Mary's real name is Armstrong. She lives on a farm in Alberta these days. If you can, check out the recently-made doc "Bloodied but Unbowed", which has interviews with her (and most other original Vancouver punks). In fact, she's in the trailer, just Youtube search "Bloodied... and watch.
An absolutely live performance. This band was tight. the dancers are Justine, Mary Jo and Agita. Visit the bloodied but unbowed movie website. Massive amounts of great pics and clips.
Poor Art Bergman, I guess things got too much for him as an artist and he dropped out, least according to the Bloodied But Unbowed documentary. Sad, really, I guess the scene eats up the most talented!!!
Art Bergman where are you? This was a Vancouver classic and still is! This came out late 70's yes? say about 1978 or so. I wonder if Larry still has the album? LOL
I had the EP of this. So long ago...I was a Soundproof fan too. Ditto...
One of those songs that's a little too catchy for its own good - singing "Let's go to fuckin' Hawaii!" was not something you did in public in 1979 unless you were very brave.
Saw The Young Canadians at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver way back in 1980. What a time to be 20 years old! Also on the bill were other groups called Black Flag, Tin Twist and another group whose name escapes me. The reason it was so memorable was the strange stage arrangements and new wave/punk styles like checkered pants, skinny ties, thin wrap-around sunglasses and flaring orange hair, etc. I especially remember Tin Twist for that new wave look and an ironing board for a keyboard stand.
I think I still have the T-shirt. I definitely still have the record (12" EP). And "Soundproof"...watched it almost religiously. I think I saw YC open for XTC. Maybe not. It's so long ago.
The YC's were great. Art is like Neil Young of Vancouver (on Hastings & Main). It is amazing to see Jim Bescott (who died so tragically at the Safeway accident). A great band to grow up to. Art is a fabulous person who needs to write a book!! He loves reading and that's why his lyrics are so good!!! :-)
I loved Soundproof! Used to watch every weekend in high school. Found out about such great music. The clash, Stranglers, XTC, Boomtown Rats, Squeeze, the list goes on!
Wow, I've listened to punk most of my life, and I only understood about 8 words.

@VDRP nah I think you've got it wrong... the most talented realize that the 'scene' is made up of a bunch of twats that suck to hang out with.

@Kino500 Yeah, he's living on a farm near Airdrie and says he can't do shows anymore. I want to honour his feelings but it seems like such a waste.

Did you play that show? I noticed in the comments of another video that you played with Bob Rock or the Payolas, can't remember which.
