The undiplomatic version of this piece: venture caplital is for self-entitled douchebags who have no interest in actually doing anything that anyone needs.
A business that can't make money on its own isn't a real business. Derek is a rarity in a field dominated by charlatans and ponzi schemes.
@SomethingSea1 Unrelated. Taxation is the basis for being able to run a government that builds infrastructure and provides essential services. Tax revenue is misused when it's directed towards anything other than these.
But misuse of tax revenue doesn't invalidate the need for taxes.
As much as I love this it's not always possible. but I do what I can and it's a struggle, but I'm getting there slowly :D. Nice vid, it's got some good points :).
Thanks to Guy's G+ panel, I found this short, sweet and to the point NFN (no funding needed) excerpt. Strong work Derek! Now when i reiterate my mantra (for the umpteenth time) "Thing Big, Start Small, Scale Fast, Do It Now" - I have a nice piece of relevant content to support my point ;-)
I'm trying to think how to apply this to my art career. So far my painting takes a lot of time and money for canvas, paint, framing, Web site, email, portfolio...with little return. Getting the attention of galleries is key but they are all overloaded with artists. I get plenty of postive feedback on my paintings so I'm just sticking with it and hoping I'll get a break eventually.
Agreed, your voice is pleasant and friendly without being disingenuine. However, I would like to point out that even you had to begin funding with 500 dollars. ... I guess regardless of the goal, one needs a job.
Great video Derek and very inspiring. Thumbs up.

@moeskido And this version is only possible with taxation being existent. Taxation is at the basis of our habitual ponzi schemes.

Henry Ford once remarked, "If I'd asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse."
Point: You must know more about your customers than perhaps they themselves do.

Unfortunately you do need funding for a lot of things, but starting small can be a good option for some things.
