  • haha the cat meows funny. maw lol

  • Q for u- My vet and I have been working to get my cat's diabetes under control for about the last 6 months. We've actually put him on a new insulin because the first kitty insulin we tried didn't seem to have much affect on him even after we upped the dose. Anyway- in the last month or so he has developed some neuropathy. The biggest issue right no is that he doesn't squat when he goes potty- he sits & his whole backend gets wet. Any advice on dealing with that until the diabetes gets resolved?

  • @MMLschool

    1) Home test your cat's blood sugar

    2) Eliminate ALL dry food

    3) Supplement B vitamins

    4) Use an appropriate long-lasting insulin (e.g., BCP-PZI, Lantus/Glargine, etc)

See my blog for more info

  • i had a run in w/ high bld sugar and cured it by eating nopale cactus, raw. it lowered my blood sugar into normal levels and i can eat a lot of what i want.

i was on a 80% green leafy vegetable diet for 5mos which helped, but the cure was the cactus. now i can eat fruit or drink milk , even eat cookies w/o my bld sugar going up.

so, why can't a cat do the same thing? check out gabriel cousen's website for further info on supplements to prevent/tx neuropathies and the diet for diabetes.

  • @medini2 i know cats are different, but, research it. just don't take anyone's word that diabetes is not cureable. i am proof that it is.

  • @medini2

    Yes it is. ^_^

    Don't believe the pharmafia!

They just want money out of your pockets.

  • @SuperRated420 True. i don't BUY stuff off cousens website, lol. his "cure diabetes" book can be found on the internet as a pdf. and, there is "some" info there.

yes...they ALL want the freaking money. cats eat certain types of grass if they are allowed to go outside, to regulate their "glands". My cats never touched the grass u buy at PetSmart or wherever.. They need exercise and stimulation, too. People give in to dx of diabetes, for lack of knowledge.

  • @medini2 for starters, because cats are carnivores and do not process plant nutrients like humans (omnivores) do. In general, just by eliminating dry food from a cat's diet and feeding wet food only, the diabetes will go away - sometimes insulin is necessary temporarily to bring down blood sugar levels

  • @lynetteack raw meat and fish and dehydrated sprouts, green beans, etc.

but, i am relieved to hear that just eliminating dry food will cause the diabetes to go away!

    thank you for that info!

  • poor thing.. :( hope he's better now

  • Thank you so much for this video. I started believing today that my kitty has diabetes. she's got the weakness in the hind legs, extreme thirst and urination, very bad dandruff on her back and is lethargic. I am definately going to be asking the vet when we test her blood tomorrow about tight regulation. Having cared for a diabetic dog several years ago, I didn't think I could go through it again, but if there's any chance tight regulation works, I'm in - and my little Libby will be saved.

  • such a loving cat and doing well. i hope mine gets better soon, we just started insulin.

  • I dont know if you can give me some advice, my cat is not crying in any pain my vet thinks it could e a slipped disk but I dont think so, he is dragging his back legs behind him but has since got a bit better but not by much, I dont want to out him to sleep till I know what it could be, I want to give him a fighting chance, he is eating fine going to the litter tray fine but he is drinking a lot of water every day and he is not dehydrated, he likes stuff like icecream could he be diabetic? Help.

  • A simple urine test will show if your cat has glucose in the urine (is likely diabetic). Has your vet performed blood and urine tests? x-rays? That is what I would have done if I wanted to try to find out more about my cat's condition.

    Best of luck!

  • Thanks for the reply, no the vet didnt do any blood tests urine tests or x-rays she was saying it could be a slipped disk, it could be a tumor it could be a clot on the spine, the worst part was she said have I thought about putting him down and I said no it's not going to happen till I know for sure what it is, she couldnt feel any lumps on his back and like I say he is not in any pain and to look at him you would think there is nothing wrong, he's a Norwegian Forest Cat and a loved one.

  • Perhaps your cat had a stroke.

  • that is so great that you're helping him like you are with his condition. there should be more people like you in the world!

  • You are a kitty angel!!!! My own kitty, Grrray, is off insulin and no longer on his hocks either due to tight regulation, too. Please give Mr. McDreamy some chin scratches from me!!! What a sweetie!!!

  • Thanks texsjeff!

The key is getting blood sugar levels down. Are you home-testing his blood sugar levels? If not, please consider it.

I practice "tight regulation" so I use only wet food (canned or raw) and get BGs to as close to normal as I can with insulin. Neuropathy seems to be caused by a water-soluble vitamin deficiency due to the high blood sugar levels. As you can see, it *is* reversable, but blood sugar levels need to improve for that to take place.

  • Great vid. I have a cat with diabetes, insulin hasn't done the trick regarding the neuropathy, gonna try methyl-b12 vitamin supplement hopefully will work out like McDreamy!

  • awesome vid. glad to see it!

  • You are doing wonderfully with McDreamy.

    Venita

  • Thanks Venita!
