I remember I was about 15 or 16 in 68 or 69, and rightafter the release of Harper Valley PTA, I got to interview Jeanne. Not at all my style of music but I worked for a local TV station connected to the one of the greatest theater venues at the time KRNT Theater. I was also a young budding journelist for the Lincoln High School Railsplitter. As you may imagine it was quite a thrill, we even made the 69 year book with one of the shots (pics) taken that afternoon. Sweet as could be and thrill

haha. never heard this one from her before. i picked up the harper valley pta album at a flea market once in highschool (i'm 24) and fell in love with her sound and the straightforward and realness of her songs. this fits right in. the girl most likely to get in a (ahem) jam! love it. ironically, i was the girl voted least likely to get in a jam. and at 17, well, wam bam and love struck eyes, i was in a "jam"! at least with the Lord's help it worked out for me.

Jeannie sings only gospel now. She has had major battles with depression, but she is an on fire Christian. The songs and the dress, was just the era for her time. Does anyone but me, think she looks ALOT like Priscella Presley???

The one two punch of Bobbie Gentry( Ode to Billie Joe) and Jeanie C. Riley( Harper Vally PTA) put country music women on the cross-over map. In 1968 Bobbie had three gold records, Jeanie two. Loretta and Tammy each had only one and the catalog of the great Patsy Cline had none.( Patsy's greatest hits would go gold in the 1980's off the power of the movie ' Coal Miners Daughter) Stars like great Connie Smith would never attain the sales to push an album or single to gold record levels.

@danieldrownr : yes that's what I am always trying to remind people that believe someone like Shania or Carrie were the first to ever sucessfully do so. But we CAN'T forget all the great ones from that era and in between that did it first. Don't forget the others legendary artists like Lynn Anderson, Barbara Mandrell, Mary Chapin Carpenter that did so , so sucessfully as well!

Take 40 year old record label promotion with a grain of salt. Capitol put out a full page ad in 1970 claiming Bobbie Gentry's ' Fancy' ( #31 pop, #26 country #18 ac)had passed the million unit singles sales mark yet the riaa could only verify sales of 800,000. I know that Plantation shipped over 500,000 singles but stores sent back to the label what did not sell .

How cool is Jeannie C, she looks like a life size barbie doll. I LOVE the silver mini-skirt and silver go-go boots! this song brings back such great memories. A #1 country hit, crossed over to the pop charts, and hitting worldwide! A gold selling record in the USA by todays standards. I remember seeing her live as a child, she wore all silver like this, I was awe-struck, Silver was my favorite color from that point. This is my favorite clip of Jeannie ever! LOVE JEANNIE C.
