@amh426 - Tony? That's Ray Bennett, former Flash bassist, playing lead guitar. He used to trade licks with Pete - note for note. Maybe you're thinking of Tony Kaye of Yes who played as a guest artist on the first Flash album, but was never a member of the band. Thanks for commenting - I'll pass it along to 'the boys'.
Sherrynoland, thanks for your response. So Flash being "sick" refers to being totally awsome, which they are!. I saw them in Union NJ with Ploursent Leech and Eddie opening. With no Tony Kay, Peter had to play his parts as well as the key parts on the guitar. Philadelphia would love to see ya! I'm not a promoter, but know some venues and can get a street team organized if need be.
@kimockfan - Hell yes! Go for it. Power to the people! Flash got started the first time around because a single disc jockey in Boston personally made a shortened single version of "Small Beginnings" (the record company was dragging its heels) and kept playing it until Capitol got behind it, and the rest was history. They were playing stadiums within weeks...
Wow, they sound GREAT. I saw them back in the fall of 1972 with Peter playing both guitar and keyboard parts, they were sick! The group sounds terrific. Colin never sounded better. Thanks, and what about an east coast USA tour. Would love to see them!
@kimockfan - Sick? Is that pro, or con? Doesn't sound too good, but I'm not sure. But Ray Bennett tells me Pete never played keyboards on stage. No one did. We're hoping there will be a tour soon. Nothing booked yet. Any promoters out there? Contact FLASH through 'flashbennettcarter' on myspace.
@kimockfan It does sound great. Most groups which come back take a lackluster approach. I'm pretty darn excited about this. Colin not only sounds good he is looking great.
Flash is officially back! They did a great set at the ProgDay Festival - a mix of their classic songs and new tunes, as well as a rousing rendition of the beautiful "Nine Inch Nails" hit, "Hurt". They closed with this favorite - "Children of the Universe", and a standing ovation! Well done, lads....
FLASH will be making their first official appearance since the reunion headlining at the ProgDay Festival in Chapel Hill, NC on Sept. 4, 2010! Go to progday.net for details and tickets.
Prog day ?? N.Carolina. Sept- 2010 I"m In KY> Makes sense to me.! Let's all get them to be " Top Of The Bill" as the Scorps once said !! Lets go "Flashers" Help us. And Sherry like I said before I am ready to Roadie> I am 54? 5'11 -225 and in shape. I am closing my music store on Sat for good and I'll be looking to get my foot back in the music door.I look like a rock star and I can learn all the bass parts too.
I remember my brother sitting down for hours at a time copping those Ray Bennett bass runs from the "Out Of Our Hands" LP ("Man of Honor" in particular). Our old band used to play "Lifetime" and "Black and White" from "In The Can" back when the album first came out! We did it 3-piece. The guitar player had 10 fingers on his left hand. He used to play the original guitar harmony from "Lifetime" on 1 guitar! So glad to have these guys together once more. I'm off-the-hook excited.
I'm hoping Rick throws that ARP solo in the middle of the tune instead of the organ when all is said and done. That was such a huge part of the cut. Also, I missed hearing the first line of "Eleanor Rigby" in the beginning of the guitar solo. Unbelievable for the first run though!
I'm in SW Las Vegas. I think I heard them rehearsing up here! Incredible footage. I'll make sure all of the old fans on my end know about the reunion! Thanks.
I'm not all that interested in "reunions" that features one or two member from the actual band, but Bennet and Carter seem to enjoy themselves really good and shows lots of enthusiasm, so all of good luck to them. I love all three of Flash' albums.
The band sounds really good! Good to have them back on the scene. Although it'd be nice have Banks and Hough back in the fold as well, it's better to have the music! I do kinda miss Ray's distinctive bass work, though!
Thanks for commenting, 'Moses'. There was a great effort to get all the original members back together, but it just wasn't possible. Nice to be remembered and missed.
Perhaps Wayne Carver will show you some tricks of his own...and Ray on lead guitar!!!! Can't wait!
Ray was originally a guitarist, so this is very satisfying for him, and for Ray and Colin to be able to pick up where they left off (prematurely)....a dream come true!
Ray Bennett posted this comment on the flashbennettcarter myspace page:
"For old Flash fans, a note of explanation :
The other two original members: guitarist, Pete Banks and drummer, Mike Hough initially were interested in being in this band, but each in his own way later decided it was not what he wanted to do. Colin and I however were totally delighted with the idea and clicked right back into it. Continuing down this road just seemed like the right thing to do.
Keyboardist Rick Daugherty absolutely kicks butt! I've known him for almost 25 years and think he's absolutely the best musician I've ever been associated with...hoping for more video where we can hear him better.
You never get to see bands like this rehearsing! This is a great 'inside' look at how it's all put together behind the scene! Thanks for posting this. If it sounds this good on the first day, we can't wait to hear how it's going to sound by the time they take it on tour! Thanks for an inside look at a rehearsal! Very cool.
It's great to see Flash finally making music again. This is very impressive. The band has a lot of energy and drive. Great players!!! If you ever come to San Fran we'll be there. Love ALL the new material too!!! ('10K' is super!). Will there be more posts????? HOPE SO!!!! Best of luck to Flash in 2010!!!! This is great! Glad you're back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And this was a FIRST run-through!! I was so impressed with Mark Pardy (drums), Rick Daugherty (keyboards) and Wayne Carver (drums). These guys are hot!!!
Sherry, they are GREAT!! My God, they haven't lost a lick!! I really like the addition of keys, and Ray proves that he can sure keep up with the "Great Peter Banks"!! Thanks so much and Merry Christmas, Chuck
These guys sound like they are 20 and hungry. A,mazing.
