ferrets are carnivores, they cant digest plant matter and they're lactose intolerant, so no bread, no vege and no milk(you can buy special cat milk with no lactose if you want)
tbh guys the maker of the video obviously knows her animals very well not to hurt/eat eachother! they are both very easy going arnt they? i know mines a trouble maker hence why he doesnt go near our rest of the animals really, he would think the bird wanted to play and go crazy over the noise it can make and start jumping about! good video your bird is very pretty! :)
So cute but its true good thing they have the ferret on a lead, one of those birds can break a broom stick in half pretty easily, there would be no winning for the ferret
not usually, chickens yes but birds like parrots? no.
in the wild they would normally live on rats, mice, rabbits and chickens though i have heard about ferrets attacking swans, not sure about eating them after though...
Usually putting similar size predators with non-predators, even intelligent ones, is risky as their behaviourism is different and the ferret might play to rough causing a fight, damage or death.
More ever, the ferret isnt the only problem.. a Jacko can sever a human finger if he gets into it enough, so he could kill a ferret as well.
@drsweetluv I think that's why she put the ferret on a lead. My cat jumped into my ferrets outdoor enclosure once, and ONE of my ferrets actually came out and jumped on her back trying to go for her neck. If the other 2 had come out, I think my cat would have been dead.
My cat is stupid though, she stayed in there even after I got Tarker (My ferret) off. Lol :|
Wow your grey looks identical to mine. As friendly as mine is now though, I wouldn't trust him with a ferret. Grey's can't bite through bone though -_-. I'd have no fingers left if that were true!
coming from a home with an african grey parrot and a ferret- I'd just like to say that you guys are ignorant if you're worried about the parrot- I would be worried about the ferret if anything since they are harmeless to other pets aside from curiosity and parrots can bite through bone with their beak. @diablo254 ferrets do have a slight odor.but you have to make sure they are descented.and make sure you keep their cage clean..i feed mine catfood.although i heard kitten food is more beneficial.they are very cool pets.not hard to take care of at all.one slight downfall is they tend to potty in corners of a room.dont know why .but they do.and they do sleep alot.other than that .i love mine.he looks alot like the ferret in this video.
@littlepurpleliv are you serious?i know ferrets kill rodents.rats,.rabbits,mice and so on.....probably not a good idea to let a ferret play with any member of the rodent family.my buddies ferret got into his bunnies cage one night.he woke up and heard a strange squealing sound.he went into the room and the ferret was attacking the bunny.sounds mean.but it is nature.
Very cute vid but PLEASE be very careful!!! Those bars your bird is climbing on can give him metal poisoning!!!! There is alot of metal that can harm birds even without you knowing it. Im only saying this cause you have such a lovely bird.
@squeemishly1 Yup I've been doing research on parrots and ALL parrots are susceptible to metal poisoning from any galvanized metal or anything that isnt stainless steal or nickle. Often you wont see the sign until the bird is waaay too sick because in the wild the birds who are sick are a target for predators, which make them a danger to the flock. So the birds mask their sickness as long as possible to avoid being thrown out by the flock. Thats why catching metal poisoning is VERY hard
@negrarica Symptoms of being sick include: unusual puffing of the feathers, secretions from the nose or eyes, vomiting, increased temperature, decreased weight, loss of interest in food or water, very watery stool or being unable to identify the white part from the rest, wheezing, being very lethargic, and some more I cant remember. I'll get you some links about identifying symptoms and proper procedures for you and send them into your mail box ^^
It's funny how quickly African Greys learn the mobility limits of other animals. He knew exactly how far that leash kept the ferret and stood just out of reach... My parrot does the same with my dog. He always perches a few feet out of my dogs reach. Then he laughs at him.
wow are you for real im not trien to be rude but do u realize ferrets are carnavores and eat meat and he'll try attaking the grey bt the grey will kill him???? idk your owner skills thats why im leaving this comment i see this vid was added a coupla yrs back how are they with eachther now?
He screams at my ferrets to get away, because he likes taking a bit of their food, as well. I only leave him out with them while I’m around, though. Otherwise I relocate him to a separate room or put him in his cage.
Similar story with my cockatiel. He's he hates everyone, except me and my mastiff. My ferrets get free-roam of my room approximately 7-10 hours a day and my bird never had his wings clipped so he can fly anywhere he wants and is also mostly cage-free. He uses his cage as a docking bay, for food, water and toys. He actually sleeps on my window sill at night time.
@stephen88hox Not necessarily. People who feed live food are typically called voraphiles- people who like watching animals being killed and eaten for enjoyment. If you want to feed whole, I don’t see how pre-killed is any less beneficial.
@YiddishDancingClown There is no reason to not give pre-killed. Feeding ferrets live food is the same as feed cats and dogs live food. If you want to see an animal die, go on a safari. Most people who do that are voraphiles. I do not see how giving pre-killed is bad for a ferret.
@YiddishDancingClown Really? Please explain........ Ferrets have been domesticated for almost 3,000 years. They are no longer wild. You are not giving any convincing evidence of why they should eat live and pre-killed or a reputable commercial brand.........
Do you know why they chose to domesticate them in the first place? Because they kill and eat rodents. It's healthier because they get everything they need all in one convenient little package. With a natural diet, you wouldn't need to feed your ferret any vitamins or any of that stuff or ferret lax. I never said they can't live this way, it's just better the natural diet way.
@YiddishDancingClown Here's the thing. I have a pet rat, and two ferrets, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't seem right to give mine live prey when I already have a pet rat. And although frozen food may lose some of its nutrients, how old do you think it could be, for it to be edible. Obviously a few nutrients don't have to be present for it to still be considered healthy.
@YiddishDancingClown I still give my ferrets live invertebrate prey, as it's been known to have more protein, gram per gram, than many forms of vertebrate prey. The invertebrates have no nociceptors, which make the death for them less torturous than if you were to give your ferrets a live rat/ mouse. Rats also have very long, sharp bottom incisors which can inflict damage to the ferret.
@YiddishDancingClown If you want to get the most out of the nutrition of a food item for a ferret without actually torturing it, then buy them live, and gas them in CO2 or CO. They fall asleep, instead of actually being tortured and will be killed with all of the nutrients in tact. CO2 and the sets are quite cost efficient. You must respect the prey item, if you keep the predator.
@YiddishDancingClown Cats were made to kill rats and mice on ships, but it doesn’t mean that today, it’s very common for owners to give live prey to them. Most ferrets domesticated today have not been raised long enough with their parents to inherit hunting tactics, and through the generations, they may carry the instinct to hunt, but they do not know the proper method, because it was lost amongst generations of domestication.
@YiddishDancingClown In the wild, most animals in the weasel family prefer to strike right at the cervical vertebrae of their prey to kill them. A live animal that is more intelligent than a human infant being given to a domestic animal with no hunting experience is beyond torture. Ferrets do not inherit hunting tactics- they learn them from their parents. Because of their domestication, most lines of ferrets (pets) do not have good hunting experience.
@YiddishDancingClown If you didn’t read all of it, then you didn't get the full point I'm making. Here's another question. If it were legal to feed live human infants to larger kinds of pets (e.g.- boa constrictors and alligators), would you do it? They are certainly healthier for consumption than a piece of meat. Rats typically are more intelligent than ferrets- not to mention human infants…..
Exactly, stay on subject. This isn't about alligators or human infants, this is about ferrets and their natural prey. Human babies aren't an alligator's natural prey. You have no basis for saying this. This is for the health of a ferret and only that. Besides, ferrets are much more intelligent than rats. That's just an asinine comment on your part.
@YiddishDancingClown Are you kidding me? Rats are ranked to be as smart as dogs. Rats manipulate objects in certain ways ferrets can't. I have both- 2 ferrets and one rat; you do not have rat to compare and contrast their behaviors. And you seem to have only read one of my seven comments, on this page. And I have also mentioned constrictors.
@YiddishDancingClown In Africa, where humans are native to, pythons were and still are predators of the human young. A fully grown rock python is more than large enough to crush and kill a human infant.
@YiddishDancingClown Also, you still haven't given me info on how killing the rat/ mouse humanely before feeding the animal to a ferret is any less healthy. Unless you are an individual who likes to do ferreting, I don't see how those skills are vital to ferret health in a house....... And by looking at your recent post, it appears you haven’t read my recent posts I have presented you with.
my ferret almost killed my bird, I'm sure the only reason that bird didn't die is b/c you had it on a leash if you didn't that ferret would of had it by the throat not trying to troll or anything but its a natural instinct. Just saying don't put them together .
i want a ferret so bad can i lets mine out of the cage or something like that im scard or 3 reasons 1:will it bite me 2:can i let it out of its cage and 3:if i can let it out of its cage with out a thing on it can i let it out for 24 hours?
@zack31595 -late reply but, Ferrets usually only play bite, which doesn't hurt and is a quick nip, it doesn't leave any marks or anything. However, you are suppose to train them not to bite when they are young that way they won't bite hard. Ferrets NEED to be out of cages 2-4 hours a day or more, they need play time and socialization,Ferrets need supervision when out. They can get into anything their head can fit into, let them out when you will be in the room & ferret proof the room.
Birds are very different from mammal, and mammals (including humans) have dangerous bacteria in their saliva, so dangerous that even a seemingly gentle bite may cause serious injury to any bird. My grandparents had a ferret who killed their beloved cockatiel.
parrots have a very nasty bite, and im sure that ferret could get a nasty bite on a parrot. Any ways, the parrot could probly defend it's self from the ferret... do you clip its wings?
Ferrets make awesome pets! We have had 3 and also had cats along with dogs at the same time and they all interacted quite well and played together great. Ferrets have a musky odor but as another user stated, keeping the cage clean will eliminate a lot of that. They are pretty clean animals and take to a litter box as easily as a cat. The only drawback for me is their relatively short lifespans, you get too attached and it hurts to much to see them die. My daughter wants another one.
your African Grey is adorable! I currently just have a quaker (sweet little thing that she is, know alot of words too) just by this video i can tell that your Grey has a wonderfull home, im getting a Grey and a Cockatoo once i move out, I will bring my Quaker too. Parrots are TONS of work, eh? lol
You should ferret proof your home, put chicken wire in all the places they could get out. Ferrets are very curious animals and need to be allowed to explore and play or you will have a very unhappy ferret. Don't leave him/her tied up if you do. Even a large cage is better than tying them up.
Males smell worse than females, but neither really smell as long as you keep their cage CLEAN. They don't bury their crap and that stuff smells terrible and is a thick musky odor that tends to hang with them. I have a female and about once a week I take her in the shower with me, plug the drain and let her swim around and get clean. She loves the warm/hot water and floats around on her back like an otter sometimes.
Beautiful gray, beautiful ferret. But the ferret innately understands the difference between birds and mammals. And three things you cannot condition out of ferrets are their curiosity, fearlessness and love for delicious birds.
hahaha i have a ferret. anywayz my brother wants a parrot an i have a ferret. i always though ferret harm birds so we never got a parrot i guess they dnt do they??
clockers678t i can tell u dnt own a ferret cuz u wouldn't be leaving comments like tht if u own one!!! and scence u dnt own a ferret fuck off cuz u have no idea wat there like there highly smart and curious and they can do stuuf wayy better tht rats and unlike rats ferret r rodents r pests so before u go run ur mounth about an harmless animal make sure u own one before u tlk be fat loser!!!
i have two ferrets who are fixed and they are the nicest ferrets they could be, the only time they bite is in the morning when they wanna wake me up and its not a hard bite its just a little pinch to wake me up
My moms experience with a bird and ferret wasn't so cool. Her ferret grabbed a Quaker and dragged it under the couch...the bird lived...had to have a wing amputated but he tuned mean after. He keeps trying to fly and he has nasty falls...she's gonna have to get him put to sleep now.
yikes! i have 2 parrots and 2 ferrets. I know my little ferret Suki climbed my double yellow headed amazon's cage and tried to eat him. If he hadn't screamed so loud I might not have gotten there in time. My other ferret Juju is much larger and most likely would have killed him. You should be careful.
I was watching your video, and don't get me wrong, it was adorable, but I also saw others shocking things. In the wild, ferrets hunted birds, and believe it or not, they still have that instinct to kill in them. Also, ferret and cat saliva is extremely harmful to a bird. I have two ferrets and one Ekkie parrot, and I do not let them withing ten feet of each other. Just to let you know.
What a cute grey. It has such a beautiful coat! How do you keep the bird from pooping and walking over it, tracking it everywhere? My grey is always out but poops every 5 min when she on the ground or flying around (no joke) so I have to take her with me everywhere, cleaning after her so she can have fun. There must be a better way though!
should still be careful, ferrets like to eat birds and rodents, remember: they are animals and act on instinct

TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
Because you don't know what you're talking about. It's a common misconception made often.
YiddishDancingClown 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown Really? Please explain........ Ferrets have been domesticated for almost 3,000 years. They are no longer wild. You are not giving any convincing evidence of why they should eat live and pre-killed or a reputable commercial brand.........
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
Do you know why they chose to domesticate them in the first place? Because they kill and eat rodents. It's healthier because they get everything they need all in one convenient little package. With a natural diet, you wouldn't need to feed your ferret any vitamins or any of that stuff or ferret lax. I never said they can't live this way, it's just better the natural diet way.
YiddishDancingClown 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown Here's the thing. I have a pet rat, and two ferrets, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't seem right to give mine live prey when I already have a pet rat. And although frozen food may lose some of its nutrients, how old do you think it could be, for it to be edible. Obviously a few nutrients don't have to be present for it to still be considered healthy.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown I still give my ferrets live invertebrate prey, as it's been known to have more protein, gram per gram, than many forms of vertebrate prey. The invertebrates have no nociceptors, which make the death for them less torturous than if you were to give your ferrets a live rat/ mouse. Rats also have very long, sharp bottom incisors which can inflict damage to the ferret.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown If you want to get the most out of the nutrition of a food item for a ferret without actually torturing it, then buy them live, and gas them in CO2 or CO. They fall asleep, instead of actually being tortured and will be killed with all of the nutrients in tact. CO2 and the sets are quite cost efficient. You must respect the prey item, if you keep the predator.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown Cats were made to kill rats and mice on ships, but it doesn’t mean that today, it’s very common for owners to give live prey to them. Most ferrets domesticated today have not been raised long enough with their parents to inherit hunting tactics, and through the generations, they may carry the instinct to hunt, but they do not know the proper method, because it was lost amongst generations of domestication.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown In the wild, most animals in the weasel family prefer to strike right at the cervical vertebrae of their prey to kill them. A live animal that is more intelligent than a human infant being given to a domestic animal with no hunting experience is beyond torture. Ferrets do not inherit hunting tactics- they learn them from their parents. Because of their domestication, most lines of ferrets (pets) do not have good hunting experience.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
tl;dr Point is, it's healthier. This has nothing to do with instinct and never has. Stay on subject.
YiddishDancingClown 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown If you didn’t read all of it, then you didn't get the full point I'm making. Here's another question. If it were legal to feed live human infants to larger kinds of pets (e.g.- boa constrictors and alligators), would you do it? They are certainly healthier for consumption than a piece of meat. Rats typically are more intelligent than ferrets- not to mention human infants…..
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
Exactly, stay on subject. This isn't about alligators or human infants, this is about ferrets and their natural prey. Human babies aren't an alligator's natural prey. You have no basis for saying this. This is for the health of a ferret and only that. Besides, ferrets are much more intelligent than rats. That's just an asinine comment on your part.
YiddishDancingClown 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown Are you kidding me? Rats are ranked to be as smart as dogs. Rats manipulate objects in certain ways ferrets can't. I have both- 2 ferrets and one rat; you do not have rat to compare and contrast their behaviors. And you seem to have only read one of my seven comments, on this page. And I have also mentioned constrictors.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown In Africa, where humans are native to, pythons were and still are predators of the human young. A fully grown rock python is more than large enough to crush and kill a human infant.
TheREALSoffish 1 year ago

Just saying don't put them together .

i want a ferret so bad can i lets mine out of the cage or something like that im scard or 3 reasons 1:will it bite me 2:can i let it out of its cage and 3:if i can let it out of its cage with out a thing on it can i let it out for 24 hours?
zack31595 1 year ago
@zack31595 -late reply but, Ferrets usually only play bite, which doesn't hurt and is a quick nip, it doesn't leave any marks or anything. However, you are suppose to train them not to bite when they are young that way they won't bite hard. Ferrets NEED to be out of cages 2-4 hours a day or more, they need play time and socialization,Ferrets need supervision when out. They can get into anything their head can fit into, let them out when you will be in the room & ferret proof the room.

i agree with misspickletoes
Birds are very different from mammal, and mammals (including humans) have dangerous bacteria in their saliva, so dangerous that even a seemingly gentle bite may cause serious injury to any bird. My grandparents had a ferret who killed their beloved cockatiel.

Parrots are TONS of work, eh? lol
TheGmodModder 2 years ago
You should ferret proof your home, put chicken wire in all the places they could get out. Ferrets are very curious animals and need to be allowed to explore and play or you will have a very unhappy ferret. Don't leave him/her tied up if you do. Even a large cage is better than tying them up.

i've heard that ferrets smell really bad. is this true?
firethower99 2 years ago
Males smell worse than females, but neither really smell as long as you keep their cage CLEAN. They don't bury their crap and that stuff smells terrible and is a thick musky odor that tends to hang with them. I have a female and about once a week I take her in the shower with me, plug the drain and let her swim around and get clean. She loves the warm/hot water and floats around on her back like an otter sometimes.

You should be careful.

isuckdicks 3 years ago
