Before unions and government regulations, children worked 60 hour weeks alongside their parents in textile mills. Families earned enough to rent small, poorly constructed houses that were owned by their employers, usually sharing the expense with other families. Working conditions were extremely hazardous and anybody who complained was immediately fired. It's easy to understand why CEOs would love to return America to a time when workers had no voice.
