OMG ppl are sooooo dumb......eating fruits and veggies are the only foods that clean you, and help you provide your body with vitamins and minerals it needs. the ONLY reason that this kid had deficiencies is because he does not know how to eat correctly....
Nevermind my last post... I found the rest of his basic blood work and he IS hypoglycemic, with a blood glucose of 50. Why didn't they mention this (or did I miss it)? It seems important
I'm against frutarianism, but I was expecting a lot more problems to arise in a blood test. Vitamin D is not very related to diet, nor is B12 (which could have caused the anemia, assuming supplements are needed in all vegan diets to obtain B12, this person may not have been taking a supplement, simple as that)I was expecting hypoglycemia, and a lot more deficiencies (zinc?)The malabsorption seems worrisome, but other than that better than I expected. How long was he frutarian? More info needed
I disagree. With Brian. I always respected him, but I can not hide my own experience. After being 100% raw vegan for 10 years (vegan for 25), I consumed nothing but fresh ripe fruit, dark green leaves, and some other raw veggies. Check out my website TheFirstSupper - I am far from anemic. Especially check out my 2011 pics under "Fruit Builds Muscle Best" I agree with Brian that a person with late stage cancer should not eat the way I do. Until they are cancer-free.
How much was this doctor paid? A love how Brian is so smug... "First off, I want to congratulate the young man that stepped up," fuck you Briant. Keep wearing your expensive suits. Science is too narrow for 811. Also, who has lived a 811since the womb so we can have a good comparison... and who gets their bloodwork done before getting into health. It was probably this young man's first blood test ever. Fruit didn't cause the symptoms.
Look how sick and out of shape both these guys look. Nice guys Im sure but as we say in the fitness industry 'dont take fitness advice from fat tired people!'.
@durianrider ,lol.... You think Dr B looks sick?? i met Dr B in 2009,when he was in the room you knew it and he looked great,In this video Dr Brian is about 60,i hope i look as good at almost 60!!
Clement is a scientist. Note the word SCIENTIST, all these other people telling you to just eat fruit whenever you want how-ever much you want clearly don't know what they are talking about, and don't have SCIENCE or any type of data aside from their own personal beliefs. How can you even begin to compare a man that helps reverse cancer for a living, to someone like Doug Graham???
@aazmitia4990 Just look at Dr. Robert Morse's videos, he has a degree in Chemistry and fruit is a simple sugar. It cleans you out and moves your lympth which most people have a very backed up lympth!
Dont tell me people actually think they can live purely on fruit!! Fruit is very healthy but you need a balanced diet including vegetables carbs and protein!!! YOU CANNOT LIVE ON FRUIT ALONE!
I'm speechless, this is laughable 'science'. You test one guy at one instance, with no indication of his health history before becoming fruitarian. No indication of his actual diet and calorie intake. From this you conclude that a fruitarian diet is unhealthy because of a 'mild anemia' and two 'mild deficiencies'. I think you have a lot to learn about unbiased investigation, at least put a little more effort in next time. Try testing Dr Doug Graham who's been eating largely fruit for 30 years!
1. The results of this fruit challenge are not entirely fair. I know of no raw food advocate that promotes fruitarianism. Even those who advocate high fruit diets still emphasize the importance of greens. (Dr. Douglas Graham, Frederic Patenaude, Roger Haeske)
2. After Dr. Brian Clement doing all the scaring about the dangers of fruit, they found no more than "mild defiencies", in a fruitarian? Does that not imply that if he followed Dr. Douglas Graham's diet, he would be perfect?
regardless of one's personal philosophy, evidence is evidence and always helpful. @durianriders brought up the point that we don't know who the guy was and how he ate. that is valid. it would've been more helpful had they shared this in the video. regardless, every bit of evidence helps to make the overall puzzle complete.
who was the fruitarian? and how can one subject be nearly enough for any self respecting doctor to suggest eating a certain way is right or wrong? What did the fruitarian eat specifically? It's no use saying a fruitarian diet is deficient when you test someone who isn't eating the right food :)
Check out natures botanical pharmacy .com, RobertMorseND link, then Myths link, see his Strong Opposition View with Hippocrates & believes eating Fruit & Greens but no grains is necessary and healthy. He has healed many people with candida & cancer on grape juice fasts (like Omish do), so why strong oppositions in the Raw Community. I actually did better doing this after years struggling on Anti-Candida typical diets (no fruits, but allowed gluten free grains) I'd like to hear more testimonies
It's not scientific to lump ALL fruitarians with this one volunteer Everyone's DIET and CHEMISTRY are different. It would help to publicize his diet, otherwise you look incredibly uncredible. Some fruitarians look healthy, but most look skinny, lack muscle. I think a balanced Raw Vegan diet or Vegetarian w/ some Alaskan Fish & Northern Fish (sardines etc..) can be healthy for mind & skin & body. Some people with mental imbalances do better wtih fish oil. Not everyone converts ALA in fish oil
Is there actually somebody who is completely 100% balanced and healthy? I'm sure all types of diets will leave a person deficient on something or have something that is of excess. Does the good outweigh the bad?
Mr. Clement, you talk from a framework of "medical authority". Please publish your work in a peer reviewed journal. And, as for "this young man", please at least give us a picture of his body with his face blurred, and a brief biography of his life and medical history. To use him as an example of a typical fruit eater without supplying more information discredits your claims, however reasonable they sound to you.
All these deficiencies are caused by the human race chosing to be a meat eating one. Which was the wrong decision. Had we become a vegetarian race all of these people chosing to be fruititarians and such wouldn't have to stick to some diet to prove something there would be a way of getting a well balanced diet. But since they are pioneers in the ways there will be difficulties that must be overcome. One will be a rationed diet that contains supplements until the human race steers back to vegan
You know....I wish for the sake of everyone that Brian and Doug would both have the same analysis. Just to stop everyone wondering and guessing. This is something I think needs to be done..not so much to prove, but to just show the reality of both of these diets on a long timer...they both have done these diets for years...and I think this can be done in a friendly manner....after all they are both trying to help people and do good in the world...
This was SUCH a flawed study. THEY ONLY HAD ONE TEST SUBJECT!!!!!! And as the doctor pointed out--he probably has an absorbtion problem because they vitamin deficiencies he had he would have been getting plenty of!! Grr! They're either idiots or frauds!
Couldn't the PH level of the blood stream and the mediums used for food testing effect the outcome? How can blood tests or food tests be compared against each other if nutrients appear different with different mediums. Then there is the question of our early ancestors, if they were hunters or gatherers. Could it be that they ate many things that are now extinct that had nutrients that we cannot find in the foods of today?
Ha! this is B.S. I've been eating a low fat raw foodist 811 (some call fruitarian) for 2 years now, and I just ran the 4th fastest 50 mile ultra marathon time ever recorded at the JFK 50 mile race (2009) So why don't I have blood problems??? Mike Arnstein 801010 rocks!
So Brian Clement knows better than Mother Nature: Cooked foods, processed oils & supplements are alright but fresh fruit is not??!! Sounds familiar (FDA, AMA, etc)??!!
fruit works for some people but not for me. Because i have to pee all the time. There is some inability to process the sugar i guess. But there are thousands that thrive on 95% of calories from sweet fruit
Brian is extremely FIT. I just saw him at Raw Spirit Fest East. He is the ONLY raw fooder that has worked with tens of thousands of people from all over the world for over 30 years. He's just sharing what his research reveals. I've been raw since 1980 and the peopel I know who ate only fruit for 6 months or more lost their teeth eventurally. What has been shown is that eating green leaves is essential.
I've known Brian Clement since 1983. He IS not only a raw foodist, he is the director of HIppocrates Health Insitutde. He eats 80%+ raw food and fasts one day a week for the past 30 years. That's over 3 years of fasting. He loves fruit but he has found from workiing with thousands of people that eating an all fruit diet is not healthy for them.
Good point. Also, living in Florida does not mean someone is getting enough Vitamin D becuase for that to happen they need to spend time in the sun. Fruit should not interfere with this skin absorbing sunlight. Think about it! Some fruits have more Vitamin A than others, so it could be he was just not getting enough variety of fruits, particulairly mangos and melons and such which are high in Vitamin A.
look at that doctor. look at brian clement. they don't look healthy. they're not teeming with vibrance. they are not thriving, just surviving. jacked up on powders and potions and wheatgrass starvation diet. HUMANS ARE NATURAL FRUIT EATERS.
True. I live on fruit, and I also will say that most people who do this are not doing it correctly. I think seedless fruit and unripe fruit are the bigger culprits, not simply fruit.
Fruit has been hydridized for centuries and it also often picked before ripeness..
i travel with Vitkoras Kulvinskas and have worked with Vitkoras for 30 years. Even Viktoras does not advocate a diet of only fruit. If it worked Viktoras and Brian would be in favor of it.
@paulaontologist ppl ppl we are different people with different chemistrys and mainly fruitairian diet may not be for you but this one size fits all mentality must stop!!! especially in the raw vegan community...
@paulaontologist They are constantly giving lectures and traveling. They have a hard time getting exercise in. Brian Clement is 60 years old and looks awesome! He can bench over 400 lbs. Dr. Gabriel Cousens is almost 70 and can do over 600 pushups after not eating for four days. They are both against consuming massive amounts of fruit. Fruitarians are usually skinny and frail, going bald, and wrinkly. Who wants to look like that? Look at Dr. Doug Graham.....yuck!
@paulaontologist Brian looks unhealthy? He still has dark hair at over 60, he has even skin tone with a very health and vibrant glow to it.
Perception is everything. An anorexic looks at themselves and sees fat. A fruitarian looks at their cheekbones and Skeletor mask of a face and sees health.
@paulaontologist he actually looks pretty healthy to me; suit n tie, well mannered; eager to to help us. I don't thin living off grocery store produce is possible; there's just 1/10 the nutrition in our greens, and everytime we piss, we piss out all those precious minerals. but you learn mr fruitarian, just as i'm learning, the way of the greens and the sprouts. - jack green.
let's see this "young fellow" and determine how he's doing/feeling/what is his diet / history, etc. 2 doctors talking about someone in the 3rd person mean nothing to me. will the "brave young fellow" being discussed here please post a video response so we can see you?
brian clement is a douche. he doesn't have that raw glow you get from eating fruit. fruit contains natural mood elevators, vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, fibre. it's all good stuff.
Especially the Berries are fantastic foods for Humans . Clement is correct that many Raw people eat too much Fruit, and then because of that they suffer alot of TEETH PROBLEMS but by itself Organic Fruit is excellent of course
yeah i agree maybe too much fruit is bad only in this day and age. i think before it was hybridized fruit alone would be fine. i like the david wolfe approach of a balance of fat greens and fruit and his emphasis on mineral rich food but i'm not into the whole powder thing. cacao makes me drink insane amounts of water. its ok very occasionally but not an everyday "super food" but i think some things like chia, fresh aloe and real foods are super and awesome everyday in small amounts.
Have you EVER hear of vitamin A overload from eating healthy amounts of greens. By healthy I mean about a pound every day. You know what foods can give you vitamin A overload? Animal foods and supplements
I hate to inform you, but our SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FORM OF FUEL IS IN SUGARS. Cancers do NOT progress when one cuts out the bad foods and introduces healthy raw fruits and veggies.
We KNOW for a FACT that fruits are associated with being anticancer substances. What planet are you from sir? Fruits feed cancer like books feed illiteracy. Or like you promote knowlege... i.e. very poorly.
Does the phrase "back to the drawing board" mean anything to you doc? If yes, then good. If not, it should.
hey bro, yes, this was what i was wondering about, i mean i resonate with 811, but didn't figure out one thing. I know cancer cells love 2 things ; lack of oxygen and sugar. Could you provide some proof that fruit/veggie sugar does not facilitate cancer. I know that eating a lotta fruit one trains naturall so lack of oxygen would be not an issue.I remember Dr christopher said as well taht he had patient on carrot juice for 3 months or something and she got cured from cancer. Thanks
Dr Joseph will you supply background of the participant and/or a peer reviewed article documenting this case study?
It was "interesting" Vitamin D was low. This warrants background info beyond: "he lives in Florida." Yet, "it may warrant future analysis." How can you hypothesize without background data?
I searched Pubmed & could not find any of these studies & thought this was odd since a "team of medical drs & nurses" did these studies.
test my blood champ. its premium fruit and green. who is this fruitarian? was he sicker a year ago and on the mend now? is he obese or an athlete? living on avocado and tomato or keeping it 811?
dude your fat, your blood looks shot before we have a look.
EVERY CELL IN THE HUMAN BODY IS FUELED ON GLUCOSE AND FRUCTOSE..fruit is the best source for humans..
Dr. Brian Clement have an important argument, the modification of fruits with the importance of giving them a sweet flavor. Durian or noni are savage fruits and have more nutrients that an apple. Let me ask you something, what frutarian looks younger than Brian Clement with the same age that him?
@durianriders ,for as long as humans be around what makes you think humans ate a mostly a fruit diet ?? Most fruit is seasonal .By the way i don't consider avocado and tomato a fruit, tomato was called a fruit hundreds of years ago so it would or would not be taxed !!
@RawFoodGuy99 Seasons only happen outside of the tropics. Tropics(equatorial) are where most primates live, including humans before some migrated. It's always summer there, which is where our bananas, papaya, mangos, etc come from year round.
Yes, Tomato classification was changed for ulterior reasons, but it was changed to a veg, not fruit. A fruit is a part of the plant where seeds reside.
@durianriders You do a lot of good work for the 801010/fruitarian community and I really respect that, and you seem like a 100% cool guy, but your biggest fault is that you ALWAYS fly off the handle and resort to insulting people, or criticizing them, if their opinion differs from yours. Just remember that nobody's perfect!
@durianriders hey, harley; how long have you been eating 30 bananas a day for? seriously, my fruit phase was like for 1 strong month, then i'm slowly got off of it. granted i had 2 bananas, which was a shock 2 me. but man i just ask, not, because i'm worried, i ask because Your Still Alive. i would of.. you know.. not made it that long, off of sugary bananerz. GL2u.
Deficiencies? The test are based on results form people who probably have imbalances already. The question should be asked. Was the guy suffering from ANY disease or symptoms, not what his blood level was.
The fact that his vitamin D levels were low in Florida suggests that he was doing many things wrong. I would not be surprised to find out that he was simply getting too few total calories, staying out of the sun, not exercising, and perhaps eating a lot of fatty fruit (eg. avocado). I know too many very successful fruit-eaters to let someone whose diet is not even made clear affect my choices.
OMG ppl are sooooo dumb......eating fruits and veggies are the only foods that clean you, and help you provide your body with vitamins and minerals it needs. the ONLY reason that this kid had deficiencies is because he does not know how to eat correctly....

True. I live on fruit, and I also will say that most people who do this are not doing it correctly. I think seedless fruit and unripe fruit are the bigger culprits, not simply fruit.
starseed84 2 years ago
Fruit has been hydridized for centuries and it also often picked before ripeness..
i travel with Vitkoras Kulvinskas and have worked with Vitkoras for 30 years. Even Viktoras does not advocate a diet of only fruit. If it worked Viktoras and Brian would be in favor of it.

@paulaontologist ppl ppl we are different people with different chemistrys and mainly fruitairian diet may not be for you but this one size fits all mentality must stop!!! especially in the raw vegan community...
sinnerpeace 1 year ago
@paulaontologist They are constantly giving lectures and traveling. They have a hard time getting exercise in. Brian Clement is 60 years old and looks awesome! He can bench over 400 lbs. Dr. Gabriel Cousens is almost 70 and can do over 600 pushups after not eating for four days. They are both against consuming massive amounts of fruit. Fruitarians are usually skinny and frail, going bald, and wrinkly. Who wants to look like that? Look at Dr. Doug Graham.....yuck!
777TylerJB 1 year ago
@777TylerJB I was gonna say Look at Dr. Doug Graham. Did you see his new vid: "Doug's fitness stunts". I dought Clement can do that.
Yea, that one person has wrinkles.(maybe too little water retention). I've been high-fruit for 17 years, I'm 43 and not one wrinkle

SecretsOfLongevity 1 year ago 3
@paulaontologist he actually looks pretty healthy to me; suit n tie, well mannered; eager to to help us. I don't thin living off grocery store produce is possible; there's just 1/10 the nutrition in our greens, and everytime we piss, we piss out all those precious minerals. but you learn mr fruitarian, just as i'm learning, the way of the greens and the sprouts. - jack green.

let's see this "young fellow" and determine how he's doing/feeling/what is his diet / history, etc. 2 doctors talking about someone in the 3rd person mean nothing to me. will the "brave young fellow" being discussed here please post a video response so we can see you?
bybex114 2 years ago 5
brian clement is a douche. he doesn't have that raw glow you get from eating fruit. fruit contains natural mood elevators, vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, fibre. it's all good stuff.
trkrichardson 2 years ago
Especially the Berries are fantastic foods for Humans . Clement is correct that many Raw people eat too much Fruit, and then because of that they suffer alot of TEETH PROBLEMS but by itself Organic Fruit is excellent of course
ACEBAKER911 2 years ago
yeah i agree maybe too much fruit is bad only in this day and age. i think before it was hybridized fruit alone would be fine. i like the david wolfe approach of a balance of fat greens and fruit and his emphasis on mineral rich food but i'm not into the whole powder thing. cacao makes me drink insane amounts of water. its ok very occasionally but not an everyday "super food" but i think some things like chia, fresh aloe and real foods are super and awesome everyday in small amounts.

Gotta eat the leafy greens, can't get around it.

Have you EVER hear of vitamin A overload from eating healthy amounts of greens. By healthy I mean about a pound every day. You know what foods can give you vitamin A overload? Animal foods and supplements

I have cancer dont I need some suger in my diet or not
domenicomason77 3 years ago
still cancer or dead? or raw?
Mongodelight 2 years ago
sound like it makes sence thanks doc
domenicomason77 3 years ago

Thanks
10jedyny 2 years ago
I think in the case of cancer a low-sugar low-glycemic raw vegan diet would be best. Sugar weather from junk foods or raw foods can feed cancer.
starseed84 2 years ago
Dr Joseph will you supply background of the participant and/or a peer reviewed article documenting this case study?
It was "interesting" Vitamin D was low. This warrants background info beyond: "he lives in Florida." Yet, "it may warrant future analysis." How can you hypothesize without background data?
I searched Pubmed & could not find any of these studies & thought this was odd since a "team of medical drs & nurses" did these studies.
No hypothesis/discussion of anemia explanation?

test my blood champ. its premium fruit and green. who is this fruitarian? was he sicker a year ago and on the mend now? is he obese or an athlete? living on avocado and tomato or keeping it 811?
dude your fat, your blood looks shot before we have a look.
EVERY CELL IN THE HUMAN BODY IS FUELED ON GLUCOSE AND FRUCTOSE..fruit is the best source for humans..
durianriders 3 years ago 37
Dr. Brian Clement have an important argument, the modification of fruits with the importance of giving them a sweet flavor. Durian or noni are savage fruits and have more nutrients that an apple. Let me ask you something, what frutarian looks younger than Brian Clement with the same age that him?
nefandix 1 year ago
@durianriders Hi durianriders, how long have you been on your diet? Have you already got your blood checked if so what where the results.
Be honest please, thank you
Inflamsx 1 year ago
@durianriders ,for as long as humans be around what makes you think humans ate a mostly a fruit diet ?? Most fruit is seasonal .By the way i don't consider avocado and tomato a fruit, tomato was called a fruit hundreds of years ago so it would or would not be taxed !!
RawFoodGuy99 1 year ago

Just remember that nobody's perfect!
gogogogogo69 7 months ago
@durianriders hey, harley; how long have you been eating 30 bananas a day for? seriously, my fruit phase was like for 1 strong month, then i'm slowly got off of it. granted i had 2 bananas, which was a shock 2 me. but man i just ask, not, because i'm worried, i ask because Your Still Alive. i would of.. you know.. not made it that long, off of sugary bananerz. GL2u.

Deficiencies? The test are based on results form people who probably have imbalances already. The question should be asked. Was the guy suffering from ANY disease or symptoms, not what his blood level was.
gold95 3 years ago 5
The fact that his vitamin D levels were low in Florida suggests that he was doing many things wrong. I would not be surprised to find out that he was simply getting too few total calories, staying out of the sun, not exercising, and perhaps eating a lot of fatty fruit (eg. avocado). I know too many very successful fruit-eaters to let someone whose diet is not even made clear affect my choices.
Thanks for the concern though.
