Liggett & Myers was the series' primary sponsor from April 1961 through September 1962. Part of their arrangment as sponsor was to have Rod plug the cigarette that sponsored the evening's episode at the end of his "next week's preview", at the end of the episodes sponsored by Liggett. Oasis, their menthol brand, was the one Rod plugged that spring. By the fall of '61, it was Chesterfield King. The "plugs" could be eliminated [for future reuse of the preview] by fading Rod out after :25.
Edward Rodman Serling, a man who not only fought to protect our country way of life in WWII, and took a fair amount of damage for it. But also fought censors twice as hard to make sure his vision was seen and heard, by all on this earth...
When TV was about the "Beaver" and "Donna Reed," he wanted to illuminate such as war, racism, anti-society, paranoia and other destructive elements that come from within us.
He was buried with full military honors. I hope television honors as well. All he wanted was to remembered as a writer.
Well.... I remember....
