I grew up on the Peninsula and moved to Downtown Norfolk later in life for a few months, and I do have to say it's a great place to walk around at night as long as you stick to the Waterside & Granby St area. The only problem was how dead it could be most of the time. Even on a Friday night most of the bars and restaurants weren't even half-full. There was this nice little Irish pub on Granby but I can't remember what it was called. Oh well. I like the Wash DC area much better anyway. :)

Norfolk is a lovely place to live, in my opinion. It's my hometown, and I suppose every person feels their hometown is the "best", but it truly is a beautiful community. If you ever go, check out downtown, Chrysler Hall, Harrison Opera House, Doumar's on Monticello Avenue, Chrysler Museum, Norfolk Botanical Garden...it's a great town!
