May I add to go to the Microsoft web page for the instructions on how to restablish the Catalyst Control Center. This will allow you to see all your original files again.

i tried the SuperAntiSpyware to remove the rogue program which is XP Total Secure 2011 that infected my computer...and it really worked....but...there's a small problem...after the scan. it said that i must reboot the computer inorder to totally remove the rogue program...then after that, whenever i started google chrome, a box appears telling me to OPEN it WITH what program.....i don't know why is this happening...this happens to even all of the programs in my computer..pls HELP ME!..thanks:)

I encountered the fake anti-virus problem. All that I did was start up in the safe mode and did a system restore.

@InThe11thDimension Sorry I should have mentioned that after the system restore a full scan by an antivirus program is required. I used Microsoft Essentials. It found two severe threats and removed them. Be sure to to use a full scan! The quick ones will probably miss the problem. You will probably have to do another system restore first. Fingers crossed I have had no problems since.

i got a new one but its pretty much the same thing. I have AVG and I hear AVG was the best... guess not cuz it doesnt protect SHIT. I log in under GUESS account and downloaded both (Malwarebytes Anti-Ware and Super Anti-Spyware and they have not removed it. (they removed other viruses). Most of these programs dont let people open task manager, or install any new programs, or get to msconfig. I always do safemode first to disable them, then malware bytes to remove them.

yup fo sho this program does work is legit some guy from school lend me his computer so i can see how i can take out some viruses and their appears to have been and rouge anti-virus program installed didnt let me access any files or open anything saying that it was infected so i just installed the malware program and in an hour it only found like three files and that was the .exe file to the program. and it work perfect after thanks. :)

malwarebytes doesn't always work I had a fakealert trojan hit my computer scanned it with malwarebytes and microsoft security essentials both said my computer was clean. So, malwarebytes is a good free program but doesn't always work Also, both programs were updated too.

Okay, I'm going to fix all of your problems right now. Download WOT add-on for your browser, and if you get an alert from it saying a site is "bad" then trust it, it is bad 9 out of 10 times. This way you won't get the virus' to begin with.

because norton security sucks as do a lot of paid programs i have never gotten an infection and i use spybot search and destroy and avg free edition and i take my browser off road but the malwarebytes he reccomends is good too. i love how these programs find some real things... identified tracking cookie (OMG!!!!) security risk VERY HIGH  lulz
