Wow! These instruments are so beautiful. My mom discouraged me from musical instruments early on in life (I don't know why). However, I was school age in the mid to late sixties and had elementary teachers who played auto harp, flute, clarinet and hand drums. Also grew up around First Nations people who sang traditional songs, Scottish and Irish people who played bagpipes. I am looking at getting a harp made by Timothy Habinski. Your hurdy gurdy looks beautifully detailed - with flowers?
Happy New Year gurdymike and thanks for your reply. Is Nigel Eaton related to the Chris Eaton, who made your instrument? I am now 48 and contemplating learning the harp - but now wonder if I should attempt the hurdy gurdy? Some have told me that the harp is difficult to learn. Is the hurdy gurdy difficult? I have crafted with my hands (knitting, drop spindling etc) most of my life and have arthritic pain in my hands. Do you play, I think its called, border pipes as well??
@autumngypsy1Happy New Year to you too. Yes, Nigel Eaton is the son of Chris Eaton. I have just commissioned another instrument from Chris. Trouble is there is always a three year waiting list with Chris. I have asked him to make me a three row instrument, which means you can play chords on it. Something Chris invented. I would say Hurdy Gurdy is much easier than the harp, but I have never tried the harp. I play Northumbrian Pipes.
This is such a beautiful instrument!!! Thank you for knowing how to play this and blessing us with your talent. Many blessings to you also............I had the priveledge of seeing Loreena McKinnit in concert a few years back and her band included a gentleman who played the hurdy gurdy. I love this instrument and the harp.
il semble y avoir une flute mais ce son est un son parasite , et etonnamment tous ces sons parasites foment le son complet ,brut et ce son inspire !IL donne envie de composer !
Is that `Polka Daveron`? I was going to learn that but the Gurdy I bought from Neil Brook was so bad it cant be played so I`m having to save up for another. I would have sent it back but one of his friends started threatening me....nice people.
Thank you so very much! It is a pleasure to listen to your beautiful skilled playing on an exceptional instrument. (There are waaay too many sad videos out there, which make the hurdy gurdy sound as if a poor tortured scorched cat is being swung wildly by the tail.)
@cloverk00 ...........Thanks for the nice comment. I try my best. I agree that it is so important to ...1st, have a good instrument and 2nd have it 'set up' well otherwise it can make a 'not very pleasing' sound..
Thank you for posting. My world is a little more richer for knowing you exist.

@autumngypsy1 Hi ...thanks for your nice comment. The guy playing the Hurdy Gurdy in the Loreena Mckennitt tour was Nigel Eaton. (a great player).
