I'm amazed at the people who thinks the production on this song is bad. Of course its bad, it was done intentionally. Not all music has to follow the crisp clean guidelines that emerged in the 70s. Just listen to the song as it is and you really hear how fantastic it sounds. A beautiful voice like Scarlet Johansson's being able to stick out in a mess of grit and echoed confusion. Its adds so much dimension to the song and gives it character.

But whatever. We're all entitled to our own opinion.

she wasn't "kind of" asked to sing this song, she was absolutely asked to do it. steel train has an entire companion album to steel train with female singers singing their songs. it's not like any of the artists just up and volunteered to do it, she was asked to do it. she's an actress first, not a singer, so it's not like she just goes around covering her ex boyfriend's music for fun anyways or as "a slap in the face."

and i think she did well. her voice sounds great... and i find her cover a bit more emotionally connected than the steel train original.

i think people just need to open their minds to alternative voices and musical styles. Yes their version is shit good... but scarlett's seems alot rawer and more organic. .

yeah i can understand that her sound would be obviously quite different. i do like Scarlett i don't have anything against her and i actually like her other stuff including with Pete Yorn its just that you do have to see how awkward that might seem what she did even i herf ex thinks your voice would be great for his song and i wonder what Ryan must of been thinking when she did it especially when her and Jack and have history and he even sings about her too in his music.

Also, i think the entire make up the original is more "raw". For me, her version is a little to electronic to be "raw" for me. But i see where you're coming from.
