It is not a bad little camera the Nikon D60. Sadly you can't use non-motorised lens on it body with Auto-focus. and it only has 3 Auto focus points. I sold my D60 on eBay last month (I got two Years service out of it) an upgraded to a Nikon D7000. It was like selling a Vauxhall Corsa and buying a Mercedes. Don't take this the wrong way The D60 is a great "First DSLR" But you will soon outgrow it.
Thanks Elliot! I got a d60 last year for xmas and a 55-200 lense and a sb600 speed light this year! I don't like reading the manual so you really help me out!
@ElliottMediaGroup and @matsui2001 I'm not taking digs i'm justing asking because theres a rcih kid in my school has like 5k worth of photography gear and he isn't even into it
That's a setting which identifies areas in the image that may be better managed using the "D-Lighting" capbilities of the camera. I think the instructions for enabling/disabling this are in the manual - just look under "D-Lighting".
I was wondering if you could help me out. I bought a D60 and did not come with the software mainly because it was second hand. What is the software that came with your camera when your parents bought it for you.
The other problem I am having is, how to download pictures. It seems to me that it is imperative to have the software before you can even think about downloading pictures from it.
My friend, this christmas try and get a Telescope 114mm and a Barlow 2x Reflex Adapter! I've got it, and the results are amazing with long exposures! you've got a really nice present!!
Hey elliot, I just ordered my Nikon d60, I got a body only, but I also got a nikon 50mm 1.8 lense, very good lense, it is supposed to take very clear pictures. I have a question about iso, aperature, and shutter speed settings. What would you recommend for well lit outdoor golf photos? Also, how about portraits with vivid color, what settings would you reccomend? Thank you in advance, -David
Hi :) I left some comments earlier. I got my camera last week and I love it :D One thing, though. Where's the video setting on the camera? (If It has one, of course)
Doesn't the battery come with a battery charger? I'm getting the d60 in early July and from watching this review, it's pretty much the only thing that concerns me.
I'm currently in the process of buying a slr and the Nikon d60 is the one I have my eye set on! I was wondering how many photos you can get on your sd card and how many gb's your card is. Thanks so much!

I have used the D-60, Cannon EOS 1000D and the Sony A350. I say the D60 would proboly be the better beginner Camera but it depends on your preference. The egonomics of each are different so just try each of them out and see which one feels better in your hands. I just got my d90 and trust me its a huge difference, completely different class.

hey, im new to slr photography, i just bought the d60 and can't figure out how to keep the shutter open and adjust the it so i can take cave photograpy useing an external flash away from the camera, can you help?
Hello ElliottMediaGroup. Thanks for your review on the Nikon D60. I ordered mine and then started looking at the youtube videos while waiting for its delivery. It came on 1-15-2009. Just ordered a 55-200mm zoom with VR as well. Looking forward to checking out your shots. Take care.
heres a tip if u dont know when taking and puting the lens on and off but ur camera face down to avoid geting any dirt or stuff that can fly in there and mess up the inside
i got the same camera for xmas. i got it in gold and i got vr stock lens but i got the 55-200mm lens with vr also. but yea i love my camera. because of the camera i got a photography job
The D60 takes a rechargable battery made by Nikon. I found it lasted for around 500 shots, although most of those were without flash, which will lower the number of shots per charge. You can also by extra replacement batteries if you are going on a long trip without access to charging (see amazon). Hope that helps!
i think you have a faulty battery cuz i have taken 1200 in one day and got 3 bars of battery life which is full... so i dont kno about the battery you got
Thats an awesome camera, your gallery looks great. I'm actually flying through the LA airport tomorrow, too bad I don't have time tour the area at all.
I just recently got this camera and I have to say it is by far the best... I compared it with the canon rebel and its crap! the canon that is. it is so flimsy u feel like ur gonna drop it and the lense is gonna break but with this camera u fell like nothing bad will every gonna happen.
That sounds cool. If you want to save a little cash you might be able to pick up an 18-55 and 55-200 lenses separately rather than buying the 18-200 which I believe is more expensive.
Hi Elliott, I am not much into special cameras, however, as a teacher I just love your tutorials. I will pass on the info if anyone is interested in getting the Nikon D60
Good question- I have taken a few of stars and they came out pretty cool (slow shutter speed necessary, you should take a look at the optional remote control). I'll try the moon some time soon- I'd imagine it should come out pretty neat.

Nice and helpful. Thanks.
In Flickr how did you take the photos like Mist and Mist 2.0. I'm guessing it was long exposer? Did you use a lazer pointer or something?
KGSProductions 3 years ago
Yup, you got it. A long exposure and a flashlight with a small bulb or laser pointer created those images. It's pretty fun!

Cool. Thanks for replying.

Take care.

How long is the average battery Life?
Or is it chargeable?

I'm new to this "Camera" Stuff.

The D60 takes a rechargable battery made by Nikon. I found it lasted for around 500 shots, although most of those were without flash, which will lower the number of shots per charge. You can also by extra replacement batteries if you are going on a long trip without access to charging (see amazon). Hope that helps!

Thank You!
This really helped me, I'm getting real interested in photography. And This particular camera I am interested in buying.
Thanks again Elliott.

i think you have a faulty battery cuz i have taken 1200 in one day and got 3 bars of battery life which is full... so i dont kno about the battery you got

Keep up the great work!

Good question- I have taken a few of stars and they came out pretty cool (slow shutter speed necessary, you should take a look at the optional remote control). I'll try the moon some time soon- I'd imagine it should come out pretty neat.
ElliottMediaGroup 3 years ago
could you confirm that the 18-55 kit lens has AF?
thanks
Pollocj91 3 years ago
Yes, the 18-55 kit lens has AF- very useful!
