I've been looking for a drifting game, where you can DRIFT while racing (ie. not need for speed) and seeing as how this is based on an anime where they do that, it seems like it'd be exactly what I was looking for. would this game be hard to understand or play for someone who knows NO Japanese?

I almost wet my pants when I saw this trailer, the RX8 and AE86 passing each other in slo-mo (1.02). I pre-ordered it before the trailer had even finished. Then I played the game and a huge wave of disappointment swept over me. Sega rushed the port, loading screens all over the place. Initial D on the PSP was superior in pretty much every aspect.

I don't have it in me to sell it, its initial D! I still try it now and again but come away hating it more each time *sob* DAMN YOU SEGA!

The version that comes with an english manual has no online compatablility, and the version without an english manual has the online play.

I know it doesn't make much sense as marketablity goes, but that's just how it is.

That's Initial D Arcade Stage 5. Extreme Stage is- was based on Arcade Stage 4. It's completely different than IDAS5 so you were actually playing a completely different game.

I D/L'd the 2003 game for the PC as a torrent, it's in english. Not bad for direct 8x, i usually don't use the keyboard for gamming, but it works well.. manually initiate drifts to go faster than just pin balling off the guard rails.

well here's the thing, there is no version with english text in it currently and I don't think there will be, just like how street stage and special stage never translated their text, however there is a version you can buy that comes with an english manual, just like street stage did, but the only catch is that that version of IDES you buy DOES NOT have online play.
