  • Toyota moving backwards, that what it should be.

  • In my opinion, its all about politics...

The sudden acceleration complain were already exist 5-6 years before 2009.

It is funny how suddenly the media make this such a big problem not too long after US car manufacturer GM were declared bankrupcy...

Dont you guys think its odd???

  • Cannot believe people still doubt the largest car manufacture in the world... here in the UK, Renault Clios have bonnets that fly open at 60+mph and Renault are still pretending that nothing is wrong with them and it's the drivers fault. Toyota made a mistake, they fixed it in the correct manner. Media owe Toyota an apology.

  • i meant 0:14

  • @KillerKaprice

    prove it

  • @accordguy0325 oh go somewhere import fan boy

  • @KillerKaprice

I don't care for Toyota all that much...but the point remains - the Federal Government via NHTSA and NASA cannot locate any problems with Toyota's electronics and they themselves attributed the majority of unintended acceleration incidents to driver error.

  • @accordguy0325 that's like telling a person falsely accused of a crime to prove his innocence. It's up to those doing the accusing to prove GUILT, not for the accused to prove innocence.

  • 0:15 BULLSHIT!!!!

  • This is only after-the-fact testing. Design for safety would begin with FMECA and include carefully designed software. EMI tests don't cover all forms of SEU such as muons. See my channel comments for a Design For Safety article.

We need FAA like cert before steering becomes fly by wire and causes more death.

  • Yesterday NBC News announced NASA working with NHTSA to apply NASA analysis of electronic controls applied to safety critical components. I for one appreciate the effort to get in front of this because FBW steering will make sense someday and can be done safely like we do flying thanks to the FAA regs.

  • "NASA scientists with expertise in electronics will help the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study potential electronic ties to unintended acceleration in Toyotas. NASA's knowledge of electronics, computer hardware and software and hazard analysis will ensure a comprehensive review" NHTSA Sec, Ray LaHood, Mon

Me: FBW will improve cars safety overall when done well. Like aircraft designs exceed safety regs, the process produces both safety AND performance (for appropriate cost)!

  • That's what the service department said about my car "NOTHING is wrong" Meanwhile, I buck on downhills. OK, whatever.

  • Toyota................"no matter how hard you try you cant stop us now"

  • @339svq seriously its like saying we can do all this but we where just to lazy to do so now all thos who died sorry for being lazy fuks!

  • well consumer reports says hit the breaks first if it doesnt work dont pump the breaks put the car in neutral then hit the breaks again then turn the car off. If its a push button start on most toyotas hold the start button down three seconds to turn the car off.

  • I dont understand why these people cant get the cars to slow down I mean if the accelerater sticks and the brakes arent working you can still shift into low gear or just put it in neutral or just turn the key off (midway to keep electrics on) Im just brain storming here I dont know if any of this would work but I never hear about anybody trying any of this. I just heard a 911 call of a guy in a runaway car and he just said he couldnt slow down and it didnt sound like he tried any of this?

  • I thought this initially as well. But due to the gearbox it has, you can't shift into neutral when this problem happens, and the car is set up so you can't just shut it off at higher speeds (as protection in case anyone accidentally presses it).

  • According to Toyota "80% of Toyota's are still on the road today." The other 20% crashed cause of the recall.

    Goooo Honda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One solution, cable operated throttle!

  • tell me about it seriously is it a car nowadays ora freaking computer

  • Fool me once...........Shame on me......

WTF..........Stop this BS propaganda & brainwash

FYI: It is still being investigated

  • poor toyota =)

  • BS....the real world shows that toyota has serious ETC issues.

This has already been proven by Dr. Gilbert

  • @th3ha1og0d true to tat

  • Its all bs america cant stand the fact that an offshore company has become number one in there own country, back in the 70's when Toyota first came to america it took over the market with there great prices and fuel efficient cars they took out All american car companys, what did america do? Tariff, they put a tax on all imports forcing the company's to raise there prices so there would be a fair chance for american car company's

  • @mogamusic TOYOTA HAS NEVER BEEN #1 IN AMERICA AND NEVER WILL BE AS LONG AS THEY CONTINUE TO DECEIVE THE CONSUMER. TOYOTA MADE #1 IN THE WORLD FOR ONE YEAR ONLY. TOYOTA HAS BEEN SCREWING THEIR EMPLOYEES AND SUPPLIERS FOR 10 YEARS AND NOW IT'S ALL COMING OUT ABOUT HOW THEY CUT CORNERS TO SAVE A YEN. DID YOU KNOW JAP GOV'T BAILED OUT TOYOTA FOR 200 BILLION LAST YEAR?

  • wtf they still claiming its ok

  • of course they are still claiming its ok. its going to hurt their PR badly when they have to admit that they have a failure in electronic throttle system. a private non-toyota hired engineer said he could get failure in the system after 2 hours of work.

as far as fail-safes?? volkwaggen has a cut-off. if you apply both brake and gas in a VW, it will idle. toyota vehicles do NOT have this feature.

this is serous and is going to cost toyota a lot of money to fix

  • @ad356

Toyota is already adding the brake override feature to the 2007-'10 Camry, 2005-'10 Avalon, 2007-'10 Lexus ES 350, 2006-'10 IS 350, 2006-'10 IS 250, 2008-'10 Sequoia, 2005-'10 Tacoma and 2009-'10 Venza. They will also add it to all future models. Ford, GM, and Hyundai also do not offer this feature although Ford and Hyundai plan to add it to future models later on.

  • Lies

  • Lies

  • toyotas suck if your driving foriegn your part of the problem

  • Your Toyota's let U down. I hate Toyota and all what it stands for.

  • Modern day cars all have similar floor pedals,

this can happen to any car regardless of make or model, Just it happened to Toyota First. Now every manufacture is doing silent recalls. But we just don't hear about it.

  • @Goku4421 What? silent recalls? haha

  • @Goku4421 what silent recall..... toyota has came up with crappy excuses... such as stuck floor mat... then what next, stuck pedal and what next, it's gonna be the truth, malfunctioning throttle sensor.

  • I would be curious to know the average age of those who have experienced this sudden acceleration problem. I bet they are mostly older. I'm not crazy about Toyota though, they never admitted years of head gasket problems with their 6 cylinders. There dealers seemed to be crooks to me so I switched to Honda.

  • I've seen this happen with different types of cars, mostly in parking lots. The elderly get confused press the gas thinking it's the brake. They keep press harder as the car accelerates.

  • Very pleased to see this type of video. I wonder where this issue would be today if this video had been released 6 months ago? Still, job well done.

  • Toyota can not even give a straight answer to what is the problem. Floor mats, electrical problems, too long of pedals, a piece of metal creating friction...what else?? its just excuses, and they might NOT know what is the REAL problem. they are just giving customers and the World the 'run-around'. Forget Toyota!

is Toyota the ONLY brand out their? Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Ford, GM, BMW, VW, Chrysler, Dodge, plus more. any of these brands are better than Toyota and safer without the heavy pricetag!

  • No they are not 'better' no one is better than anyone they all have their problems. But the problem is is that soo many people have Toyota's cars. Thats why this is so big to every one. I HAD a toyota and since this has happened i got a mercedes. I just don't think what they know is happening with their cars. Like they say this stuff but they aren't looking at the basics of their cars. It could be that the gas pedal is releasing more gas from the gas chamber that makes the car go faster........

  • @mreil23

"It could be that the gas pedal is releasing more gas from the gas chamber that makes the car go faster..."

I dont think gas pedal can release gas like you said.

Its like what she describe at 00:34.

And all drive by wire throttle are the same, gas pedal sent voltage signal to TPS and ECM, and ECM provide the proper A/F mixture for engine

I guess they still look for the thing that causes TPS received faulty voltage signal causing it stuck open when the acceleration pedal is released

  • Yeah, my cousin works for toyota I'll ask him but he said it has something to do with electronics & a pedal malfunction... I'll let you know

  • All these comments of people actually believing that there is nothing wrong with the electronics is crap. Toyota wants this. They won't admit their is electrical problems because they are in too much trouble already, from sticky pedals to brake problems, and if it were to move to electronic problems, everyone would say bye bye to Toyota, literally. They are trying to avoid this by lying, and will goto any extent to cover it up. Either way they'll go down, someone will find out the cover up.

  • The real problem with Toyota....The bailout of GM didn't work. So now it's attack the competition. I will be buying a new vehicle in the next year, and it will be a toyota.

  • Agreed. If this happened before the bailout or the CFC, it wouldn't have gotten blown out of proportion like it has now. The big three were whining about how it was unfair that Toyota was a part of the CFC because about 90% of the people traded into Toyota dealers (judging by what I've found in junkyards). So they are just getting revenge. I'll always buy nothing but Toyota.

  • It's funny how there is way more toyotas on the road around here than all others combined, but nobody here has any problems. It would be tough to build and sell vehicles to a society that doesn't take responsability for it's own mistakes, such as rearending someone, or running a red light. It seems every foriegn make has to install common sence on it's vehicles so a total idiot can drive it. This whole thing is just like the Yamaha Rhino rollover thing...total BS!

  • white wash? The fact still reigns true that the Brake Priority code will be implemented in 2011 is not on the cars. So whether or not the car has a problem with sudden unintended acceleration from one or a combination of the following they can stop the car; floor mats, accelerator, computer code

  • looking at the video, "every car manufacturer has ECT-S" should have been followed by "and they don't have this problem", then followed by our new Corolla now has electronic power steering, the power steering of years past where you are in control is now compromised.

  • This is why I hate drive-by-wire systems. I'd rather have a mechanical linkage instead of this electronic crap.

  • Why have there been many accounts of uncontrollable acceleration without floor mats, without a stuck accelerator pedal, and without any codes stored of a failure. You cannot diagnose a problem that is not saved as a code in an ECU memory. I believe this is not the last of it or as Mr. Lentz stated the vehicles may not be completely repaired by this. Of course they said that when they swept the dirt under the floor mats. I mean carpet

  • GREAT video. At least it wasn't read and rehearsed with a team of lawyers first

  • @CSICantStandIdiots It was, they just tried really hard to make it look like they didn't. When a company is this deep into trouble, anything they say if reviews by PR, Lawyers etc.

  • just search for "Video: Expert recreates Toyota sudden acceleration" in google

I wonder what toyota would say about this

  • Then why so many failures with the RESULTS of people losing their LIFE??

  • To show that Toyota is full of it, search Youtube for - Dave Gilbert toyota

Then watch - "Video expert recreates Toyota sudden acceleration"

  • But if drive by wire is to be continued, it doesn't hurt to completely redesign the acceleration pedal similar to BMWs, very long pedal, from the floor to deep into the driver well.

  • While increasing electronic components in a vehicle is a part of automotive evolution, better driver education about vehicles new and old and a simple cable throttle design goes a long way. True "traction control" is from a driver that pays attention to all four contact patches with the road surface and modulates the throttle, brake, and possibly clutch coinciding with steering to find optimum control.
