ok dont get me wrong.. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE.... but this is a future h.s. history teacher talking... IF YA' GONNA DO A PERIOD MUSICAL AT LEAST GET THE HISTORICAL FACTS HALF WAY TO CORRECT. Theren were no black n white couples, black bball players or any other blacks for that matter with white people. SEGREGATION PEOPLE!!!! It was ramped especially in the 1920's. GOOD MOVIE WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY OFF ON THE FACTUAL SIDE OF 1920'S SOCIETY!
I had a dream about this song, except the lyrics were, "the wells fargo wagon is a-comin' down the track." The weird thing is that I've never seen this musical or heard this song before. Glad to know that I'm not crazy and that there is such a thing as a wells fargo wagon, though. :)
Imagine that your life was so boring that this was not just exciting for you, but for your entire city. It'd be like everyone on your block following the UPS truck.
I don't ugh we had to watch it in band and now we have to play music from it the music gets stuck in my head all the time ITSDRIVING ME EVEN MORE EINSANE THAN I PREVIOUSLY WAS!!!!! But ya after the movie was over I liked it.
@5640802 I wish my teams name was ponies. All the uniforms would be pink, rainbow, purple, yellow, white, and orange. On the back, instead of the players names it would say "(insert character name here) is best pony."
@NekfireStorm Nope, I was just about to audition for the music man so I listened to songs from it. Then the day that I got the part of Harold Hill, ponies referenced it!
I didn't know they did a remake of this... that Marion looks VERY iffy to me, too needling and unlikable. I'll watch more before I make up my mind, but I already don't like her as the wide-eyed strong-minded Marion.
I love this video! It make me cry because my uncle was Winthrop in a high school production at the age of eleven and now I am winthrop with my friends!
I only ever saw this movie once, and heard the song during the same occasion... and yet, this stupid song gets stuck in my head atleast 5 times a week.
This movie is something of a hot mess. But i distinctly remember, I would watch this ONE song over and over and over in, like, 2004 when I was playing Winthrop in a middle school production.
@siblyAgoalie30 I thought this was the sixties version and I'm like " what? That person has got it ALL wrong the. I realized this is the 2003 version, so yah.
I'm singing this in choir and i have the solo that the little girl has at 0:22... and im a BOY!!! even more ironic, every person that has a solo in this video exept for Marion's family is also the OPPISITE GENDER in my choir class! One more thing, the lady that sings "Or a double-boiler!" at 0:52 is sung by the boy's part in my choir. At first we sing softly, and then for some reason every single time, every boy at the top of their lungs screams "OR A DOUBLE-BOILER!!!"
well im singin this song XD we sond good and once i did a solo ans it wasthe raisens from fresno one and this is wat i did so it was my solo but i did not know that so i said wait wait wat do i do and everyone looked at me and wee started over
@xasiankid92x No, in the time The Music Man is set, Wells Fargo was in the postal business, like UPS or FedEx and shipping not only for the large catalogs but for the US Postal Service as well.
I like the fact that black people are integrated into remakes of classic musicals as equals. It's disturbing that more and more history is being rewritten to reduce the struggle that black endured from slavery to equal rights.
@ishkabibble3296 back than they could not go on the internet and order want they want they had to order it through the swells Fargo wagon so it was a big deal cause the wells Fargo wagon could have something that they ordered.
@iDance1234 yeah but back in the early 1900's the wells fargo wagon was their ticket to get a taste of the big city! Bc little towns like that the wagon only stopped if it had a delivery if not it would have just completely gone around the town all together, so when it came it was a big deal. BUT I 100% AGREE WITH YOU FINISH THE SUNDAE FIRST FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD!
At least when I played Mrs. Paroo, I actually sang with an Irish Brogue! This lady sucks! the original with robert preston and shirley jones was so much better!
@calpoop2 Obviously, blacks and whites were not living together at that time in history. However, this is a made-for-TV movie of a light entertainment musical, not a realistic drama. Although I would have problems with blacks and whites together in a serious drama set in that time period, I had no problem with the mixed races when I saw this movie on TV years ago.
@calpoop2 Yeah, you see this play takes place in the 1950s, IN IOWA. Last time i checked, IOWA is in the North, and never had any segregation laws past the civil war.
@calpoop2 That's because this was produced in 2003. You are probably thinking of the 1962 film production featuring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Buddy Hackett and Ronnie Howard. I recall it had an all-white cast.
This version starred Kristin Chenoweth & Matthew Broderick.
@FionnSkye You mean other than the different cast? The newer one is half an hour longer, the song selection is slightly different and the newer one feels like it was shot in a more cinematic style. However, the 1962 was released in theaters and the 2003 was a television movie. I'm personally more partial to the 1962 because I just love hearing Robert Preston's Ya Got Trouble.
@calpoop2 Well, this being rural Iowa, segregation probably didn't exist much. That is, if there were blacks living in the town at all, which would be unlikely.
@calpoop2 If this movie was segregated when it came out than it would be called a racist movie so naturally they picked the less of two evils and only pissed off historian types...as opposed to blacks and those whites who hate segregation.
@Alpha42Omega couple years ago i think it was 2003. lol I this remake on tape. Dont u reember this? It has Kristen Chenowith as Marian and that guy who played Feris Buler as the Music man lol.
