  • I asked Doug McCombs what this video was about when they played in Arbor...he said even HE had no idea.

  • Anybody else notice the 1911 button? Was that the band or was that Youtube?

  • 1:15 best part

  • lol they actually threw at each other lol thats dedication! n it worked great i love this clip

  • Im high right now

  • This would be so perfect for a new Cowboy Bebop movie soundtrack.. or live action movie

  • Fuck, I was one day I was thinking about a math rock song inspired by westminters quarters.

    LOL. SOmeone did it.

  • tortoise killed god!!!

  • great shit!!!!!! can you feel the ZAPPA influence?!?!?!

  • @rule62pete I was thinking the same thing. You beat me to it. Sounds like Zappa rose from the grave and penned it. Great stuff.

  • Epic.

  • how can one say this is lame? To each their own i guess....

  • lame

  • @G0kujen ha ur lame watch these guys do it live

  • I think "it's all around you" is the BEST album of tortoise...don't you people think so?

  • At first listen I thought this was a improvised version of the standard "Bell chimes" - you may here on church or Clock towers.

    First time Tortoise listener..... Cool.

  • thanks for uploading this, been looking for it for a while!

  • Just met three of the guys from Tortoise at the gig in Ann Arbor the other night. Incredibly friendly, and down to earth. Music like this can only come from hearts like that. Screw the critics, I like 'It's All Around You'.

  • yeah man, agree... music so thoughfull, so introspective and complex can only come from a mind thats above all the mediatic nonsense

  • this music is so amazing! music like this makes life beautiful.

  • Trippy... I like!

  • first time i see this video_

    amazing...

will check out theit music asap!

just love it how one can find new stuff like this and so elevated__

    luv*

  • I fucking hate musical critics. Everyone is giving bad reviews of the album "It's all Around You" just because they didn't reinvent rock music once again with this album. That's just unfair. First I want to see PitchforkMedia's reviewers or Scaruffi or various others creating Music like this and then I'll accept criticisms like that.

The least I can do in front of a masterpiece like this (and especially in front of that incredible bassline in 6/4 at 1:20!) is to bow my head to these geniuses.

  • I agree. One can wonder how many listens a critic actually give an album before reviewing. I still discover new things on this album, approximately 4 years after its release. I've only encountered very few albums that offer that same quality.

  • How many listens? I'll tell you: a quick spin. And that's that. Otherwise such shallow reviews (both positive and negative) can't be explained.

Rolling Stone gave 3 stars to this album, a positive review. But it also gave 3 and half stars to the Fall Out Boy album "Folie a Deux". Tortoise's album review is very brief, while the Fall Out Boy one is at least four times as long, even if there's indeniably much more to say about a Tortoise album than a Fall Out Boy one.

    Draw a conclusion from this.

  • ~masterpiece~

  • un supervoto da parte mia, bello davvero!

  • Feels good man

  • Great!

  • absolutely amazing!

  • I've never heard them before, but their awesome. Fun, beautiful, interesting and unique all at the same time.

  • Brilliant, Inimitable, Tortoise.

  • popcorn sleepover

  • I've seen them perform live, cool band.

  • Check out the band Man Man, they are also with Raven House Ltd. management. They have boundless energy that flows from their music!

  • This makes me hate life

  • Never heard of them before but pretty cool! Thanks!

  • love

  • el primer tema que oigo de esta banda y no esta nada mal.

  • esta bien ...mmmm

...desperately try to put in speech the meanings that stem freely from the visions of artists

  • Associates in Science, the same dude who directed "A Decade Under the Influence" by taking back Sunday, and Elefant's "Misfit". Pretty groundbreaking videos.

  • excellent work!

  • wow..love tortoise..great video

  • In the DVD for Lazarus Taxon, there's a great video of them playing this song live in a small room. I keep looking for it online.

  • YEAH. It's so good. Really intense.

  • I posted it a couple of days ago, enjoy.

  • Simples e criativo. A música é ótima e fazem um belo conjunto.

  • That was fantastic.

  • i had that monkey when i was a wee lad.

  • Sounds like Zappa at some points. I wonder if that was purposeful. Sounds great, anyhow. Love this band.

  • soft...
