  • thank you for posting this and letting me know about it. this song is great, heard it in the past. Sammy Davis had an amazing voice. May many people the world over learn from and about him and hear his awesome voice!

  • The consummate artist both now and forever.

  • im crying from this

  • RIP Sammy Davis Jnr.This is a wonderful performance.Wonderful talent

  • The saddest part isn't that video has 3 dislikes, but 510 likes.I mean people are forgetting what has to be remembered forever...Anyway,Sammy is one of the greatest and nothing can change that!!

  • what a beautiful voice

  • I am 64 years old now, and I saw this great artist live at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, New York — in the summer of 1967, at age 18. It was the most memorable night of my adolescence, on a date with my fiancée, and he sang this song, among many others. I was almost destroyed by the musicality, intensity and passion of his singing. I felt he was my real musical role model—his book "Yes I Can" was as important to me as The Autobiography of Malcolm X, in different ways. LUV YOU Sammy!

  • @infrantasi And I sat not 10 feet from him in the first row!

  • nice song and an amazing man and voice !

  • the vocal he displays in this video...send shivers down me...absolutely flawless

  • Thrills, chills and tears - what more can you ask of a performance!

  • One of the GREATEST entertainers in the world A+ version of CLASSIC song!!!

  • I love his bravado... such a showman

  • the voice of god

  • 2 dislikes? are they stupid?!!!! sammy is the greatest!

  • Is there a better performance of this song??

  • HE HAD ONE EYE!!!! :D

  • @IcyFlipper His mother was from Puerto Rico..His religion was Jewish & black, now there's a WELL INTEGRATED PERSON! NO WONDER HE'S SO TALENTED..

    PAX VIA MUSIC..VIVA MARIA!

  • Trying to decide who has the better voice. Dean Martin or Sammy Davis? This is a wonderful song. Bing Crosby had a good voice for his generation but Sinatra was better than Crosby over all. I think Sammy is better than Dino, but Dean was a better performer. what do you think? Andy williams can't touch any of them...

  • @thelionshares1 Dino a better performer? I am sorry but Sammy is perhaps the best performer ever! and i love Dino too. but i think Sammy is the best.

  • @thelionshares1 I think Sammy had the better voice but Dean was the better showman..they were both amazing

  • Quite simply, every kid who is considering a career as a singer should be made to watch as much of Sammy as possible before picking up a mic. If for no other reason than to teach by example. One of our true treasures in this world.

  • Oh Sammy you were so great, but so underestimated in your times!!!!! Keep singing in Heaven for every angel and God.

  • @eguzmaldo I am afraid that the biggest "underestimator" was Sammy himself. He sought approval from people who should have been seeking approval from him.

Self esteem issues? I don't suppose we'll ever know

  • What amazing talent and class. Such a flawless ability to perform.

  • Great !!!

  • No one comparable then or now

  • Magnificant performance!

  • i wished there's still singers like Sammy Davis today. such a powerful voice. rendered it sitting down is the trademark of really a great singer. I love sammy!

  • I love Sammy !

  • Wow- The greatest entertainer of all time. What a voice-what range-Sammy did it all. We miss ya Sam.

  • Sing it, Sammy!

  • SWAGG!!!

  • Wow I could relate to those lyrics

  • "Spectacular talent...; unparalleled performer; amazing..." mmparker is right: No more needs to be said about Sammy Davis Jr.!

  • WOW UNREAL,HE IS SO UNDERATED AND PEOPLE NEED TO SPEAK MORE OF THIS MAN AND WHAT A GREAT TALENTED ENTERTAINER HE IS A TRUE LEGEND AND I MISS HIM GREATLY,ONE IN A MILLION

  • SPEECHLESS!!!!!!

  • The most talented man in the world...ounce for ounce.

  • Sammy survived the holocaust... SHALOM!

  • Sammy is REAL!

  • I played littlechap once,, loved these songs,, what Sammy's got over everyone?,, he's lived a life with pain,, even with Britt at is side,, and the emotion shows so well.,, RIP SAMMY

  • Simple yet spectacular!!

  • I love the way Sammy Sung this song because it's full of emotion which I think is lacking to some modern singers.

  • We simply appreciate people who are bless with talents like Sammy Davis, that doesn't mean that we don't like the songs of other singers it's just that fortunately we've seen this one and made our comments as we appreciate it.

  • . This is unbelievable, awesome, touching and simply beautiful. What a great BIG talent in such a small body.

  • 2 people don't know what great music is when they hear it.

  • WHAT A FANTASTIC SONG AND PERFORMED BY A LEGEND

  • Well I've certainly given it a shot - and he's got a terrific voice and, judged by the live performances I've seen, a great sense of humour too.

BUT... his songs tend to be, well... dull. I wouldn't say monotone but they are all so similair and on the brink of boring.

  • @HanSomKan1 Then you are a TOTAL ASS HOLE !!! FROM ALL AMERICA WHO LOVES HIM!!

  • @HanSomKan1 i would suppose that beautiful singing like sammy davis jr is more important than riffing and screeching like chris brown or adele

  • @DylHsu God no, I hate modern music! But there are old timers that's not dull such as Elvis Presley, to whom I listen A LOT to.

  • @HanSomKan1 your opinion is not the be all end all. personally i find elvis' music overly simplistic and unstimulating. what you like is not what everyone else likes or should like. what i like is no better. neither sammy davis nor elvis are dull. if you personally don't like something that's one statement, making arrogant statements is another statement entirely...

bottom line: don't run around on youtube telling other people what music is good or bad

  • Comment removed

  • Is it just me or does Sammy look like the image in the Shroud Of Turin?

  • superior talent never dies, thanks for the vid

    sammy was superb, always

  • Spectacular!!! Amazing singer!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what kind of a spectacular singer he was

  • Bravo Sammy.....love you.

  • When I was a youngster my step mom was in the cast of "Golden Boy" and i hung out with Sammy, Johnnie Brown, and the rest of the cast. Heady days for a little kid!

  • They had Sammy.......we have kylie!!!!!!....It just doesn't seem fair.

  • One of the greatest performers of all time. Sammy was magical, especially here with his signature song. If you want to see a very special performer sing this song, look up Charice singing "What Kind of Fool Am I" here on Youtube. She is spectacular.

  • I'm 15 and I wished todays music would be like this... :( Love it! ♥

  • @classregister I LOVE reading comments like these... Bless your sweet, teenaged heart, my dear. You REALLY need to have a good long talk with my daughters! lol

  • @classregister I was 12 when this song came out.The 1960's were an amazing time to be alive in the USA.Also,it isn't just music:Sports and politics are real disasters as well.Medicine is much better, though.

  • Amazing voice....

  • Bravo! What force of voice.

  • frank sonatra + Sammy davis = The true master Race.

  • STILL MAKES ME CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRAVO!

  • One of the greatest male vocalists of all time and all around entertainers, right at the top of the "A" list. And that's coming from an Irish guy.

  • Never will you see some one as talented as Davis- not ever

  • Superb all i can say

  • I love Dean Martin but Sammy Davis had a better voice than Dean. Martin's voice was exceptionally smooth but not as dynamic as Sammy's. While he could certainly sing "What kind of Fool", he wouldn't have sung it with as force as the Sammy.

  • Tremendous singing! One of greatest singers and probably the most talented all around entertainer.

  • simple, best entertainer, person ever

  • The greatest singer I have ever heard

  • at first i thought he only screwed up when he avoided saying "what kind of eyes are these", but then i remembered he only had one. a completely appropriate change of lyrics.

  • 1 word wonderful

  • bloody timer at the bottom! cannae take my eyes off it!!

  • We will never see spectacular talent like this ever again. Anyone who watches and listens to this unparalleled performer..and doesn't feel him reach right in and grab you....is deaf dumb and blind. God he was amazing! Thanks Sammy...we love and miss you!

  • He owned it

  • Holy shit, his voice absolutely blows my mind. As for sheer energy of personality, I think putting him and Bobby Darin on the same stage was risking some sort of showbiz apocalypse.

  • Awesome! What can we say? Sammy had it!

  • Sam was the BEST! Bar none! Pound for pound or any other way you want to judge, Sam IS the MAN! We miss you so much Sammy - RIP you beautiful person you. You befriended us and we loved it! What a great time knowing you. Love man, love. US A/A

  • Sammy Davis owns this song. Nobody else has ever come close to interpreting the song as Davis did. To say Davis is better than Sinatra or Martin is a bit of stretch - all three were amazing singers, each in his own individual way. We'er lucky to have all three of them grace us with their incredible talents.

  • This brings me to tears, he was one of the greatest singers I have ever heard. He was so much better than Sinatra , Martin etc at the time, so so underrated

  • very classic!

    btw. Regine brought me here

  • I said it once before on another listing of his - But Mr Davis is the greatest performer to ever grace the American stage ... looking at this it takes you breath away - he spews T-A-L-E-N-T

  • @ahstc1973 Worked with a guy ten years ago, who said Sammy was the best all round entertainer ever. I hadn't heard him sing much until recently, and I would rate his voice up there with the best, also. Get goosebumps every time I hear this song. LEGEND.

  • Yes I loved him what he offered to me toooooo

  • WHAT FEELING!!!!!!!!

  • be still my heart!!!!! Wonderful!

  • Wow. Doesn't get much better than that. What an arresting performance.

  • Damn.

  • he cusses at 2:49-2:55

  • Underrated voice! Frank had a powerful voice but @ 3:00- 3:17 he really shows his strength. Great dancer, musician, impressionist but could've easily made a living on his singing alone.

  • why cant any one pick this song to sing on idol, got talent ect? maybe cause they cant, he is a ledgend

  • this man is the greatest entertainer I've ever seen!

  • he's d best and rarest singer ive'd ever seen n heard/ his passionate deep voice ,, face and body coordinated w/his true feelings of what really he's singing w/c will caught you breath takingly amazed of how good he really is. he's alive and well for those who really know how to appreciate an extra ordinary singer.

  • he's d best and rarest singer ive'd ever seen n heard/ his passionate deep voice ,, face and body coordinated w/his true feelings of what really he's singing w/c will caught you breath takingly amazed how good he really is. he's alive and well for those who really know how to appreciate an extra ordinary singer.

  • @dolly244 haha...i agree with you...he's dominant in this version ..but i think , the other version of this song is also beautiful...the one that is performed by regine velasquez...

  • 0:16 - LOL

    Amazing song!

  • How could anyone dislike this? Sammy's the best.

  • I dare anyone to show me this kind of talent today! There is NONE. Thank God we have YouTube. PEace

  • @dolly244 You're so right!

  • Epic. Such power.

  • It's been said for so many years that certain songs are owned by certain singers ;I certainly think ,that can be said for this one with sammy. The power he brought to the stage with this, and several other tunes is simply fantastic.

  • Thank you for posting this version. I heard Mr. Davis sing this in Las Vegas years ago. Of all the postings of this song, this is the best I have heard!

  • Truly one of the best entertainers ever ... and in my estimation .. THE BEST

  • It was such a different time when singers could sing live and sound just as astoundingly as the recorded version!

  • Those Andy Williams shows were great.

  • This guy was pure genius - as long as YT exists, he will have a devoted audience.

  • Andy Williams was pretty wonderful himself!! : )

  • He makes me cry every time I hear him sing this.

  • WOW!

  • WOW!! WOW!!!!

  • Wow!! No one, I mean no one now can sit and sing a song like that and still hold the audience. Pure talent! No half naked girls running around(not that its a bad thing, lol) And your so rivited to watch him bear his soul to you-gives it all without smoke and mirrors..Thanks for sharing this gem.

  • Dam, he sung the hell out that shit

  • 2 people don't know what music is.

  • @thechairman123 I tell ya... these "2 people don't have good taste in music" - type posts are just great! I, for one, can not get enough of them. Each time I read one, it's like I'm stumbling across one of these precious little quips for the first time. As I am generally adverse to original commentary I can only hope people keep on posting these things for ever and ever.

OMG! I have 64 characters remaining to type!! And 144 people like this video! I love the Interwebs!

  • Excellent video of him, I am a big Rat Pack fan, and that is my most favorite song by Sammy Davis jr. :)

  • Hairs on the back of my neck stood up!

  • @Janco6 same here he is just awesome what a voice.

  • Wow.

  • just a great song.

  • Although Sammy was often referred to as the greatest entertainer at his peak, I still think there is so much more to discover. He had the body of a dancer and is rightly credited as one of the best. But his voice is the overlooked gem. This performance is an extremely difficult arrangement of this song. It's hard to sing, but he nailed this thing live and he didn't pull back or alter the arrangement. Now that's a voice!. That's the difference between good and great!

  • Sammy was a better singer than most of his contemporaries. He was overly humble with entertainer talents that were truly great. A booming voice in a small body.

  • Sammy will be forever great. I have always loved this man. Can anyone upload I'll Begin Again

  • @crazyhorse99999

Sammy was underrated. He still hasn't gotten his due. As some say 'Sammy was 20 years too early'. I never knew he did I'll Begin Again. I'd Love to hear that.

  • @JerseySurvivor Hi You can find that recording on his box set The Sammy Davis Story. Sammy led the way. Everyone else stands in his shadow.

  • That WAS AWSOME! Been on a Sammy Kick the last few day's and I'll be honest I'm only now discovering how spectacular he was!I'm 32 better late than Never right!

  • @Branzo29 Welcome! I've been a fan of his for quite some time now. Definitely better late than never!!

I, too, have been on a Sammy Kick!! Be sure to check out his performance of "who can I turn to" if you haven't done so already!

  • @Branzo29 --- i feel u man im 18 and i just recently started hearing him thnx to a commercial tremendous Artist and Man the guy was just so great love him and what he offered

  • @Branzo2 You're fine, my Friend —I find that everything comes to you when it's your time to 'get' it —So, this is your time for incorporating the Wham of Sam into your process of becoming —enjoy...

  • @Branzo29 Both, u and I, have been on this "Sammy kick!" I've always heard the name, but never really sat down to witness the talent of the man. He was simply untouchable.

  • @Branzo29 Me 2 ! ive been on a Sammy research 'high' and even got a couple books on him and one that he took many pics through his carreer called "photo by Sammy Davis, jr" This man was no less than awesome and wonderful person. I didn't know him personally but what I know, I love !

  • This amazing man came to Australia to perform at our local telethon to raise money for charity and people still talk and remember his genuine talent humility and the greatness that was Sammy Davis jnr he can never be replaced. Remembered with love always.

  • It's so pleasing to see more and more people discovering who Sammy Davis Jr. was and what a tremendous talent we are sorely missing today. Thanks, YouTube.

  • Sammy was the BEST! What a GIANT of a multi-talented guy he was!!! Thanks for posting..

  • No lip syncing here!! Unfortunately, with the disappearance of the many small venues that used to feature live music over the last half century, young singers and musicians have nowhere to practice their craft, and find their voice, so to say. Entertainers really used to be seasoned by the time they reached the big time.

  • Has there ever really been anyone that can sing and emote a song better?? The world lost an amazing talent but Heaven is definately richer with This man...

  • THIS IS EXXCELLENT!... AND I LOVE THE PURPLE AND BLUE BACKGROUND.. :)

    SILLY RABBIT!.... :)

  • I rarely comment on videos but this Sammy to one of the great musical genious' that have walked the earth. The feeling behind the lyrics make it relateable and enjoyable! It is rare to find artist who put a great deal of passion behind their work (outside of Christain/Gospel), but this was an all around great performace!

  • Thank you for posting this. I watched it a couple of times tonight.... it's one of my fave SDJ songs, and the ability of this man never ceases to amaze and astound. The gusto, the passion, the emotion-- if I had seen him perform in real life, I would have given him a standing ovation. As others have commented, he was talented in many other ways as well. Again, thank you for sharing.

  • Engelbert Humperdinc can challenge Sammy on singing, but not dancing or acting,,LOL.

See his video What Kind Of Fool Am I - 1972 on TheENGELBERTChannel

  • Wow! BUT, his singing talent was just a small portion of the man's overall talent. EVEN TODAY I cannot think of anyone who approaches Sammy on over all talent and skill. The man is the definition of the "Triple threat" possessing extreme skill and talent for singing acting and dancing. He was also a comedian, and was a very good impersonator. Then when you add the hardships that a black man had to endure in the 60's and 70's..it is just unbelievable.

  • @Allinfun6789 So true. George Burns said that Sammy was the greatest entertainer he'd ever seen, even better than Al Jolson. That's such a tremendous statement, given the performing calibre of Jolson, who was also one of the all-time great entertainers.

  • beautiful.

  • Come back and dance, Sammy.

    Bravo.

  • The most underrated singer of all time period !

  • SUPERB performance......

  • I got the chills listening to this!!! Beyond wonderful!!

  • This is my fav. version of this song.... Man what a voice!!!!

  • love it

  • Hewas so amazing, he always gave me chills with this song.

  • He was really great. What a super live performance.

  • what a perfomance! what a song!!! thank you

  • I miss you Sammy. for those who are interested in learning more about him, read his book..."Yes I Can" I read it many years ago and it made me fall more in love with Sammy.

  • A big big voice from a small man, Brilliant Sammy x

  • gives me chills. amazing vocalist....

  • Sammy Davis Jr. is the greatest entertainer that ever lived and this song is my favorite song ever sung.

  • what can you say, the greatest voice ever

  • Imagine that this has been done a long time ago but still there is no male singer who can do a better version of this song than Sammy Ole Boy! Love his voice. I personally think he is the best singer of the Rat Pack.

  • how come no idol's x factors, anyone has talent has tried this song?

  • The greatest entertainer to have ever lived.

  • Pure Magic, I love Sammy Davis Jr.

  • Ain't no lip synching there.

  • Idol Judges want contestants to sing from their heart sbut most of these 16 year olds do not understand the feelings of disappointment and pain. Most of these people are fresh faced farm boys or girls that has not experience life's difficulties. It has to come from the heart and soul and if a singer doesnt understand this-he or she is no singer. Life's experiences is the great equalizer

  • @creolelady182

Couldn't agree with you more! Mr Davis had to put up wth so much rejection from the entertainment industry because he was Afro-American. However, this experience gave depth to him as a human being. His performances came from that deep place. It's laughable and quite pathetic to expect pubescent (possibly spotty) teenagers to ever approach such heights.
