  • good

  • But did you know that the original name is MARMITE, later copied by Australia and called Vegemite

  • LMAO Deach face, that was AWESOME!!! What does it taste like anyway?

  • @iggyUkes I'm sorry! I somehow missed your comment back when you wrote it. It tastes really strong. We (Australians) usually put a really thin scraping on toast, and then it tastes great (well, I think so seeing I was brought up with it). For people who haven't tried it, it's often too strong though, and did you see how much Deach put on his bread! LOL

  • I'm a vegemite addict from the UK! Love this ukulele song!

  • @UkeTubeUK Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it. So cool to see there are Vegemite fans in the UK as well! I thought it was just Marmite over there.

  • dat man put too much on his bread, ur supossed to scrape it on with butter, than it's good

  • OMG that is too random - I just saw that guy in your video earlier tonight doing that "touching rendition" of Love Bites. I almost didn't recognize him without the hair. I LOVE VEGEMITE!

  • LOL! What a small world on YouTube. I loved his "touching rendition" of Love Bites. I loved watching him eat vegemite even more though. lol

  • and one last thing ... that bald guy (sorry - I don't know his name!) does not represent Americans! lol I am one, and I put it on everything from pizza, to tuna sandwiches, to straight from the jar. Yum.

    :)

  • It really is - I mean what are the chances of that happening?! Def Leppard and vegemite ... all in one day?! That heart-felt rendition did bring a tear to my eye. Seeing your video sank my heart though...his gorgeous "hair" is a wig?? :(..

BTW, I really enjoyed your playing...and the song! Everyone should write a song about vegemite... =P

  • hehehe fantastic :-)

  • Thanks! It was so much fun to watch Deach try it :-)

  • Ha I though Deach was going to spill it all out on film

  • I was hoping! lol

  • Oh man, I could feel the pain.

  • Most people sing about love, death, feelings ,etc...vegemite is just as relevant!Really catchy song and a slightly psychedelic video(but then again marmite/vegemite will have such effects on musicians)

  • Thank you for your comment! I love it! That made me smile. Yes, Vegemite is just as relevant as love, death and feelings, yet hardly ever sung about. Time to change that! Thanks for watching.

  • LOL! poor Deach! so funny!

  • good one Michelle.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!

deach your face says it all!!! Literally...I laughed out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great tune 1412 and deach!!!

  • ahahahahaha.. Wow Deach... I'm still laughing... Great Song

  • how does it taste? :)

  • great Idea; great song, but the lyrics of your song should have accompanied the vegemite -- as a friendly warning.

  • Thanks Michael, and that's a great idea! I wanted to make that part of the video all about Deach, so I kept the music as instrumental. But having the lyrics with the taste test video would have been good as a visual warning!

  • Yeah, we have marmite over here, but I have had vegimite from our local shop, I must admit, I always spread it as thick as Deach did, I love the stuff!

  • I love it too, and can't get enough of it, but I really don't think I could eat it spread quite as thickly as Deach did! LOL I like Marmite too - and Promite, and Mighty Mite.... love them all!

  • in england we call it marmite. i love it

and deach, that was far tooooo much on that knife. your face was priceless

  • I love Marmite too. I think what I've learned most from doing this video is that English people like Marmite maybe even more than we like Vegemite!

Yes, when Deach sent me the video, as soon as I saw how much he had on his knife, I was laughing before he even tried it. I knew what his reaction would be.

  • vegemite is yucky. but your song, video, cameo, editing, everything was top notch! great one Michelle!

  • Thank you Russ! I just had to share this video. Deach's face was too funny! Finally working out the new features in iMovie....

  • The look on Deach's face was priceless. Had me cracking up! I've tried vegemite. I can't understand how anybody can like it!

  • It's definitely an acquired taste. I think it's one of those things you either love or hate. I can't go long without it. I can't imagine toast without Vegemite! lol

  • Thanks for sharing this.

I'm an Aussie. Love this vidoe, and love Vegemite!!!

I know many people here bring it with them when they go overseas.

  • Thanks for your comment Terry, and yes, I take Vegemite with me when I go overseas too.... even if it's only to see the faces of my overseas friends as they try it.

  • Great!

    このビデオを見て、とても楽しめました!

  • 本当にありがとう!

  • LOL Love you vegemite!

But maybe it's an acquired taste for rest of the world

  • LOL! Definitely an acquired taste for everyone else, but it's fun watching them try it. Thanks for your comment, and for subscribing!

  • Hilarious!

  • Thanks! Deach's reaction was so funny I had to share it.

  • AHHHHHHHHHHH way too funny. Perfect!

  • Thanks SSS! It was a fun one to do.

  • LOL :-) I think he liked it!!! Great tune!

  • LOL! Yes I've heard it's now his favourite food ;-)

  • What a great song, Michelle! Very brave of deach to take a big ol' bite of the stuff.

I have to confess I prefer Marmite to Vegemite, but in a pinch I would eat the latter.

  • It was very brave of him! And so funny to watch! I probably should have warned him not to put too much on, but it was so much more fun this way. So many people mentioning Marmite - I'm going to have to try it again now... I haven't had it for years.

  • Gosh, what can I say that has'nt already been said?... Great song and fun reaction!...

  • Thank you CJ! It was a fun video to do.

  • no offence michelle, i wouldn't grease gears with that stuff...gaak!

    beautifully played/written/sung tho'!

    : )

    p.

  • Thanks Petri, and no offence taken of course! It's definitely an acquired taste. It's so much fun to watch people try it for the first time though.

  • Great Stuff Michelle,,, Crikey, whats wrong with these bloody people,, Strike me moses,,,Vegemite is the best bloody thing since sliced bread,,, When you put the 2 together,,, toasted with Butter,n cheese,, its the best thing since,,,!,, since,,,,!,,,,,since this bloody song ,

Stone the Crows Elsa,,the kangaroo's are out of the back paddock,,, hehehee,

I still cut mine into Lil' soldiers,

cause i'll always be a happy lil vegemite,

  • Now you're talking!! Someone who knows the joy of Vegemite!! I'll always be a happy lil vegemite too :)

And yes! Toasted with butter and cheese, and I love it with egg on toast as well.

  • do you think Deach has a stomach of cast iron? Having Vegemite with your toast is one thing but to chase it down with a chocolate bar? That would make me ill!!!!lol!!!

  • LOL! Ah yes, but if that chocolate is a Tim Tam.... they make everything taste better.

  • Are you sure it's not ant paste? Kudos to Deach for trying it. I think you should vote for a Nuetella Sandwich Song (German's answer to crack!) MMMMMmmmmmmso good. Great fun with the song and uke!!

  • Ant paste?!? LOL!!! Too funny. Yes, I think Deach was very brave putting that much in his mouth all at once. Of course, he didn't know that at the time...

Nutella is great too! We have that here as well. Mmmmm!

  • hahaha too funny

nothin like watchin' deach eat vegemite while there's beautiful uke music in the background, :)

    the commercial is great too,

  • Thanks Shani! Yes, I thought the music suited the before he tasted it part - afterwards that "happy" music just wouldn't have been right! lol

  • Tried it. Uck! Great song, Michelle! Loved the ending too.

  • But did you spread it too thickly? :)

Thanks Alan - and the ending was from the 1920s vegemite commercial - it's still the same theme song today.

  • I just ate vegemite on toast for breakfast. 5 star breakfast, 5 star song!

  • Thank you! And I had vegemite on toast for a snack this afternoon. Can't go long without it!

  • Superb - Deach=Legend, his face was priceless, like all seven of the seven dwarves at once.

    I don't need vitamin B1that bad.....

  • I love that! All seven of the seven dwarves! You're right. It was so funny to watch. I knew what was going to happen as soon as I saw how much he had put on the knife.

  • Great song! I tried Vegemite when I was in Australia and nearly threw up. It's just not up there with the FANTASTIC Marmite I'm afraid.

Fantastic song though and loved the advert at the end :) 5* from me.

  • I think you did it, Deach, you "spread it too thickly"... *lol* I first came across this stuff while on a student exchange in England. There's also another stuff called "Marmite" (made from yeast extract, I think) which is equally disgusting. Cool vid though!! :-)

  • Thanks! Yes, it's definitely an acquired taste - Vegemite and Marmite. I couldn't be without it though. I went overseas for six weeks a while ago and missed it so much!

  • Uh-oh... that sounds like an addiction! Never knew that yeast can make you addictive, but it obviously seems to be the case here! :-)

  • yes!!!

    this was too much fun!!!

Deach 'went for it' with the vegemite!

    good on him!

    Todd

  • LOL! I think I scared him off it for life after that though. But it was sooo much fun to watch. Thank you for your comment!

  • ^_^ this video really made my day!!! wonderful wonderful wonderful and deach's special guest appearance was a very good idea -- i really really like the song. makes me smile all along ^_^ thank you dear michelle!

  • Thank you so much Sebi for such a lovely comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I really wrote the song around the video. The video of deach had been making me laugh for ages, so I wanted to share it. I'm glad I could make you smile too.

  • Good Video and song. You're the best Michelle!

  • Thank you very much Paul! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • awesome job michelle! great video skills/singing and also struming!! Good stuff

  • Thank you so much Nam! It was a fun one.

  • Great song and video, but im affraid im a marmite kid, its marmite all the way baby get your teeth slammed in some of that black yeasty treat, great on cheese on toast!

  • One thing I've learned from making this video is that English people love Marmite even more than we love Vegemite I think! I'm going to have to try Marmite again now.

  • I love Vegemite! I loved it right away when I first took a bite of vegemite sandwich. It was in New Zealand in 1981. Brings back lots of good memories and glorious days. Thanks for such a wonderful song and that 1920 Vegemite commercial. Keep up the good singing and ukulele playing. I am watching your videos.

  • Thanks for watching, and such a great comment! Great to hear you like Vegemite! You must be one of the few Americans who liked it straight away. The others don't know what they're missing!

  • Nice tune... but I just read up on the stuff and can't help but wonder why anyone would put that in their mouth? haha

  • LOL! It's definitely an acquired taste. And when you read about it, it sounds really gross... Baron told me what it says on Wikipedia... but it really does taste good as long as you spread it really thinly. I grew up on it, but I love watching people try it for the first time. Deach's reaction is pretty normal!

  • Great little tune Michelle. Love the vegemite jingle on the uke in the middle while deach is getting set up was a nice touch.

  • Thank you Derek! That was a fun one to work out and play.

  • Poor Deach!

I really liked the uke solo during Deach's "Enhanced Digestion Treatment"

  • Thanks Brad!! That took more time to work out than the song took to write, so I'm glad you liked it! It's the Vegemite jingle from their commercials.

  • Well done, Michelle! The song is great & thanks for sharing the Deach vid with us... and even the commercial at the end was cool!

  • Thanks Adelle! That commercial was from the 1920s, but they still use the same jingle now, and put bits of that commercial into their current ones. And I had to share the Deach video. It was too funny to keep to myself.

  • Great song about a not so great (for me at least) treat. I should get all my kids to try it.

  • I'm still hoping you'll try it again spread lightly!!!

I'll send you sandpaper with the next lot. lol

Thanks for videoing this though! It was so much fun to watch... for me... my family... my whole office.... and now YouTube. LOL

  • you had far tooo much on that knife deach, i love the stuff but i knew as soon as i saw how much you were biting into your face would be a picture

  • Wow, Michelle, a song in Tastovision! That's better than 3-D. Well done. I'm big into anchovies, the seagoing cousin of Vegemite. Tasty deliciousness, all of it.

  • Ah yes, they do have a similar taste in a way, don't they? I agree - tasty deliciousness! Thanks for the comment.

  • send it to the deacher.. he;ll eat and wear anything..

    Great vid.,

  • LOL! I give him full credit for being willing to try it! And to put himself on video while doing it.

  • love the song but if that spread is any thing like are marmite then i wont be trying it am not too keen myself

  • It's definitely an acquired taste. It is pretty much like marmite. I don't know how to explain the difference, but it's probably got a stronger taste than marmite. I've known people who like marmite, but still think vegemite is too strong and salty.

  • Vegenite - Marmite, I loves it. Nice bread, a little cheese, some mustard - dats lunch.

I may be the only American who does... I think most americans expect spreads to be sweet, not salty and savory.

I LOVE this song! Great job!

  • When I lived in England I got hooked on Jacob's Twiglets, a savory snack [like pretzel sticks] coated in Marmite. Every so often my wife's family sends me some and I ration them carefully.

  • Mmmm!! That sounds good!!!

  • YES!!!! You understand! And you're right, you may be the only American who does! LOL I love it with cheese too. Haven't tried mustard... I'll have to give that a go. It's really nice on toast under poached eggs too.

  • I understand Deach, although I havent tasted it - I looked it up on wiki and it said "a dark brown food paste made from yeast extract" and the tasted was "salty, slightly bitter, and malty - somewhat similar to the taste of beef bouillon". What's wrong with ham and cheese? Great song though!

  • LOL!!! Ham and cheese is not nearly as much fun to share with unsuspecting overseas friends though! That beef bouillon definition is pretty much right... which sounds really gross, but it tastes surprisingly good. I think it's something you've got to grow up with though....

  • Great video, Michelle. Deach's reaction was a treat. What fun.

  • Thanks Ken! Yes, it made me laugh. It was a fun video to watch, and I had to share it.

  • hahaha. i love marmite which is pretty much the same thing :) poor deach, he spread too thickly. loved the song :)

  • I love marmite too. I like them all! And yes, I laughed so much when I saw how much he had put on the bread. I've been trying to get him to try it again spread lightly, but I think I scared him off for life. lol

  • Personally I prefer Marmite- do they have that in the states?

Cool song Michelle- loved the picking when Deach was preparing the feast :)

  • Thanks for that! The picking was the Vegemite jingle. They've had the same jingle since the 1920s. I'm not sure if they have Marmite in the States. We have it here in Australia... as well as Promite, and Mighty Mite, and Bovril....

  • This is great!! I have friends from Australia and they swear by this stuff! I have tried it and I have to agree with Deach on this one! Oh, it is nasty!! What are the choclates called? Tim Tams?

  • Yes, the chocolates were Tim Tams. I think they were much more popular! I think Vegemite is one of those things you have to grow up with.

  • Vegemite! Rember tasting that stuff when I was downunder...

    What shall I say..

    Nice song anyway ;-)

  • Yes, it's one of those things I think every visitor has to do when they come to Australia - try Vegemite. I wonder how many like it? lol
