We bulgarians are the oldest slavian tribes in the world. The Slavic alfabet was invented by St. St. Krili and Metodii and their students spreaded in the other slavanian countries. But each country has own dialect so that makes the diferences between us. Originaly the slavic alfabet is bulgarian and thats the whole true. Russian, Serbian, Macedonian and etc comes from Slavic Alfabet which is bulgarian :)

djchardo is sorta right, but to be more precise, bulgarian language is part of the eastern slavic languages,to include, croatian, serbian and russian, this is why there are similarities amongs them. Romanian in other hand, is part of the latin tongues, the same as italian,spanish and french, but phonetically sounds much like a slavic language.
