  • Very English very very good

  • R I P Clifford

  • Pioneers of the acoustic version, hehehe.

  • wonderful......genius.......pity noone can come up to him

  • The man had such a way with lyrics. Hopefully Simon Cowell and his robots never discover his music. Then at least it will be safe from the dreaded tuneless cover version ! Live long in the memories Clifford

  • love and peace

  • recognised by me and us AND ours our kids love him at 24 and 22 years they don't kn hwo his he is but love his songs

  • he never got the recognition he desreved , hope you all agree

  • Please could either of the 2 ppl that voted "Dislike" ..... contact me and expain just exactly,WHAT there is to dislike ,then I will be a wiser person for it !!!

  • Wow how great is this song - how soon we forget what an excellent artist CTW was. He paints pictures with words, so clever and so articulate

  • I'm in my 60s but I have his greatest hits CD and can honestly say that every track on it is priceless and excellent, and I can't say that about every disc in my collection. Clifford really sang thoughtful songs about everyday things. May he rest in peace.

  • Composing music, and original songs, the guy was a God!

  • I dig the hair.

  • Great to see this again , still makes me feel like crying , beautiful!

  • He contracted Multiple Sclerosis and eventually died in 2001 as i remember. Very sad.

  • I heard this song for the 1st time last week on the radio and was struck dumb by it's beauty and simplicity,--I once heard a very wise man say that...."any IDIOT can make life or indeed,anything-- complicated - but it takes a real GENIUS to keep it simple" Clifford proves that with this song !!

  • @helltopay1 iv never been in to that kinda thing ,but if that floats your boat ? good luck to you, but trust me on this it is much better to give than to take,

  • @helltopay1 i no lots of people that could use £50 prob more than you could give it away you will feel a lot better

  • @helltopay1 what is the point of a stupid comment like this ? if you dont like it why listen?i hope life deals you some good cards you compleat and utter knob head

  • great wee song reminds me of my youth .

  • CTW wrote so many brilliant songs. It's amazing he never became more popular. Listen to "A Day to Myself" from the album Escalator. He was a teacher from Worcestershire in England.

  • The man was a genius.

  • @MattyDoable ...you're not wrong fella...he wrote so many brillaint songs.

  • brilliant songwriter.

  • whts wth all the language mate, no need for it

  • I really like this song, but I'm not sure a woman would be flattered to be told that she looks like a picture by Picasso. Maybe it was the only artist's name that would scan properly.

  • what a talent he is sadly missed

  • huge talent

  • A legend sadly overlooked by so many. My parents remember listening to Clifford's music in the late 70s - such a great voice and such a shame that his life was curtailed by illness. A true talent.

  • Clifford sadly missed but never forgoten. ..Simply the best...I'll never forget you me friend.

  • fair play homethoughts..

    take care..

  • I listened to all his LPs in the early 1970s. John Peel introduced my flatmate and me to his music on his late night shows in those days. It is wonderful to have rediscovered him.

  • Sorry, sorry, did'nt realise he was dead..

  • Thank you for getting back and saying sorry, it takes a good person to do that. Although Clifford would not be your "Cup of Tea", to may he is the best songwriter ever.

  • He had such a lovely voice, nice timbre to his voice...

  • listen to " Home thoughts "

  • Never heard of this guy untill recently when someone (a Nick Drake fan) told me about him , now I'm hooked. Beautiful songs.

  • yes I'd put them both in the same bracket..wonderful singer songwriters and fine modest young men too...why cant todays brash artists carry themselves with their dignity and humility. So sad they have both left this world...

  • I remember listening to a lot of his stuff on an old 8-track cartridge in the early 70's..

  • I keep coming back to this beautiful song , Homethoughts , i hope everything is well with you , thank you for your your lovely reply .

  • Cliff made three incredible albums for the CHARISMA lable between 1973 & 1975. "HOME THOUGHTS" , "MANTLE PIECES" , and "ESCALATOR". These l.p.s contain the finest collection of songs ( in my opinion ) he ever recorded ! I have all of his musical output , there are gems on each album , but , i always want to here the beauty and depth to songs such as "Home thoughts" , "Where's it going to end" , "The way of love" , "Not waving, drowning !" etc. Lovers and romantics, check this boy out !!

  • This is my favourite CTW song. He is an absolute legend and all his fans will never forget him ever. He was a teacher like myself. It all goes back to the early 70's. Only the good die young. Keep it goiing, Scalpsie. Richie B.

  • This guy really could write songs , an absolute genius. Thank you so very much for posting it .

  • Apparently, fans calling to his country residence were promptly invited in for a coffee and a chat.

Try and catch any contemporary pretenders extending that courtesy.

CTW was also, I believe, quite a nervous performer, which makes his presence even more of an achievement.

  • Thanks Clifford, makes me remember why i ever married the old woman. Guess she forgot about the pots and pans!!!

  • What lovely song! I love Clifford and his wonderful songs. Sad to hear he died so young....

  • RIP forever Clifford Thanks for the music....

  • Huge thanks for posting that. I worked on the Kiddy Shuttle with Derek Thomas (middle guitarist) and it reminded me of thursday lunchtimes in the Green Man with Brian, Dee, Hugh, Malcolm, Dave, Pete and Derek and others including the blokes from the Times.

  • wherewithal is my fave song

    love this guy

  • I did so enjoy that thankyou, very much for posting

  • After many years suffering from multiple sclerosis, then a period in hospital with pneumonia, Clifford T Ward died on the 18th December 2001.

    RIP

  • Absolutely stunning - beautiful English whimsy. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Lovely song ,I'd lost it for years, thanks for posting.

  • What a talented man Clifford was.Its very tragic what happened to him,but his music will live on forever.Excellent..

  • @Stevo736 what happened to him then?

  • that is a fucking great song. so beautiful. why don't people think this way these days?

  • Fantastic. Haven't heard it for years

  • Simply brilliant!

  • Steve Wright just played this great song on Radio 2, Clifford was such a great talent and is sorely missed.

The video may look dated now, but his songs will live on forever.

  • A really super classic by Clifford T Ward. 5*****

  • Thank you kindly Dave... Always love receiving CTW video's xoxo

  • what a man!!

  • reminds me of my dad, being on long car journeys when i was little and my dad playing clifford's cassette in the car

  • Can i just say that when this song was first released i thought it was 'wet' but now as a grown up i have to say that like all of his songs this is just the most amazing poetry . what a sad loss he is to music . Thank you for giving me the chance to see it on you tube.

  • DITTO !!!

  • susad...or is it so sad. what a complete fuckwit. hope you die soon.

  • You low life piece of shit, Why should anyone deserve to die in a horrific plane crash. Nobody forces you to listen to this. Moron.

  • Light hearted ? I don't know what makes you so stupid, but it really works. If that comment is your idea of a light hearted comment. I dread to think what you would write if you really wanted to say something offensive.

If you didn't like the song then just say it.

You're lower than a submarine shit house but I still wouldn't joke about you dying in a plane crash. Retard

  • Unfortunately this talented and underrated singer/song writer died of pneumonia in 2001 after battling against Multiple Sclerosis since 1984.

  • Susad,

You are such a dick. How can you make a comment like that about anyone. If you don't have anything nice to say, I suggest you say nothing. You idiot.

Everyone should mark your comment as spam and block you. I will be reporting you to YouTube too.

    Have a nice Life.

  • What a dick head!

  • My other alias is colonelblimpuk!

  • Thanks for the confirmation paramanjara

  • Did he write/sing a song called Jigsaw Girl? I agree he was underrated, maybe because his image wasnt of an egotistic, self-indulgent ROCKSTAR.

  • Yes he did.

  • Heavenly! I love this song so much :)

  • Beautiful song, always comes over as melancholy, seems quite a sad guy, greatly underrated, pity he isn't still around to be still appreciated.

  • a great talent for lyrics. sadly missed

  • a legend and icon more of him less of pop idol shit resting peace

  • One of Worcestershires finest sons & a bit of a hard case as well !!!

  • too right son,up the ammers. love ctw

  • "The best wordsmith this country has ever known, vastly underrated and sadly missed"

Agree totally metserve.... very few pass our way with his gift, a great pity not many saw him walk by.

  • The best wordsmith this country has ever known, vastly underrated and sadly missed

    Alan B 4.7.07

  • Not only that, Alan, he was also one of the most exquisite (as well as witty) melodists of his generation. (Distinctive too! Who else could have written Coathanger?)

    Much missed!

  • I loved his song, Gaye, from 1973. And Home thoughts from abroad is a beautiful song. Sadly missed. x

  • He could have even written a beautiful song about a toilet roll!

  • Exactly! (He almost did - think of 'Coathanger'!

  • a classic, shame hes no longer with us
