this is totally lame. emotionless. sanitized. and totally not representative of the great tradition of kayagum played in korea. this person should be embarrassed.
This particular instrument is known throughout Asia but in different forms, the Japanese so or koto which is a distant relative to the qin, the Korean komungo, and the Vietnamese dan tranh. This variety of instrument came in two basic forms, a type that had bridges and those types without bridges. The type that was most known in China was the qin.
The koto was first introduced to Japan in the 7th and 8th century from China. It originated in its earliest form in the 5th century. It was a very popular instrument in the Northeastern part of China. The first known version had five strings, which eventually progressed to seven strings. It had twelve strings when it was introduced to the China and increased to thirteen strings when it was introduced to Japan in the early Nara Period (710-784).
well Kayagum is not so far away from American Culture, cus we still teach it here at UCLA! however, the Kayagum has changed, nay transformed from its older roots into something completely changed and whose older, Korean or Japanese? thought so.
This is reeelly cool. I definitely agree with someone's comment earlier...Kayagum's sound can be quite powerful. Obviously the modern Kaygum also does wonders too for the addition in richness to tonality and texture. I am not sure who this performer is but I'll definitely make an effort get a copy of her stuff. Lately when I've looked for Kaygum music here in the US you only find very limited stuff. Thank you to whever posted. Very cool!!
hmm yeah i was expecting her to be sitting down in Han-Bok but i guess this worked beautifully as well. with cello, guitar, and piano! sounds sooo good :)
Verse 2
On the mount of crucifixion,
Fountains opened deep and wide;
Through the floodgates of God’s mercy,
Flowed a vast and gracious tide.
Grace and love, like mighty rivers,
Poured incessant from above,
And Heaven’s peace and perfect justice,
Kissed a guilty world in love.

Words below:
Here is love, vast as the ocean,
Loving kindness as the flood,
When the Prince of Life, our Ransom,
Shed for us His precious blood.
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He will never be forgotten,
Throughout Heaven’s eternal days.

Her face I have no comment, but her skills and her figure are quite good.

Yes, she is. As you know, her younger sister, Ha-neui(Honey) Lee, is also a wonderfully talented Kayakum player.

這支影片真是顛覆了我對 伽耶琴 那傳統難聽的印象
非常優美 讓我百聽不厭
k3349552 4 years ago
