Wouldn't it be great if the entire article (see video description) was read out loud? Reading is faster than listening, but I like to give my eyes a break.
@catapaultpenguin So you demonstrated your ability to read wikipedia or just making stuff up?here is the algorithm This robot is a creation by itself to demontrate steps of evolving
oh well i guess that proves it. evolution is right. well of course it is, thats not even debatable. the computer can see problems and change itself to fix them. t hats how evolution works right? sounds close enough for me. lets say that that is what evolution is and further convince people that evolution is true beyond a shadow of a doubt.
@Mrmtjones Not exactly. Evolution sims literally change the configuration of the virtual robot each generation until eventually it has evolved a robot that reaches the goal set for it inside the evosim.
Google 3DVCE for one such program. (3D Virtual Creature Evolution by Stellar Alchemy)
You have a tendency of making videos with so little factual information that they are close to useless waste of time.
If you think that they give people the urge to know more, and use you as source for that, you are mistaken. The "bait"/academic level of information have to be a bit larger for that.
@coolman9999uk The exact same way your useless comment will. Why do so many people insist that ALL scientists should be biological scientists working towards a cure for cancer?!
@russelljenkinsfearn "other robots, like this one, needs to be tweaked for hours to reach their destination". Instead of using the evolutionary algorithms you can tweak the software and timings yourself.
It was not the clearest reference to a "change of topic" i have heard, infact it was a little confusing.
@z3253304 I swear there's one of these comments on every video. Not every single avenue of science needs to directly lead to curing cancer. Random example: Galileo discovering that the Earth goes around the sun didn't help cure cancer, either, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have done it.
sigh, i wish these vids went for a decent amount of time and had intelligent people who could discuss the content instead of an over-voice who reads of a piece of paper.
@AnAtheisticAbomb This vid in particular left me feeling the same way. I saw moving images and heard a voice but don't think i am any more knowledgeable then before watching :(
@AnAtheisticAbomb unfortunately newscientist is reduced to little more than cliche headlines and meaningless sensationalist articles these days... even in print. i have unsubscribed to the print edition a long time ago, it contains no more science than your average consumable discovery channel lineup.
so it makes sense that their videos are equally inadequate.
@AnAtheisticAbomb "...wish these vids went for a decent amount of time and had intelligent people who could discuss the content..."
I'll thumb that up. They could have talked about genetic algorithms and evolutionary programming or linked something in the underbar. This video only makes sense to me because I know the subject. It doesn't tell the uninformed how to learn more.
@AnAtheisticAbomb .. "i wish these vids went for a decent amount of time"
You could get hold of a copy of newscientist (comes out thursdays where I live in the UK) or see whether articles relating to specific videos are on the newscientist site.
It is not longer vids, but it might give some more depth occasionally.
@AnAtheisticAbomb I think you'll find that most of these are just illustrations for articles. All the information and detail is in the New Scientist Magazine and on the website linked in the info bar.
@AnAtheisticAbomb Donchu mean "sigh i wish these vids had intelligent people discussing it in the comments instead of being insolent 12-year-old twats who can't even read a single sheet of paper"?
