I don't see how something like this would be useful. Asimo can climb stairs and in the future will be capable of walking over uneven terrain. Ballbot will never be capable of such things, so whats the point?
You're right, it's not as mobile as Asimo or other walking robots that can go up and down stairs, but it could still be very useful in many environments, as in any house or building where it only needs to be on a single floor, or in any building with an elevator. As Hollis said in the video, it's much less complicated than walking robots such as Asimo (meaning it COSTS LESS) and is "skinnier" so it's actually better suited to the limited domain in which it can operate.

Why does every robot need to be useful? Every experiment helps us learn more about machine intelligence and mechanics.
