There now is a reboot planned for release in 2012 during Christmas time. It is unknown what actors will be involved- but a writer has been hired and plans to do a story with both Lex Luthor and Brainiac as the villains. The story will happen as if all the characters are already known- so there will not be an origin story in this movie either. "Superman Returns" looks like it could have been a good movie- but it screwed up trying to recreate the original series instead of starting its very own.

@JLC31383 Christopher Nolan is producing the film "Superman: The Man of Steel" which is slated for a holiday release in 2012. They are bringing Brandon Routh back due to popular demand and Nolan IS going darker with the film. Nolan and his brother are NOT directing, Nolan is actually going through a list of directors to do the film.. One of them responsible for "Clash of the Titans 2".

@HMGen14 I thought it was just a rumor Brandon Routh was coming back because he has only expressed interest in it- but Chris Nolan said he would not allow it because he wanted viewers to know this was not a sequel to "Superman Returns" as they would assume it was if it had the same actor starring in it. I know it was not officially confirmed that Jonathan Nolan would be directing- but that still is being debated last I knew. Nothing official seems to be in progress at this time about that stuff.

I don't think Brandon Routh would be a good choice for a Superman reboot; he's just way too thin and boyish. Anyone cast as Superman should seem manly and have a more robust build; he should be someone I can really invision as 'the Man of Steel' I'd also like to see a Superman film that's more serious.

Superman should never team up with Batman. Come on... Superman can save the world. What can Batman do: save a city. Plus, Batman slows Superman down and makes him look weak ~stupid. I loved Superman Returns; it was a great movie & stayed true to the Richard Donner film & Superman II. Brandon Routh looks similar to Christopher Reeve, who's my favorite as Superman. Clark Kent isn't dark and this generation cares too much about fighting, hatred, and blood- pretty sad. Where's the real good anymore?

Superman was not meant to be dark. He is not Ghost Rider, Hellboy,Batman or Wolverine. Take Batman for instance, he is driven by vengeance whereas Superman uses his powers for the good of all mankind. There is no conflict within Superman, so making Superman dark emotionally wouldn't make sense. As far as gritty, Superman has always been gritty. I have no problem with that.

I wanna see Darksied as a Villan. I always thought that Darksied's planet of Apokolyps could have at one time been at war with Krypton and with that planet now gone Darkseid grew in power and is now going to invade Earth after discovering Superman exists there. That would be what I'd want in a reboot.

Yeah Superman returns was not perfect maybe cause the movie was a tribute to the classic style of the first movie and characters with only one dimension as a a too much cartoon Luthor. But Singer did a great sequel to Xmen without making it darker than the first one

My problem with Singer's vision was that there was no freakin action! What the hell is up with that crap?! A Superman film needs action, lots of it! Badass villains and some what of a gritty tone. Singers vision lacked those things BIG TIME!

There was some action, like the plane rescue, and there was also the scenes where he was saving Metropolis from the earthquake caused by Lex Luthor. I'll agree there wasn't much. I think what Singer was trying to do was reintroduce the characters in his first film. He once said that in his second film he would go all Wrath of Khan, meaning more action second time around, but it looks like there won't be a second time around.

Lots of people wanted a reboot because they didn't agree with Singer's vision. What WB should've done is take a more active role in the production of Superman Returns. They left the entire thing up to SInger, just like they left Batman up to Nolan.

But while Nolan was on the same page with most of Batman fandom, Singer wasn't. And until recently, WB couldn't have realized how important it is for the fans to be on the same wavelength as the director.

You bring up some good points, but not everyone disliked Superman Returns, and Singer has heard the criticism of his movie, and I believe he would have improved upon it.I would rather that he do another one then give it to Mark Millar who wants to do a origin story.Donner's first Superman movie told about Superman's beginnings, and should not have a remake.Donner's film is a Superhero movie classic, also I Don't like WB Idea for a darker movie, and a lot of people feel the same way.

@entertainmentunivers I think there should be a modern movie with Superman's origin story because the original 1978 film now is out of date for today as well as the comic books having their major changes for the character since then. But I do not worry about it since I know the reboot will not be doing that. I used to think it would be cool if a first movie did things almost the same as the very first episode for "Superman: The Animated Series". Lex Luthor in the movies should be just like that.

Among the other critics, I think you've got the greatest insight on this particular issue. I really hope Warner Bros would just make a cool sequel instead of a reboot. Brandon Routh did a good job and I believe Singer could come up with a better action-packed sequel. Pls keep us updated on the latest rumors and news on the superman returns sequel.
