I just listened to this on iTunes. Mixed perceptions, really. There were times when he made it appear that he cared about what happened but this was dismissed by his constant comic antics which I feel had no place in it, the reading of letters was fine since it showed how many people missed the point. Towards the end he shows his notions for writing it by mocking people from Atlanta. But what I feel truly sums it up is "with my publisher on the left and my fiancé on the right".totallyInsincere!

@ConnecticutsBest It seems that you may, also, have missed the point...too bad. Guess the only logical thing to do would be to actually read the book. Perhaps that would help to clarify the context of the "tongue and cheek" humor, so cleverly used by the author, in this address.

I'm just reading the book and I'm amazed at how much traveling, searching and patiently asking Edward Ball put into it, not to mention writing down a couple of hundred pages.

Dismissing all that on the basis that the man has a sense of humor? That sounds badly like someone who never wrote more than a five page school paper and doesn't have the foggiest idea of how much work actual research (no, not looking stuff up on wikipedia) takes.

Okay. So that guy spend years talking to people, searching through dozens of archives for birth and death records, traveled to africa and waited weeks to talk to people there... but you listen to a speech of him and decide that, no, he can't possibly be serious about it all because he has a sense of humor.

Conneticuts "Best"? Not very flattering for Conneticut then.
