No comparison, Freddie is the best overall artist (i.e. singer, songwriter, performer and talent). The Beatles were famous because they were the first to bring the new sound to the masses, but Freddie was self-made, pure, original voice and every song became his own. The proof in that is because no one can do justice to Freddie Mercury's songs. Many groups have covered the Beatles but no group has come close to the lead singer sounding like Freddie.

I fully agree with you, one's singing ability is not determined by range alone—you could have 6 octaves, for all I care, and still sound like trash. But it's another facet of the overall competence in singing. Freddie happened to have incredible range and graced with a heavenly voice. Lennon was a great singer, no doubt, buy I just do not think there is any comparison with Freddie. He's incomparable, inimitable. The best singer this world has ever seen.

This was a great cover of John Lennon's signature post-Beatles classic. Queen's cover was the best version of all I heard (fuck Madonna that hag). Freddie Mercury's vocal on this version was phenomenal and I believe Queen played this before "Crazy Little Thing" so he and Brian May are on acoustic guitars, John Deacon on bass guitar and Roger Taylor on drums. I wish Queen professionally recorded the 1980 shows for official release.

I wish Queen had a mobile truck at Wembley Arena when they did this classic on December 9, 1980 (I'm glad a fan got to capture this moment). Freddie's vocal was haunting and they could take another person's song (Jailhouse Rock, Tutti Fruitti as examples) and make a kick ass cover in addition to their phenomenal original material.

yes this is a genuine recording,it was done shortly after john was murdered as queens tribute to one of their heros and influences, live in a concert in 1980.freddie has sung other peoples music .have alook at the freddie mercury anthology box set.he sung the beatles tune rain and has colaberated with michael jackson to name a few,many rarely heard as they have not been released mainstream.there is also a lot of unreleased queen material too.thank you john and freddie for the music.
