My two cents. The United States Air Force was established in 1947. The United States Army had the Army Air Corps from 1926 to 1941 then changed to the Army Air Forces from 1941 to 1947. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to this day the United States Army still have more aircraft and more watercraft than the United States Air Force and Navy.

@Estwaldvaati Good point, but please let me explain. I went through US Army Ranger School (class 3/94). Before Ranger School, or any other training, a Soldier must go through Basic Training first. And yes, I think Basic Training was harder than Ranger School because it changed me from a weak civilian into a strong American Soldier, which is very hard to do. I swear my Drill Sergeant was the Antichrist. 22 years later I still hate and fear him. But he did his job very well.

I did that in Slovenia from city Maribor to slovenian-hungarian border in Hodoš thats about 85,4 km but we didn't go straight so it came up about 120km at the end. We did that in Slovenian boys and girls scout organisation. I was carrying 45 liter rucksack + all equipement strapped to it, first it rained like hell and then it was very sunny. Maribor is at 273m terrain level and hodoš is like 258 but in between there is allot of hills we had to cross and ofcourse lowlands.
I was 17, i'm 188,5cm high and i have 94 kilos, i had good stamina cause i worked in the in Slovenian forest Service as the district forester and walking and running is pretty much eveything you do there and terrain is not always the same.

Well if you have a good backpack, well balanced then i suppose it shouldn't be a problem i really enjoyed that hike, if you cut out the shopping we had to do for food when travelling, we got water from the people so that's about 4 days i know its not fast
but for teenagers, i was quite impressed and i don't want to brag.

@Pjeteh allright! the walk was spread on 4 days! which is an average of 30 kms per day which is completely feasible for a strong man like you :) well, i will do a 30 kms walk with my 80 pound backpack but not for now, i need further training. 60 kms with 20 kg + the famas is tough!especially if you don`t have a strong upper body and trained achille tendons. I got a very bad experience while trekking in Canada as my achille tendons were not ready for the tough walk they went through.
@gloupek9 At the end of the first day walk, they ended up blue/black color. the 5 days that followed were excrutiating! each step = knife stabs in each tendon. I am fit and like you i train 4 to 5 times a week and i can bench press 7 x 220 pounds and push 10 x 440 pounds at the leg press...but even though trekking with a heavy backpack is another challenge...thanks for ur time it inspires me to train further...greetings from France

I am in the military and I promise you guys as easy as this may look, It is not at all.. even without all of the equipment, the speeds that you are sometimes required to move at is quite difficult.

I'm naturally pretty strong, sturdy, very fast/agile, listen to what I'm told etc, but I have always had trouble learning other languages. I failed french in high school. Would I be able to learn french in the FFF?

@Estwaldvaati Good point, but please let me explain. I went through US Army Ranger School (class 3/94). Before Ranger School, or any other training, a Soldier must go through Basic Training first. And yes, I think Basic Training was harder than Ranger School because it changed me from a weak civilian into a strong American Soldier, which is very hard to do. I swear my Drill Sergeant was the Antichrist. 22 years later I still hate and fear him. But he did his job very well.

@Pjeteh Where did you do that? and for what? what kind of bag? how many liters or cubic feet? what did you carry? under which climate (cold, warm, shiny, rainy, windy) what type of terrain (sea level, mountain, flat, steep,rough, smooth) how old were you then? what`s ur height & weight? i`m just interested because it is a very strong performance, i walk once a week with an 80 pound high tech backpack at sea level and covering 10 miles is a tough job! in spite of me being very healthy & strong

I did that in Slovenia from city Maribor to slovenian-hungarian border in Hodoš thats about 85,4 km but we didn't go straight so it came up about 120km at the end. We did that in Slovenian boys and girls scout organisation. I was carrying 45 liter rucksack + all equipement strapped to it, first it rained like hell and then it was very sunny. Maribor is at 273m terrain level and hodoš is like 258 but in between there is allot of hills we had to cross and ofcourse lowlands.

I was 17, i'm 188,5cm high and i have 94 kilos, i had good stamina cause i worked in the in Slovenian forest Service as the district forester and walking and running is pretty much eveything you do there and terrain is not always the same.

Well if you have a good backpack, well balanced then i suppose it shouldn't be a problem i really enjoyed that hike, if you cut out the shopping we had to do for food when travelling, we got water from the people so that's about 4 days i know its not fast
but for teenagers, i was quite impressed and i don't want to brag.
I'm also a firefighter voulenteer and I workout 3-4 times a week

@Pjeteh allright! the walk was spread on 4 days! which is an average of 30 kms per day which is completely feasible for a strong man like you :) well, i will do a 30 kms walk with my 80 pound backpack but not for now, i need further training. 60 kms with 20 kg + the famas is tough!especially if you don`t have a strong upper body and trained achille tendons. I got a very bad experience while trekking in Canada as my achille tendons were not ready for the tough walk they went through.

@gloupek9 At the end of the first day walk, they ended up blue/black color. the 5 days that followed were excrutiating! each step = knife stabs in each tendon. I am fit and like you i train 4 to 5 times a week and i can bench press 7 x 220 pounds and push 10 x 440 pounds at the leg press...but even though trekking with a heavy backpack is another challenge...thanks for ur time it inspires me to train further...greetings from France

I watched the first part of the documentary and was stuck to youtube until I had seen them all. The French Foreign Legion have always been a well disciplined fighting force, they accept individuals that others around the world would never give any chance in life. Their code of honour shows true honour and respect and demonstrates what diversity really means, none of the bullshit that we see in business these days. The FFF is fucking badass. I'd join it if I didn't have much to live for, but I'm not going to join it, because I do a lot to live for lol.I might join it one day though. I think I'd make a good soldier, or 'legionnaire' as you call it. I'm naturally pretty strong, sturdy, very fast/agile, listen to what I'm told etc, but I have always had trouble learning other languages. I failed french in high school. Would I be able to learn french in the FFF?

- first, they don't expect you to speak it like I do.
- then, the Legion sometimes teach to uneducated peasants so I think they can teach to everyone, no matter their intelligence. And you are an educated personn so it will be easier with you.
- You failed learning French in class, but in a place people speak French every time, you will improve much because you will have no more choice =)

@TheAremo reply5: but once you get to your regiment you're treated more professional. a lot of guys want to leave in/after basic training because they dont get "rambo" training... basic is just that: being a soldier. learning how to clean your quarters, weapon, basic infantry tactics/movement/camouflage, and more cleaning. building up your endurance, forming you mentally etc. but once in the regiment the cool stuff comes. so to everyone who goes and is taken: DO NOT leave just after castel. you
