After the loud, banging shit, followed by the plucking shit, it starts to be somewhat cool, but overall it's nothing special. There are interesting harmonies at times, and there's some cool shit happening around 3:20.
I've heard this dude thinks quite highly of himself. I think he should show a little humility.
its difficult to play an instrument in a particular 'genre', in which certain people have defined it in such idiosyncratic ways, without sounding like some of the greats. i'm sure cecil inspired/influenced him at some point or still does.
@freejazzfree: true, I would say that the greatest musicians don't consciously think about genre at all.
my 1st comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek so it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, but I see what you mean that his style/approach is actually quite different
