i dont know witch one is better, they have their mood, maybe the slow and clean guitar tones on the record fit more with the lyrics but i thing they should play the solos and some "energic" parts on the final record too.
This demo is a real piece of crap comparated to low man's lyric final version which is a masterpiece ! no emotion here and james 's singing is really awful !!!
thanks for posting , really interesting to see how metallica can change shit into gold !
@Fawkesthemutant Actually i think the demo is better than the crappy hurdy gurdy original. This song should have been a classic metallica ballad not the crap it turned out to be.
everybody says that Load-ReLoad are bad albums, but i think they had big pontential and a sentimental Metallica that in albums like Kill Em All was turned off. In this 2 albums they feels free to do anything that they want.
apparently this demo didn't make the initial Load tracklist and when ReLoad was being finished off after the Load tour it was re-recorded in 1997 with the hurdy gurdy etc - a mistake, it should have stayed 'electric' with the solo IMO.
i think the album version is about a homeless heroin addict asking for forgiveness for what he did. im not sure. but the demo and the album version are both real good
No, he never touched the stuff. in a recent interview, he said he has only ever touched weed back in high school, apart from alcohol, obviously. He has never snorted injected any powders or pills, even coke. I think this song is more deeper than drugs. Probably more like a letter he has wrote expressing the guilt and sorrow he feels for the mistakes and fuck ups he's made in life.
and the beggining of the solo from 4:08 to 4:13 is...oh my god sounds i don't know, like justice style and it's so musical only they can make that,it matches like a glove, why did they put that out...i don't know, that part it's god...
This song kicks fucking ass.... i listen to it as maaany times as i used to heard low man's... none is better than th eother, both are GREAT in their way...!!!
You know, if you're going to criticize art, at least put some rationale behind your emotion. Saying you hate or are annoyed by something is very weak without saying why you think it makes the piece of art weaker, less powerful or have less of an impact than it would alternatively. Come on Xmetalearth, don't stop there; tell us what you really feel!
@Xmetalearth Yes this sound in the background destroys the album version and takes all the power from it . The frist demo That is better than the real song
This definitely has a more "traditional" Metallica feel and approach than the version they published. It's too bad artists don't put out albums that consist entirely of original, alternate or unabridged versions.
this version is pretty good although some of it feels combersome. Both versions are fine. Both are good in their own way. The finished version is intimate, emotional, and a fine power ballad like a bluesy/country-ish..."Nothing Else Matters". Metallica sounds great not heavy as well as heavy. by evidence of this, soemtimes in two versions of a song
I have heard both versions of this album, before and after bob rock, The before version was WAY better and same with every other version he got his mitts on and I think PLENTY of people would have heard of metallica without him,I could name lot's of bands that made it big just by the fans alone, you make good music people will listen.I can see the definitive line between before and after bob rock, anything after just lost its old school thrash charm...AKA the black album.Thousands will agree
yes i didnt say that they lost their trash "charm" alls im saying is that metallica are one of the biggest bands in the world because of bob rock, they went mainstream with the black album and hundreds of millions of people wouldnt have even started to listen to their older stuff if it wasnt for the balck album.
Well, Its still good music...Its just not my taste anymore, And you do have a point he is a good producer...BUT... his taste in Thrash metal....Or metal or rock...Or what ever he calls it is a bit screwy..lol. I see it like getting kicked in the balls and then having to jam in the studio....Ouch:(
Yeah I was behind on the news!how long ago did this happen? I'm actually looking forward to there new stuff again...I'm hoping that what I heard of the new shit is just to throw people off of the real stuff though;)...lol because I think that was bob rock stuff;)
Well, if you're using your EYES to judge the album, then I'd say you're going about it the wrong way. If you use your ears, perhaps you'd hear shitty drumming and lackluster riffs - not to mention laughable lyrics - "Love is a four letter word!"
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yea, when I first heard that song I though they actually made another kickass album. Then that line came up and I realized that the day MetallicA comes back is the day that never comes.
I agree that this song has a much more powerful kick to it, whereas the album version doesn't really have one. However, taking into account the actual meaning of the song, I think the album version depicts James Hetfield as the low man much more clearly.
Nevertheless, bad audio quality or not, this version is quite awesome, and stays true to the heavy metal genre. Then again, Nothing Else Matters was never a bad song in any way, regardless of its lack of heaviness. Right, lads? :D
Yanno I wasn't saying it was bad.. I was saying it was too bad that Bob Rock messed it up for them. This has much more emotion and convey's what Jaymz felt when he wrote the original lyrics...
