

  • hey if u could make a zelda game what would the name be and is ganon going to be the final boss or will there be a boss that u have to unlock [like a hiddened place in the game that will be hard to get to]or will it like go on forever and never end

  • There is no timeline.

A few games like OOT and MM are connected but not all games are connected to eachother.

  • @kvj1989 I wish you were right after the confusion that it produces to think of a timeline, but Nintendo confirmed there is one and that they have the true one, but no one can ever see it other than a few people (the producers) ... yet.

  • @Duorsa They are just saying that to keep people interrested.

  • @kvj1989 ... perhaps. Even though they are the creators, they are too busy and caught up to even think of one in the early stages of the franchise and the odds are against them truthfully making one, but I don't think Nintendo lies.

  • @Duorsa Maybe i don't know.

If there really is a timeline which i doubt than i don't think they would ever tell us.

Well maybe when the zelda franchise stops.

  • Duuuude Jason when you said that streampunk idea I was like HOLY MATRIMONY but then you thereafter mentioned the problems of ...guns... NOOOoooo

    Great mailbag :)

  • 2 person bed with no other to spend

  • Jason's moustache > Cody's beard (unless i've been imagining that Cody has a beard...)

  • wait, ganon couldnt have evil when he was born, he was a good guy at first.

    well, mostly good.

he wasnt power-thirsty until after about a year or two of serving the king.

  • My theory about the ganon in ss is that there is born a male gerudo once a 100 years, so if ss is 100 years before oot then cant it be the male gerudo born before ganondorf?

  • If Ive never seen okami shame on me! If i havnt played okami shame on Nintendo for noit releasing it in my country!

  • how can someone ask about Ganon being somewhere before he's born, doesn't the same concept apply to Zelda and Link as well, just they are reborn or something along those concepts, reincarnations etc. etc,

  • your esscense of evil idea is good, but it would make me feel guilty i've had Ganon(dorf) arrested, killed etc

  • nintendo could make a kinda counterpart of zelda where link is in the steampunk futurish world with guns that would be cool

  • if ganon ever appears in SS, i would like to se him as a teenager

  • it has cannons on the ships on Phantom Hourglass and on the train in Spirit Tracks

they're basicly just realy big guns right?

  • ive got okami

  • The last question made me get chills.

  • VERY tuneful whistling there Jason ;)

  • 2:52 All along?!

  • Ugh, Jason, please look up a tad more, you're not looking into the camera properly, and I can't get eye contact X(

  • This is the second mailbag I've been featured in this week (yay) and the second one where my name was pronounced incorrectly (dang). Beau is a French name yes, but it's pronounced Bo, so it' sounds like NintenBo (yes, it's a pun with my name in). Is Cody gonna jump in here and say he would have pronounced it correctly haha. Thanks for using my questions Jason, you're even more awesome than before for using my questions. Keep up the great work!

  • @NintenBeau Bahaha, I KNEW all that French training during choir meant SOMETHING! I guess it just doesn't mean I can pronounce crazy French words yet. Seriously why are there so many silent letters in French, it's CRAZY!

  • @ZeldaUniverseTV Yeah the 'e', 'a' and 'u' are silent and the 'o' is invisible. Loads of people get it wrong, but more people have been getting it right recently so I forget some still get it wrong. The Adult Link thing was about him being used in a lot of series. WW, PH and ST are kind of one series, so Toon Link being in all them means there's 1 Toon Link. I forgot about Minish and 4 Swords, are they the same Link? Can't remember. Well, anyway thanks again ZU!

  • Damn it... Your ganon theory made sense xD

  • you are a regular Al Jolson

  • Jason, with that intro, I've finally realized, YOU'RE A WEIRDO :D but I LIKE thank ^_^

But here's a question, I don't know why I listened to him but on Halloween a 4th grader my cousin knows said something about them creating something called "a link to the future". Link gets a gun, epona is a motorcycle, and zelda looks like an alien princess of some sort....

Jason, would YOU enjoy something like that?

  • ANSWERING THE QUESTION "What if Zelda was more like a modern RPG?"

I got two answers for you:

    Demon's Souls(PS3 exclusive)

    Dark Souls(Spiritual sequel release fall 2011 360 and PS3)

Pretty much. You looking for The Legend of Zelda done a little differently you have found it.

    Now flock to it's epicness.

  • No no no no no no no

Ocarina of Time Link was adult badass Link for sure...

Link from TP was like 15-16-17 year old mini weakling Link almost adult not as cool Link!

  • if the zelda series ever became a first person shooter game, i would probably shoot myself with my invisible gun/wii remote.

  • YA CHUGGAACONROY SHOUT OUT

  • Twilight Princess wasn't the only (or the first) Zelda game where the end battle against Ganon started with "monsters" and ended with you fighting Ganondorf as a man. The Wind Waker did the same thing. Also, you know Zelda II was basically an RPG, right? I would love to see a Zelda RPG (Heck, even Mario gets RPGs), but I don't want Zelda (the main series) to become an RPG series.

  • @SalvableRuin Yeah, everyone's telling me Zelda II is an RPG - I'm aware (and that was actually a part of the guy's question that I didn't read), but I consider Zelda II almost irrelevant at this point since his question was really asking about "modern" Zelda games. I don't think a modern Zelda RPG would be like Zelda II was, anyway.

  • @ZeldaUniverseTV No, a modern Zelda RPG wouldn't be like Zelda II, but it would have some similar features like levelling. I wouldn't want another Zelda II...

  • @ZeldaUniverseTV But if we had another game like Zelda II it would be epic. I waiting for you wii ware

  • @SalvableRuin Zelda 2 was NOT an RPG. It was a fantasy action game that happened to have experience points. RPGs have multiple playable characters, or at least companions in the party, Complex weaving storylines, deep character development, item and skill management, and a whloe slew of things that Z2 doesn't have. Exp does not make an RPG. especially when all other elements of the game fit pretty squarely into the hack and slash side scroller genera.

  • @213shadesofgrey Alright, Zelda 2 was not an RPG; it was an action adventure game featuring a number of RPG elements. Also, RPGs usually have multiple playable characters, but that isn't necessary. And many would argue that a number of RPGs have terrible character development. Anyway, the game is only half side-scroller - the rest of the time you walk around the overworld with a bird's-eye-view, complete with RPG-style enemy encounters. It's "genre," btw.

  • @SalvableRuin There is no actual 'gameplay' besides walking in the top-down sections. I would actually argue that Zelda 2 is the least RPGish of the whole series actually. I would say the most important thing that separates RPGs from other games is stat based combat, randomized in some way. As in your accuracy and attack stats against the enemies defense and evade stats that determine a hit or miss, the amount of damage, etc. Genera is subjective to a certain degree, I suppose.

  • @213shadesofgrey I don't argue with your statements about what makes an RPG, but since it is subjective, and since I was referring to Zelda II being RPG-esque due to it having Link gain XP, those thoughts are beside the point. Zelda has always had many similarities to RPGs without really being one. I don't know what you mean about their not being gameplay other than in the top down overworld sections, as you obviously play side-scrolling sections. Maybe I misunderstood your intent.

  • @SalvableRuin What I meant was in the top down section, the only real gameplay is walking around... The Character limit made me shorten my comment, I see how it was ambiguous. I agree that it has some light RPG elements, Zelda does as a whole, but my pointis if Zelda is an RPG, than so is God of War, Castlevania, and a whole slew of others. If you confound genera lines too much, the terms start to lose meaning. Just my opinion.

  • @213shadesofgrey I agree with you.

  • im sory but i have to say CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Twilight Princess wasn't the only (or the first) Zelda game where the end battle against Ganon started with "monsters" and ended with you fighting Ganondorf as a man. The Wind Waker did the same thing.

  • His name was clearly "Wes: the tall Korok."

  • I think its "Wes, the tall Korok"

  • I think its "Wes, the tall Korok"

  • Thanks for answering! I'm pleasantly shocked. OH! And it's...Wes, the tall Korok. I just didn't think you could use spaces....

  • @Thegreatarrowguard12 You're very welcome! :D and haha, spaces totally would have helped.

  • Okami and Zelda are my fav games. I've never been able to choose one over the other. XD

  • will we ever see vaati in a return posibly in skyward sword ????

  • Zelda has had a steam boat :D

  • Wait.

You like Back to the Future... And can whistle Link's awakening overworld music...

    Seriously, you replace Cody wonderfully.

  • Jason spirit track had Steam engines and phantom hourglass had a steam boat do those count?

  • Speculated speculations are Speculated

  • How about... pieces of a lemon head? :P

  • @JBRewind Aren't lemonheads just pieces of lemonbodies? Think about it. I know: mind. blown.

  • I must refute that steampunk requires guns. If that were the case, I could make a King Arthur game and give him the Excalibur Rifle and call it steampunk.

Come to think of it, that would be hysterical...

However, I wouldn't feel like I was playing Zelda anymore. Why use a sword when you have a gun? Suddenly we'd be pulling the Maser Rifle from the display case in the the shack and charging it with fire and ice magic and using a scope to pick off defensless evil creatures.

    Just my view on it.

  • when are we going to sea the adam and eve of zelda

  • isnt that links awakening music?

  • I think putting guns in LoZ would be a total sell out move. They would have to get REALLY desperate for a change.

    You rock Jason!

  • alright, he's starting to grow on me now. i like him.

  • LOL the whistle thing at the end was EPIC!

  • Jason, you are too awesome I just can't stand it.

  • 8:08 it's pronounced ho-mun-cue-lus, but I'm glad to see that you know something about FMA. I'm obbssessed with brotherhood right now :P

  • @Neostar617 Pff. I watch it in Japanese, where diphthongs are for stupid people! But yeah, Brotherhood is a great show. Watched it after reading the manga, it was really faithful to it and that made me super duper happy. The original series was creepier though, I always thought ;)

Yay for nothing to do with Zelda :D

  • @ZeldaUniverseTV Yay! :D Brotherhood is great. I think that brotherhood has a more immersive story IMO. I was more immersed in the part where they go to the north and meet Armstrong's sister then the ending of FMA original. There were more times in the original series that made me feel really sad (*cough*Nina*cough*). Now on a zelda note, what if Majora is the bad guy in skyward sword? I've been thinking this for awhile, and I kind of want your opinion on the idea. Maybe during the mailbag?

  • @Neostar617 Brotherhood's/the manga's story certainly is more complete and makes more... "sense". I mean, since the original show split halfway from the manga, the show kinda is nonsensical and weird and crazy. But that's kinda why I like it so much!

As for your question, I'll respond here! Since I've never finished Majora's Mask I can't comment entirely, but if Majora's the bad guy that must mean Skyloft is secretly Termina. Oddly... that could explain how Termina got away from Hyrule.

  • I've played okami 24 times and I have played the demo of okamiden. I can't wait for it to come out!!! From the little bit I've played it's going to be harder because I almost died

  • @thefaff999 I've been trying to get my copy of Okami back from a friend so I could play through it again. I should have played it again before I let him borrow it. I'll be picking Okamiden up for the 3DS because my L and R buttons don't work on my DS Lite.

  • ZELDA AS A SHOOTER .... "LINKS CROSSBOW TRAINING" ...enough said ;)

  • I really like jason (pffft cody fanboys) but I think he's trying a bit too hard to be funny/compete with cody. And Jason has whistle swag.

  • Crossbow/Bow > everything else

  • Wait didn't Wind Waker follow the same boss sequence Monster to Man.

  • Well when the timeline thing that happend at the end of Ocarina of Time that caused the split timeline and created the cartoonie Hyrule also created a world set in the past that would overwrite the past and that way there could still be a Ganon there, right?

  • @Jason

Do we know how many years before OoT that SS happens? You have to remember that only 1 Gerudo Male is born every 100 years, and he is born to rule all Gerudo. What if the events of SS lead to the death of the Gerudo King before Ganondorf? The game may end with the eventual birth of Ganondorf.

Also, I agree that Ganon is the essence of evil within Ganondorf, but I don't believe it's a separate entity. Ganondorf became Ganon through the corruption of the Triforce of power. Do you agree?

  • Oh, and about the Ganon thing... I think it's kind of like Link. Each game has a different Link, so in turn, each game with Ganon has a different Ganon.

  • Zelda 2 is a RPG just not a turn based one

  • jason jason just think of this. time travelling ganon! great scott!

  • @KoopasRevengeHome Ganon and Doc Brown team up in THE MOST EPIC ZELDA GAME EVER.

  • You're a good whistler :D

  • About the final boss fight pyramid thingy... I think Twilight Princess's inverted pyramid made more sense, even though it was less "epic." I've never been able to understand why bosses always get MORE powerful when they have LESS health. (Rounded bosses that gain more attacks every time you damage them majorly.) I think it made sense for Ganondorf to use Zelda, then to become a huge beast, then for you to fight him on horseback and then have a normal sword battle. It made a lot more sense.

  • I love your mailbags and your outro!

  • really cool questions! amazing whistling at the end!

  • epic outro!

  • If Skyward Sword is before Ganon is born.. Then maybe Vaati could be a villain?

  • My favorite Zelda idea would be a Assassin's creed type game, where you play as Sheik during the seven years Link was in the temple of time.

  • this is like curiosity shop except axel the beast is an idiot, jason is not

  • zelda rpg? didnt the adventures of link do that? with the whole link lvling up thing.

  • I would support basic guns in Zelda if it weren't for one thing: The bow would probably obsolete. And 8:12 Took the worlds right out of my mouth.

  • I really like these ending music things. Keep up the good work!

  • Your funny

  • guns will take the fun away from killing monsters and bosses i mean look a octoroct bang dead going on theres no challenge and thats what zeldas all about saveing the world and princess with a sword not gun

  • You mean however many games there are in the Zelda series minus 3.

Majoras Mask, Link's Awakening and Phantom Hourglass (I think) aren't set in Hyrule. ;D

  • @Sharpclawasaurus Technically, The Wind Waker is set on the Great Sea (above Hyrule, but still), and Spirit Tracks is in New Hyrule. But the point is that there have been too many Zelda games with the same geography and similar dungeons. And I think Nintendo is starting to understand that they can't keep making the exact same game over and over again - it's games like MM, Link's Awakening, etc that end up having the cult followings because they're different and great. See, again, Okami ;)

  • @ZeldaUniverseTV I JUST PRE ORDERD OKAMI DEN, SO HAPPY!

  • @Sharpclawasaurus nor is the oracle series!

  • I think that ending it with a ssword fidht was really epic

  • they did make a shooter links training crossbow :D duh!!!!

  • @Animefan4ever5 yea but they mean guns that would taked the fun out of zelda

  • Your answers actually gave me a LOT of insight toward the concepts of Zelda, and it actually gave me an idea for my book. Thanks a lot!

  • links awakening FTW!!!

  • Imagine Link carrying around a musket! THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!

  • @SagaciousSilence that be funny/gay i think i like games with guns but zelda not that type of game

  • @heroofmask The musket would work VERY similarly to Link's bow anyhow. Also, the boats and trains seen in the Zelda universe reveal the possibility. Guns came before steam boats and trains.

  • @SagaciousSilence but guns are more powerful than bows making the game to easy pluse the train and boat where just means of transportation i mean after all the link of both games count swim and thay made st hyrule huge so ita take to long to walk from 1 place to another

  • @SagaciousSilence heck no! the day they give link a gun is the day I stop playing zelda!!!!!! :(

  • @Celestrian572 You do realize the gun came before the steamboat and the train right? They've already broken past guns as far as technology is concerned.

  • @Celestrian572 i have to agree there zelda never had a gun the do many year since it was made if they did they would lose more costumers than get people that love shooters

  • links voice ftw

  • Wimens first

  • YA!!! first view + commment. what do you think the next zelda game on the 3ds will be?

  • @narutomoon

    fail 1

  • first. LOL DONT EVEN TROLL ME TROLOLOL
