I followed everything exactly the way you explained it, & it worked for me.. But, I have a small issue; When I drag the MIDI clip onto the Audio track, The volume of the audio track is maxed out, like- brickwalled...I dont want that, How can I replicate the MIDI to Audio with the same volume I applied to the MIDI??..
yea he wastes 4 mins on making a beat...and if he is an engineer why is his microphone so low? does he know how to normalize or least raise the volume? bad video.
so weird, I don't have that "drum machines" folder that he opens at 0:28 I just bought ableton suite 8 a couple weeks ago...I should have everything, right?
how do i just send midi to an audio track to add effects just on the audio track? ive seen people do it but it doesnt work for me. probably because im using the ableton demo haha
freezing tracks is also very useful for those with the lite version (or limited in any way by number of midi tracks) because you can actually create more of your own loops
can some one please tell me the benefits of converting midi to audio? im dont see y this is can be that help full. cant you just work with midi just as well as with the audio?
@ermaclob lets say your working on a big project when your using alot of plugins wich use alot of cpu .. so when you freeze midi .. your plugins wil be frozen also... wich saves alott of cpu..
@FreestyleEntOnline ahh.. i see, that doesnt happen to much to me because instead of using a laptop or a normal computer, i use a custom built pc with 8 gb of ram and quad core overclocked cpu, 2,000 dollar machine. But i made it for PC gaming. i found it strand to convert to audio because i can run like 8-15 Massive Synths all at once depending on the complexity of the sounds, but thats not common in the stuff i do. 6 would be more common all at once.
i cringe when i hear ... " go ahead " im a youtube toot junkie and it is so damm cliche ...... great toot by the way why did i forget ow to do this ? i heard " go ahead " puff one down ,,,,,,haha
basically to convert a midi 'clip' to audio, freeze the midi track containing the midi 'clip' (midi track has to be (frozen), create an audio track, then drag the midi clip into one of the audio tracks slots. If you press 'Ctrl when dragging it will leave the midi 'clip' as well as create an audio copy 'clip'. If you have any active effects on the midi track it records them on your new audio . It's just a quick way of making an audio recordings of your midi 'clips'.
you have to specify a library folder from your live preferences, after you do that, it will ask you like "there are uninstalled packs would you like to install etc..." click OK, it will install tutorial lessons and your authorized packs
It won't let you drag into an audio track? On earlier Ableton versions (this video uses LIve 7) I don't think this can be done. I use Live Lite 4.
What you could do is change the input for an audio track "Audio from" to something like "5-MIDI" or whatever you have called your midi track you want to convert. Then record-enable that audio track and play the midi track. It's good for short tracks, maybe a few bars.
Also, on my version you cannot split the midi track as in his video.
@djbis Freezing the track is what allows the midi clip to be dragged to the audio clip, which sucks because to freeze a long one hour arrangement it takes forever.
But then I am running into another problem, when you freeze the midi clip and drag the midi to the new audio clip no actual audio is carried over. The waveform does not show any significant waves nor do I hear anything coming out of the audio clip.
Hey i dont have the tab on the side of the track either. I really wana know how to do this so i can put different effects on different parts of the drums. Aswell can i split it up like you have done by pressing tab if i am using battery
even robert's henke (aka monolake) monodeck drivers and software interface have been made in max.. I've seen a video somewhere here in youtube.. and read somewhere in the net that ableton basis were made in max
I already knew how to do this.. is there any possibility to make the opposite? kinda picking up a monophonic sound input (or even polyphonic if it is only one instrument) and turn the audio into midi.. I know it is possible to do with max object or external analyzer~ from cnmat from berkeley.. so that means, as the ableton base was made in max that if it doesn't support it it can be implemented in a ableton instrument.. that would be somthing interesting for a next version
I am not reffering to that.. in max 5 from cycling 74, you can use object fiddle~ and analyzer~ from berkeley cnmat, to track midi pitch info from an input audio source (like an external device) in real time.. I was referring to that stuff, so that you can, for and instance, pick up an electric guitar (just to give an example), plug it into an audio interface, and then use it as a midi control or having something similar to a guitar synth with an insturment from ableton or any other plug-in

im not sure if i understood what you said, but you can chop an audio clip and split it in midi notes.
just right click in any audio clip (inside an audio channel) and choose "split in a new midi clip" and you are done.
see you
