Instead of just applying for jobs for a year and complaining about personality tests, try getting educated in something of value. No company wants to hire someone who is "self taught" when someone else is applying at the same time that is certified and properly educated. You can get a Microsoft certification for a couple hundred bucks.
Its stupid to even ASSUME someone would hire you based on a promise of intelligence. I would never apply for a job and say im a self taught engineer. Wise up.
@Network126 Anyways I think I'm going to be back in school this September for Nursing...healthcare seems to be the only career that's going forward. Try telling a nurse that they have to work for free or work unpaid over-time. It simply isn't happening. Luckily right now I work a throw-a-way job at a call centre to save up some money for school though...so my situation may not be as bleak as some others currently out there...it's just a little sad I'm spending the majority of my 20's in school.
@Network126 I'm about the same age as you, and roughly in the same situation. I have a degree in marketing/finance from 2010 but that's been worthless. HR at most companies I've interviewed at has been useless and very judgemental towards the whole job situation. Corporate interviews are set up very poorly in my opinion too - who the hell cares what my greatest weakness is or my greatest accomplishment in life? Another detrimental factor is that after a while your resume gets discarded.
the better question is what guy wants a women who is superficial enough to think about him living in the dinning room and wonder maybe How did he get their? and they loose their job and then they know...i honestly think some of you are just fuckin dumb.much respect man fuck these guys
@DocSnaxx Yup, I agree. They're so quick to judge, and rarely think about the circumstances behind the situation. It's assumed that just because someone isn't doing well, they must be losers. Everything is so upside down - There just aren't enough jobs for everyone, and corporations/banks have all the wealth.
People frown on working without paying taxes. This is brainwashing. The whole tax system is a big scam. People have been brainwashed to believe that they have to hand their hard earned dollars to the government to support phony wars. Unbelievable.
the university i worked for gave me a work phone so i started playing around with it, and bought some music downloads, and my boss fired me. iIwas like wtf man you were gonna find out and besides it's not like i wasn't going to pay you. I don't get it the day before i told him that he was like the phone's for work, and i said are you taking my phone he said no and i went back to work and the next day he called me in to fire me sheiss
a computer tech that cant find a job???? you are kidding me??? come on... an intelligent comp tech would be working right now... you aint trying... sorry!
I am sure i will get crap over this... but.. you need to change your direction, walk down your neighborhood... knock on every door, ask them if you can paint their house or detail their car... its mindless work BUT you can do it and you can do it tax free... screw the government if you fell as if they are screwing you.. I have done this... and can say that it works!
You know I hate the places that fucking ask for all these skills, requirements ...etc. and then its like $8 an hour wtf? These employers are seriously taking advantage of all the skilled ppl that are umemployed..
@dontshootmesanta Yeah, I've run into that too - I should have covered that in the video! They do it because they can - It's an employer's market. They can ask for any requirements they want, and pay as little as they want, because they will still find people who will eagerly take the work anyway. This is creating tough competition for even minimum wage jobs, which is why I'm living in my dad's dining room at 24. I was working in an office for a bit at $8/h, mostly doing skilled Photoshop work.
@dontshootmesanta I'm not really seeing any light at the end of the tunnel, either. I feel like I'm always going to live in the dining room, never knowing what it's like to live a "normal" adult life, and have my own place. It's a real downer, because I have nothing financially to even offer women. Having a job brings money, social identity, confidence, and ability to hold down a place and basic living necessities. I can't even experience doing all that because I'm too poor and can't get ahead.
@dontshootmesanta I drive an '84 Ford Tempo, which I'm always working on, to keep it running. I usually don't drive very far, since it's a 28 year-old car, with mostly original parts. I'm lucky to even have what I have. My main transportation for years, used to be my $159 Schwinn that I bought at Target. Even used it countless times for grocery trips, since it was all there was. I'm glad I have my clunky old car. Just hope it keeps running!
@dontshootmesanta Hell yeah, I was doing office work that involved a lot of Photoshopping (skilled work), and I was only getting $8/h too. Now I'm making nothing, because business slowed down and they couldn't afford to keep me, even though they liked me and I was always fixing technical issues with all their computers. Life in this economy sucks.
@dontshootmesanta How are they taking advantage of people? If you don't like the pay dont take the job. No one is forcing you to work for that firm. If you want more than $8 an hour you need an education. Should have paid attention in high school my friend.
I got so sick of the "routine" that I started putting "A million dollars a year" in the "Salary desired" box on my applications. One day I found an interviewer with a sense of humor who laughed and said, "Let's negotiate, shall we?", and got a great job. They do like boldness and people who think outside the box.
I just got turned down for a sales job; manager asked me if I lived home with my parents. WTF? I do, but shit that's none of his business. haha.. fuckin economy.
So true, brother. So true. I am experiencing 99% of everything you mentioned. I have a BS degree in accounting and haven't had any real work for over 5 years, and only temp/part time work for the past 8 years or so. Keep your chin up knowing you are not alone. If I were in a position to do so, I would hire you - you are an intelligent man. Somehow, at some time, something's gotta give . . . let's hope it's sooner than later.
@aerofart I hear you brother... this shit can't go on. The occupy movement needs to get millions of people to go and storm every government office, and shut it all down by sheer numbers alone. Too many of us are oppressed and suffering financially. I'm about to be 24, and live in my dad's 10'x5' dining room. The only "private" place I have to bring any girls over to, is my '84 Ford. I'm just so fucking tired of living so damn poor. I fix computers on my bed here and there to survive.
we have men and women telling us Americans whatever we want to here to get the votes for the pimpest job in the world, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
dude you need start acting like a politician when you interview. i alwys get the job when i interview. and when i say politician, im talking about the guy who says there going to fix the world, the guy that says he aint guilty in a deposition, the guy who says "sorry folks i dont know why our economy has gone down the tubes but ill look into it." i hope your starting to get my drift. I follow a strict plan when i interview and that plan title's "im the sh+t"
I totally understand&have experianced everything you have said. Its been almost two years&I have been rejected by some really low class jobs.I've been on interviews and asked a lot of crazy question like,"What do you think about the educational system here in our state?",What does that have to do with the job I'm interviewing for.My family thinks I'm lying when I say I've been looking for work. They believe I'm not trying hard enough or not doing something right. Therefore they offer little help.
no body wants to hear a borring story of your medi-o-cer skills. explain how you saved the company 10million dollars last year in lost prevention. if you dont know what im talking about google the term and make up a story that fits your trade. my motto is....yes i do have experience! 5years to be exact. 5 years in what mr. potential employee? .......my mental response.."i got 5 years experience in whatever your hiring for" and then I make something up on the spot.
the only reason why i alwys get the job,.. is cause i compete against guys like you and most of the posters on this board. other wise if you all had the interviewing skills I would have major competition.
you guys need to smarten up and practice your acting skills. you have all these skills and you havent even sharpend up your most important skill. your interviewing skills! you are there to sell that employer something. life is no where near fair. its the modern time of survival of the fitest where your words, skills, knowledge and mobility gets you fed and genes carry on. !
@buffpuff80 - Lying to get a job does not help your cause in the long run. Do you enjoy jumping from Job to Job? Quit acting like your strategy works, because it doesn't. If you want to build good working relationships you need to be honest in all you do.
@buffpuff80 When the village finds you are a liar, you are banished from that village; must survive on your own, and risk greater chance of death by the wild; (Analogy) you are not working with humanity by lying to everyone; you are not building trusting relationships. Just Letting you know.
Just to let you know how easy it is to get a job in a down economy, im gunna brag for a min. Between 2009~12 ive had 4 different jobs that payed above 16 an hr. 3 of those jobs I had no experience but when I left the interview, not only did I tell the employer I had the experience but I left them believing I did.
and I quit all of them cause I didnt like the job. Plus I know for a fact I will get another job. I just dont know yet what I want to do. As long as I have options to jump from job to job, nothing is really stopping me. Its not illegal to quit on ppl.
You need to learn, ppl that are interviewing you only know as much as you tell them, and are gullable as the next idiot walking down the street. And when you get hired your alwys going to get trained so it never really mattered that you have experience in the first place. Does it? well I hope you guys who dont have a job and read this, grow a pare of testicles and claim your stake in the job world. You had a reason to grype but now you have some knowledge.
If this advise seems a little hard to do to an employer, try it on a craigslist job first. before the major company you really want in on. Apply for a job that is some thing you dont even want. so if you stumble during your trial runs you dont even care. And most likely if you dont even care, your going to be more confident, and youll careless about what the interviee thinks and you'll perfom better. Right? Good luck!
P.s I know my grammar and punctuation sucks. Not necessary to say! But go ahead if you feel the need to. P.s.s. And for all the other posters who want to talk sh#t. You can sit on my middle finger and rotate after I slap your mom for not aborting. If you havent been slapped yet, thats because you have a wait ahead of you! F.M.L.A.E.B.A.ME!
@TheINFJGuy Making this video actually IS doing something about it! Think about it. I'm on the WORLDWIDE WEB, saying I'm unemployed, and showcasing my skills. Second, I've signed up for revenue sharing on here - Which means that YT gives me money to put ads on my videos. Pretty clever, eh?
I know what you mean. I'm 22 and I have never worked before. I finally wanted to get a job after getting out of depression when I turned 20 years old. I am still unemployed. The only thing that I have going for me right now is going full time to junior college. And when I'm on vacation like around this time of year I get really down because there is nothing to do other than go on online and do housework. Not to mention like you said in your video, there is no money :-(
@felixduhcat89 Yep, stories like ours are becoming the sad norm in the USA. I'll be 24 soon, and I'm still living in my dad's dining room. No steady work, just little random things here and there to get by with. I'm afraid to spend on anything extra, so mostly all there is to do is sit around in front of the computer, or go out and ride my bike to the beach. Doesn't help to also be single too though :/
I have been unemployed closely to 2 years, and i know how you feel. I am constantly looking for jobs and people (with jobs) doesn't agree how hard i am looking for work. I am a part time student and also looking for job. THese days jobs only except quote Experiences skill labors, if you dont have experience you don't get the job. For example "Experiences only" and "No unemployment" on job website. This is lame! I have few Exp. Janitor, and hourly service(Food stand serving food.)
@trigun10 I am working, BUT, not where I wish to be. If things continue by 2021, I will RUN to either Mexico or Brazil and buy some land, and farm ! LOL
The larger and longer the unemployment, the deeper and more complicated are the social and economic problems it causes insociety. The existence of stable long-term unemployment extracts a segment out of the labour force and isolates it economically and socially. Long exemptions from labour life and labour environment lead to losses of professional qualification
The negative effects of long-term unemployment are rather relevant when the model of management of economy is being changed as this is currently the case in Eastern Europe. The mechanisms of labour market in the region are still evolving simultaneously with the structural adjustment. This brings about difficulties in the adaptation of economic actors to long-term unemployment.
i don't want to judge this guy, cause when i was out of work i looked around and got plenty of calls but in interviews i was told i was "over qualified" i said im not here to use my degree, they said well we need someone who can be with us for a long period of time, you have more chances of landing a good job and leaving us, i said obviously not mothefucka, im here, they said "security!!!"
@OpCharlieBravo Damn haha... You know, I have a 25-yr-old friend who has a degree, and she can't even get a job at Target. She lives with her mom in a tiny space (I live with my dad in a tiny space too). It's just impossible for lots of young people like us to even get ahead in life, and afford basic adult necessities, like get my own place. I'm 24 and living like a teen at home without even my own room. I'm lucky though, cus if not for what I do have, I'd be homeless, riding my bike.
HERE IS WHY THIS GUY CANT GET WORK OR A JOB ITS BECAUSE 6 MONTH RULE ALOT OF EMPLOYERS WONT HIRE YOU IF YOU ARE OUT OF WORK THAT LONG.ANOTHER THING IS THEY TEND TO HIRE COLLEGE HIGHSCHOOL OVER SOMEON THAT ISNT IN SCHOOL .THEY ARE PAYING THERE WAY THRU SCHOOL THEY GOT FIRST DIBS ON THE JOBS.I KNOW I CANT GET ANYTHING AT ALL I TRIED FOR 2 YEARS AND COUNTING.IM ABLE BODIED 40 YEARS OLD BUT THEY ALWAYS HIRE THE YOUNGER OVER ME SO IDK .
@Network126 Skyrim is the 2011 Version of Zelda, Medival Video Game. Very Deep & Intense. Very Long , Look, Have you thought of a new career, back to college. I did, I am ok now. Peace . I also SUB.
I feel you on this. I live in Michigan which the economy is shit. I have a degree from UM and EMU but can't find shit. It have experienced evrything you have:discouragement, feelings of being left out due to not having any money to do shit. I did just receive an interview but the pay is shit and the area has a high cost of living. Good luck my friend from someone going through the same shit
im tired of getting turned down for jobs i can get a few interviews but they just ask weird questions and send me out the door never call me back.then i call them and they can't tell me why I was not hired.in the 1990s i could get a job anywhere but now nothing becasue the unemployment rate doubled since then.
@inconvenientruth1 Your Dad would be right. There was a Country song in the 80's called " Take This Job & Shove It ! " cause jons were Everywhere, cause everything was still made int eh USA back then ! LOL
5 years without a job with 90K in school loans (3 degrees, one Ivy, and a teaching cert), and cant even get a quickie mart job. Thankfully our OLD cars were paid off, but we are now in the process of losing our house, $1,600 in private pay medical every month (due to loss of medical with job and absolute need for same due to chronic medical from injury, thus reason why we are losing our house), have now wiped out our ENTIRE retirement, so this IS real. We are at WAY more than 9% unemployment.
I feel ya i am still looking for a full time job, very discouraging. but you have a good personality, hang in there, the sadness will be over. but i am curious as to what is the longest amount of time you have stayed at one job? I still don't have my own car and living at home 20,000 dollars in debt to student loans
The damage has already been done, some permanent. All the businesses that went under, all the people who commited suicide from being unemployed with no future, crime sprees, need I go on?
Even if the economy "improved" tomorrow, you or I or anyone else still wouldn't get hired. It's going to take a few decades to fix the mess our world is in. Our entire society, maybe even world, needs a gigantic reset. Who's gonna do it though?
Companies are hiring people from the middle east and asian countries....which should be a crime. Our government has sold the US people down the river.
DUDE I AM A MASTER.......... I MOVED OUT OF STRONG BEACH!!! I LIVE NOW IN CORONA!!!! LBC IS OVER POPULATED BRO. FOR EVERY 1 JOB THERES 30 CANDIDATES ONLY 3 EDUCATED ONES WHO WILL THEY CHOOSE.. CHECK OUT MY OTHER CHANNEL CALIFORNIAMARCOS!!!
@marcos562 Well, I live in LB because that's the only place I had to go. I couldn't find a job in Pomona (where I spent my entire life), so I had to come crash in my dad's dining room. I can't afford to go anywhere :/
Most peoples job are their identity, When I was out of work I signed up with a temp agency so I would have some where to go everyday. The money sucked but it was a lot easier to find a job if you are already working.
The problem with most people is they get on unemployment and get into a rut . A lot of the kinds of work they used to do is not comming back for years, so they need to reinvent themselves and move on .
it sucks being young - but at least you have a family - i have been on my own without a family still i has 16, - family is more important then making money in the long term -
You said exactly how I feel. I've applied on craigs list and all I would get is people trying to get me to do surveys. It's really hard now to get anything meaningful.
It really is hard finding a job in this economy. As of now there are 5 uneployed workers to 1 job opening. I suggest becoming an entrepreneur, start your own business. I'm working on growing my own health nutrition business. I'm share this same opportunity everyday. Leave me a message if you would like some info... goldprospector218.lf@gmail.com
Average IQ is not highly intelligent. I hear people say this stuff everyday and I have to remind them. There are people who can remember 317 numbers after reading them only once. Problem with americans is they think they're smarter than they actually are. Sorry bro. Not that you aren't smart but just sayin'.
And yes, customer service is everything in this economy. It's the new norm.
i get people calling ME every week atleast once a week. I have the talent they need. I don't send anything out. Problem is you are lacking the skills to compete in the marketplace. Sorry to say this bro, but you need to look closer at your resume for a new angle. Sometimes it's the way you position yourself. you may think you are intelligent but there are people 7x smarter than you out there. It's time to face reality and rethink your approach. Take the ego out of it.
@TruthSeekerGodisLove Sorry to hear that. I got lucky recently with a min wage job that's about 23 miles away from me. It's sad to consider that "lucky", but with the economy the way it is these days, I'm extremely fortunate to even have that. I just hope my little '84 Tempo holds up, with all that daily abuse. It's already been out of commission twice recently, and I had to work on it myself to fix it and get back on the road. Video update coming soon...
@TruthSeekerGodisLove i feel your pain 3 years now and nothin I apply everywhere basic crap jobs and nothing.if I do happen to get an interview all they do is ask me stupid questions and the interview goes well ,then they boot me out the door not a word no call back nothing.maybe they just hire idiots like at burger king or retail anymore .I consider myself to be fairly intelligent yet they wont hire me to flip burgers or make change wtf!
@TruthSeekerGodisLove have you seen the type of people they actually hire at these minimum wage jobs.this guy is way to intelligent, they aren't going to hire him at no fast food pizza delivery or retail type jobs becasue they want and hire inferior idiots robotic mindless machines to troll around and do the same repitisoius crap over and over .thats the kind of people they hire.I have been on countless interviews they say they will call me and never do common courtesy is a thing of the past!!
@TruthSeekerGodisLove yep people assume you are lazy if they are working and your not or they think there is soething wrong with you . interviews are getting dumb and dumber like the movie . I mean they ask some stupid questions that dont pertain to the job.
@TruthSeekerGodisLove you should try CMAP in hollister. i know some fool who volunteers there. he could probably hook u up with some credits. msg me if interested
@TruthSeekerGodisLove do you have bad credit or make a car payment.alot of employers are only hiring people that would stimulate the economy you know make payments on a new car buy a house pay you crdit cards on time .if your not they may not hire you because you are not going to stimulate the economy.you need to see the bigger picture.
Network126............I know what you are talking about, can truly identify with you. I don't know..........people who I know who had to start small businesses for themselves would only tell me "If you can't find work, then you MAKE work" They simply had to do their OWN thing in order to survive, basically.
@thesiouxgoddess Yeah, that's the sad way things are these days. I got lucky recently and picked up some work in LA. It's a bit more than I want to abuse my 27 year-old car everyday for minimum wage, but it's money. I haven't seen a steady stream of money coming in for a LONG time. I'm working on rebuilding my savings to survive the next unemployment spell. Hopefully they'll keep me onboard though. I've been killing myself trying to impress them to keep myself hired.
try a railroad.im retireed .ive done several occupations with them .its generaly crappy work.many start out on call 24/7 rain cold heat.it has gottrn worse in 30 years,it has high high turnover.it seams they try to fire you the minute they hire you.trainmen is wher the high turnover .yea its a online process to get an interview for most rr..i found a transit buss driver has a high turnover too. laugh if you may but my 16 year old grandson ot times gets jobs at home depot along with the IMRants
@glassandroid Yeah, I totally agree about WTC7. A building doesn't just drop straight down into a neat little pile because it had a few small fires on a few floors. It's the smoking gun of the elite.
As for "CAL STATE RIP OFF BEACH", I've never even been there. I'm self-taught in the stuff I know. I've never even stepped foot inside a classroom since graduating high school. Some people give me shit for it, but I'm still kinda trying to figure my life out and get on my feet.
In the same boat as you. Years of experience as an accountant. Have worked at some of the top accounting firms in Los Angeles and can't seem to get a job offer. It's gotten to the point where it's easier to get into an ivy league school than to get a job offer.
@swisscitroen Yep... it really sucks. There's like nothing out there. It's extremely frustrating and depressing. I was just joining the workforce, basically. I was learning and gaining experience, while figuring out what career path I'd like to take, and then... POOF! No more jobs! I never even got to be self-sufficient yet. Now I'm living in the dining room indefinitely, with no job in sight, so I can finally have my own place. I'll be 24 in Jan 2012. Hopefully I won't still be single too. FML
Federal government jobs dot us , PLEAE go there.. There are many jobs for IT folks!! It is an arduos process, but I know 4 people who have gottne jobs thru this legit site.
What the hell is wrong with you?? I found lots of computer tech jobs in california!! it is called monster.com or DICE.COM! I just think you like making videos instead of really finding a computer job.
@vanvanbluz Tried working for one during summer of '10, some gov stimulus thing didn't go through, and they later went out of business. Tried applying for Geek Squad (as I mentioned in the video). Tried working at another shop, (as I also mentioned). My car is older than me, and isn't very reliable. I can't really venture too far.
I can't believe that a computer tech can't find a job, maybe you need an A+ certification duh! Even not so great computer technicians can find work here! Where the hell are you???
@vanvanbluz I've been searching for all kinds of jobs, not just computer tech work. That's just one of my main skills that I try getting a job in every now and then. Lately though, I decided to just hire myself as a tech, and I've been fixing random computers around town (I live in Long Beach CA). It's not consistent, and doesn't make me enough to move out of the dining room, but at least I make some cash here and there to sustain my basic necessities, without killing my dwindling savings.
@Gardensandcabins I'm inclined to believe you, about it being by design. I'm always seeing Obama on TV, talking about getting people back to work, and unemployment, and jobs jobs jobs. Where? When? Don't feel too bad, I got a rejection note in the mail from... *drumroll* ...TARGET! Epic fail. Fucking stupid ass economy. I want to move out of the dining room already, and into my own apartment. What women want a 23-year old man who lives in a dining room? *sigh*
Hey man I feel you being unemployed sucks balls I having been starting to find a job since january i having even find one job If i was you i will appy for finacial aid it just feel so pointless to look for a job and the only people that are hiring is sales I hope 2012 that thinks do be a whole lot better than what they are now
I hate it when people ask and ask about if you've tried jobs and you already have. My dentist does that to me every time I see her. I'm unemployed, I hate those "tests", I've looked for work, and it's just tough to get hired. I gave up after a while. I think the unemployed are given a bad reputation, adn I think a lot of people are ignorant and do not understand what the unemployed are really going through. I'm not a "hobo" or a "lazy moocher", I'm a HUMAN BEING.
@aliasgirl47 Yep... that's pretty much exactly how I feel. I've given up looking for work completely now, and decided to start repairing computers around town. It seems like it's the only way I'll make any money to survive in this shitty economy.
LOL my dentist kinda asked the same nosy questions when I was in college looking for a job. Im glad im self employed cause I dont feel like a bum anymore.
You just described me and my situation almost to a "T", now I'm more depressed. Been 3 years now for me, I gave up looking awhile ago. As mentioned already, it's not what you know, but who, and I don't know anyone either, and have no social life and feel like an outcast. I've had people tell me (also) to start my own PC company, but you know how that goes. If (big IF) the economy improves, we wont get jobs because we've been unemployed too long, so there is that...
@Yankee802 Yeah, there's lots of us out there in the same or similar situations. I recently said "fuck it all!" and gave up on competing with 500 other people for an $8/h job, and started advertising computer repair like crazy around my city. I didn't really want to do it, mainly because I live in the dining room, and don't really have any room to store or work on computers, plus I have a 27 year-old car.. but I had to do it. It was either sit around depressed and poor, or try something.
you should pay someone to put flyers on neibhorhood houses. Also give out business cards to anyone you talk to casually (hairstylist, people you stop at the street) and anyone you repair your computer for.
Believe it or not there are still some jobs in the east coast area, I mean mostly professional jobs. If you know someone out here try and connect with them because California is a lost cause :-(
@EWOKCAD Yeah haha... I'm thinking of subjects for more videos, plus I started putting a lot of energy into trying to get my home computer repair business running a little, so at least I won't be so poor and depressed. I've got a couple local customers, and made a little over $100 so far. That's $100 that won't be coming out of my shrinking savings account. All good.. haha! I'm probably not gonna make nearly as much as a real and steady job, but at least I can be comfortable and make something.
@Network126 What happened with your last real job? Did you not qualify for unemployment? How did you save up enough money to live off for nearly 3 years?
Sounds like you live in California. If you are serious about finding a good job, first thing is get the heck out of California. That state is mired in out of control gov spending and regulations. Do some research on the net and pick some states with the lowest unemployment levels. Check out Wyoming, N. Dakota., Texas. States with good growth. May not be your ideal state but give it a try. Move there and then start looking. Your search will be a ton easier than in CA. Good luck.
@casienwhey I agree with this...head to N. Dakota or Texas. CA will get worse before it gets better. The world has changed...not everyone has been informed.
@rextony22 Yeah, unfortunately I don't really know anybody out here. I grew up 40 miles away in Pomona, and had to move to Long Beach with family in June 2010. I'm pretty alone out here.
Get on Craigs List and start your own in home PC service. You can pick up the PC also and take it home and repair it and bring it back. Just an idea. Then put the asshole you worked for out of business because you have lower overhead.
@Lockemeister I already did that when I lived in Pomona. I didn't make enough money to live on, and it ended up being more trouble than it was worth. I am trying to do it again now a little bit though, just because I'm desperate to make even a little bit of money now. This time I'd have to make it mainly house-calls, since I live in the dining room with family, and no longer have room to work on and store computers. I'm also not too crazy about CL, since there's too many competitors who flag me.
@NixxerJixxerWixxer Just wait until a week turns into a month, then when a month turns into 6 months, then two years. I hope you have better luck than me. I'm literally a different person now, due to being unemployed and depressed for so long; always too poor to do anything. I'm trying to make my own work, by advertising computer repair around my city. It seems like it's the only way I'll make any money, and be a little happier. Gotta make it work, even though I live in a dining room.
@Network126 Yeah, been there, done that...now its de ja vu time once again, this is my second lay-off...been out of work for over a year prior to my last job, really painful, considering that 4 years ago, I could literally buy all the cool electronic gadgets around ...the only way to forget this misery that i'm in is to sleep or listen to Rock music, well good luck Dude...I'm not American by the way, I'm living in Europe... considering to return to my homeland soon , God Bless
@KissJewels Yeah, my dad put himself through school, just working part-time at a trophy factory. Back in my dad's days, if you needed a job, you could just go out anywhere and get one, or two, or even three if you could handle it. These days, people struggle for months or even years to get hired even at Walmart. It's terrible.
@Network126 I agree with you Brian. Before my father in law passed he was looking for work and companies did alot of age discrimination. He said that he was ordering a burger and he asked if they were hiring and they told him he had to go online to apply...WTH...like really McDonald's??? What ever happened to paper applications. I hate this crap of being unemployed!!!
@anthonyw20747 Yeah, everywhere has online applications now. You have to get on your computer, create your sign-in and password, spend 40+ minutes filling out your info and answering questions, and then never get called back. It's the same as banging your head against a wall. It forces us to literally go insane. We keep doing the same thing (submitting job apps) and expecting a different result (getting hired). The definition of insanity - But what else do we do?
@Network126 The only thing I have learned to do is keep going and try to network and meet other people so you can have some type of social life other then just your family (although you love them). It has been hard to really get any help from people I know (friends) because they may talk a good game about where they work and the pull they have but really they DON'T have any pull whatsoever!
Yeah, about a million people came to compete for 60,000 positions. That means that in the end, at least about 194,000 people went back home as McDonald's rejects.
Welcome. The unemployment virus is in you system, and your changing. Your friends and family don't understand these changes that have happened since you've been bitten...
"But you've changed Billy...your just not the same anymore...."
Sound familiar? You hear that horde moaning "joooobs jooooobbbbbbssss" softly in the wind?
The horde grows. Soon it will be us vs them. We're zombies now, and eventually, when we have to 'feed'...........
Wise up.

Job hunting is akin to the dating scene.
The second you're in a relationship, girls will want you.
They can either smell the confidence on you or they figure if a good looking girl chose you, you must be a person worth having.
Who wants a guy that no girl wanted for a year?

@Network126 Anyways I think I'm going to be back in school this September for Nursing...healthcare seems to be the only career that's going forward. Try telling a nurse that they have to work for free or work unpaid over-time. It simply isn't happening. Luckily right now I work a throw-a-way job at a call centre to save up some money for school though...so my situation may not be as bleak as some others currently out there...it's just a little sad I'm spending the majority of my 20's in school.
moecool 1 week ago

DocSnaxx 1 week ago
@DocSnaxx Yup, I agree. They're so quick to judge, and rarely think about the circumstances behind the situation. It's assumed that just because someone isn't doing well, they must be losers. Everything is so upside down - There just aren't enough jobs for everyone, and corporations/banks have all the wealth.

You know I hate the places that fucking ask for all these skills, requirements ...etc. and then its like $8 an hour wtf? These employers are seriously taking advantage of all the skilled ppl that are umemployed..
dontshootmesanta 3 weeks ago
@dontshootmesanta Yeah, I've run into that too - I should have covered that in the video! They do it because they can - It's an employer's market. They can ask for any requirements they want, and pay as little as they want, because they will still find people who will eagerly take the work anyway. This is creating tough competition for even minimum wage jobs, which is why I'm living in my dad's dining room at 24. I was working in an office for a bit at $8/h, mostly doing skilled Photoshop work.
Network126 3 weeks ago
@dontshootmesanta I'm not really seeing any light at the end of the tunnel, either. I feel like I'm always going to live in the dining room, never knowing what it's like to live a "normal" adult life, and have my own place. It's a real downer, because I have nothing financially to even offer women. Having a job brings money, social identity, confidence, and ability to hold down a place and basic living necessities. I can't even experience doing all that because I'm too poor and can't get ahead.
Network126 3 weeks ago
@dontshootmesanta I drive an '84 Ford Tempo, which I'm always working on, to keep it running. I usually don't drive very far, since it's a 28 year-old car, with mostly original parts. I'm lucky to even have what I have. My main transportation for years, used to be my $159 Schwinn that I bought at Target. Even used it countless times for grocery trips, since it was all there was. I'm glad I have my clunky old car. Just hope it keeps running!
Network126 3 weeks ago
@dontshootmesanta Hell yeah, I was doing office work that involved a lot of Photoshopping (skilled work), and I was only getting $8/h too. Now I'm making nothing, because business slowed down and they couldn't afford to keep me, even though they liked me and I was always fixing technical issues with all their computers. Life in this economy sucks.
Network126 2 weeks ago
@dontshootmesanta How are they taking advantage of people? If you don't like the pay dont take the job. No one is forcing you to work for that firm. If you want more than $8 an hour you need an education. Should have paid attention in high school my friend.

I fix computers on my bed here and there to survive.

no body wants to hear a borring story of your medi-o-cer skills. explain how you saved the company 10million dollars last year in lost prevention. if you dont know what im talking about google the term and make up a story that fits your trade. my motto is....yes i do have experience! 5years to be exact. 5 years in what mr. potential employee? .......my mental response.."i got 5 years experience in whatever your hiring for" and then I make something up on the spot.

@buffpuff80 - Lying to get a job does not help your cause in the long run. Do you enjoy jumping from Job to Job? Quit acting like your strategy works, because it doesn't. If you want to build good working relationships you need to be honest in all you do.

Just to let you know how easy it is to get a job in a down economy, im gunna brag for a min. Between 2009~12 ive had 4 different jobs that payed above 16 an hr. 3 of those jobs I had no experience but when I left the interview, not only did I tell the employer I had the experience but I left them believing I did.
buffpuff80 1 month ago
and I quit all of them cause I didnt like the job. Plus I know for a fact I will get another job. I just dont know yet what I want to do. As long as I have options to jump from job to job, nothing is really stopping me. Its not illegal to quit on ppl.
buffpuff80 1 month ago
You need to learn, ppl that are interviewing you only know as much as you tell them, and are gullable as the next idiot walking down the street. And when you get hired your alwys going to get trained so it never really mattered that you have experience in the first place. Does it? well I hope you guys who dont have a job and read this, grow a pare of testicles and claim your stake in the job world. You had a reason to grype but now you have some knowledge.
buffpuff80 1 month ago
If this advise seems a little hard to do to an employer, try it on a craigslist job first. before the major company you really want in on. Apply for a job that is some thing you dont even want. so if you stumble during your trial runs you dont even care. And most likely if you dont even care, your going to be more confident, and youll careless about what the interviee thinks and you'll perfom better. Right? Good luck!

The larger and longer the unemployment, the deeper and more complicated are the social and economic problems it causes insociety. The existence of stable long-term unemployment extracts a segment out of the labour force and isolates it economically and socially. Long exemptions from labour life and labour environment lead to losses of professional qualification
geiner66 2 months ago
The negative effects of long-term unemployment are rather relevant when the model of management of economy is being changed as this is currently the case in Eastern Europe. The mechanisms of labour market in the region are still evolving simultaneously with the structural adjustment. This brings about difficulties in the adaptation of economic actors to long-term unemployment.
geiner66 2 months ago
i don't want to judge this guy, cause when i was out of work i looked around and got plenty of calls but in interviews i was told i was "over qualified" i said im not here to use my degree, they said well we need someone who can be with us for a long period of time, you have more chances of landing a good job and leaving us, i said obviously not mothefucka, im here, they said "security!!!"

It's gotten to the point where it's easier to get into an ivy league school than to get a job offer.
swisscitroen 5 months ago
@swisscitroen Yep... it really sucks. There's like nothing out there. It's extremely frustrating and depressing. I was just joining the workforce, basically. I was learning and gaining experience, while figuring out what career path I'd like to take, and then... POOF! No more jobs! I never even got to be self-sufficient yet. Now I'm living in the dining room indefinitely, with no job in sight, so I can finally have my own place. I'll be 24 in Jan 2012. Hopefully I won't still be single too. FML

What the hell is wrong with you?? I found lots of computer tech jobs in california!! it is called monster.com or DICE.COM! I just think you like making videos instead of really finding a computer job.
vanvanbluz 5 months ago
@vanvanbluz Tried working for one during summer of '10, some gov stimulus thing didn't go through, and they later went out of business. Tried applying for Geek Squad (as I mentioned in the video). Tried working at another shop, (as I also mentioned). My car is older than me, and isn't very reliable. I can't really venture too far.
Network126 5 months ago
@Network126
Dont listen to that guy he is full of shit. There weren't even any good tech jobs in california during the boom years let alone now !!!!
EWOKCAD 5 months ago
I can't believe that a computer tech can't find a job, maybe you need an A+ certification duh! Even not so great computer technicians can find work here! Where the hell are you???
vanvanbluz 5 months ago

*sigh*

I'm not a "hobo" or a "lazy moocher", I'm a HUMAN BEING.
aliasgirl47 6 months ago
@aliasgirl47 Yep... that's pretty much exactly how I feel. I've given up looking for work completely now, and decided to start repairing computers around town. It seems like it's the only way I'll make any money to survive in this shitty economy.

@aliasgirl47
LOL my dentist kinda asked the same nosy questions when I was in college looking for a job. Im glad im self employed cause I dont feel like a bum anymore.
EWOKCAD 5 months ago
You just described me and my situation almost to a "T", now I'm more depressed. Been 3 years now for me, I gave up looking awhile ago. As mentioned already, it's not what you know, but who, and I don't know anyone either, and have no social life and feel like an outcast. I've had people tell me (also) to start my own PC company, but you know how that goes. If (big IF) the economy improves, we wont get jobs because we've been unemployed too long, so there is that...
Yankee802 6 months ago
@Yankee802 Yeah, there's lots of us out there in the same or similar situations. I recently said "fuck it all!" and gave up on competing with 500 other people for an $8/h job, and started advertising computer repair like crazy around my city. I didn't really want to do it, mainly because I live in the dining room, and don't really have any room to store or work on computers, plus I have a 27 year-old car.. but I had to do it. It was either sit around depressed and poor, or try something.
-Brian
Network126 6 months ago
@Network126
you should pay someone to put flyers on neibhorhood houses. Also give out business cards to anyone you talk to casually (hairstylist, people you stop at the street) and anyone you repair your computer for.
EWOKCAD 5 months ago
Believe it or not there are still some jobs in the east coast area, I mean mostly professional jobs. If you know someone out here try and connect with them because California is a lost cause :-(
Zguitar1 6 months ago
Did you get a job yet? j/k man. Hey no videos lately.......
EWOKCAD 6 months ago
@EWOKCAD Yeah haha... I'm thinking of subjects for more videos, plus I started putting a lot of energy into trying to get my home computer repair business running a little, so at least I won't be so poor and depressed. I've got a couple local customers, and made a little over $100 so far. That's $100 that won't be coming out of my shrinking savings account. All good.. haha! I'm probably not gonna make nearly as much as a real and steady job, but at least I can be comfortable and make something.
Network126 6 months ago
@Network126 What happened with your last real job? Did you not qualify for unemployment? How did you save up enough money to live off for nearly 3 years?
sean1256 6 months ago
@EWOKCAD
Yeah i think this guy should just keep talking about his life and the economy. Its more interesting to me than doing Demcad style themed videos.
GypsyHustled 5 months ago
Sounds like you live in California. If you are serious about finding a good job, first thing is get the heck out of California. That state is mired in out of control gov spending and regulations. Do some research on the net and pick some states with the lowest unemployment levels. Check out Wyoming, N. Dakota., Texas. States with good growth. May not be your ideal state but give it a try. Move there and then start looking. Your search will be a ton easier than in CA. Good luck.
casienwhey 6 months ago
@casienwhey I agree with this...head to N. Dakota or Texas. CA will get worse before it gets better. The world has changed...not everyone has been informed.

im sorry man.
rextony22 6 months ago
Get on Craigs List and start your own in home PC service. You can pick up the PC also and take it home and repair it and bring it back. Just an idea. Then put the asshole you worked for out of business because you have lower overhead.
.
Lockemeister 6 months ago
@Lockemeister I already did that when I lived in Pomona. I didn't make enough money to live on, and it ended up being more trouble than it was worth. I am trying to do it again now a little bit though, just because I'm desperate to make even a little bit of money now. This time I'd have to make it mainly house-calls, since I live in the dining room with family, and no longer have room to work on and store computers. I'm also not too crazy about CL, since there's too many competitors who flag me.
Network126 6 months ago
I feel you dude...Im unemployed for a week now...so depressing
NixxerJixxerWixxer 6 months ago
@NixxerJixxerWixxer Just wait until a week turns into a month, then when a month turns into 6 months, then two years. I hope you have better luck than me. I'm literally a different person now, due to being unemployed and depressed for so long; always too poor to do anything. I'm trying to make my own work, by advertising computer repair around my city. It seems like it's the only way I'll make any money, and be a little happier. Gotta make it work, even though I live in a dining room.
-Brian
Network126 6 months ago
@Network126 Yeah, been there, done that...now its de ja vu time once again, this is my second lay-off...been out of work for over a year prior to my last job, really painful, considering that 4 years ago, I could literally buy all the cool electronic gadgets around ...the only way to forget this misery that i'm in is to sleep or listen to Rock music, well good luck Dude...I'm not American by the way, I'm living in Europe... considering to return to my homeland soon , God Bless

KissJewels 6 months ago
@KissJewels Yeah, my dad put himself through school, just working part-time at a trophy factory. Back in my dad's days, if you needed a job, you could just go out anywhere and get one, or two, or even three if you could handle it. These days, people struggle for months or even years to get hired even at Walmart. It's terrible.
-Brian
Network126 6 months ago
@Network126 I agree with you Brian. Before my father in law passed he was looking for work and companies did alot of age discrimination. He said that he was ordering a burger and he asked if they were hiring and they told him he had to go online to apply...WTH...like really McDonald's??? What ever happened to paper applications. I hate this crap of being unemployed!!!
anthonyw20747 6 months ago
@anthonyw20747 Yeah, everywhere has online applications now. You have to get on your computer, create your sign-in and password, spend 40+ minutes filling out your info and answering questions, and then never get called back. It's the same as banging your head against a wall. It forces us to literally go insane. We keep doing the same thing (submitting job apps) and expecting a different result (getting hired). The definition of insanity - But what else do we do?
-Brian
Network126 6 months ago
@Network126 The only thing I have learned to do is keep going and try to network and meet other people so you can have some type of social life other then just your family (although you love them). It has been hard to really get any help from people I know (friends) because they may talk a good game about where they work and the pull they have but really they DON'T have any pull whatsoever!
anthonyw20747 6 months ago
Hey,Brian, just wanting to know, How much can a person earn per hour working for McDonald's in California?
I heard there was about a million applicants showed up at the McDonald's job fair....
MrJackassjerry 6 months ago
@MrJackassjerry Minimum wage here is $8/h.
Yeah, about a million people came to compete for 60,000 positions. That means that in the end, at least about 194,000 people went back home as McDonald's rejects.
Back to the job hunt sites and food stamp line!

Your a zombie now.
