LOL I worked in the cancellations dpt at AOL. We were trained that if the customer said CANCEL 3 times, you just cancelled the accnt. This guy is a moron! (the worker, not the caller)
its more of a salesmen thing like ive worked telemarketing and thats how your supposed to handle someone canceling service, the aol guy did take it a little far by telling him he had to listen to him i think at that point it was more of an ego thing.
your have to listen to me if you want this account turned off? are you fucking kidding me? that guy is a true ASS HOLE. no!!!! fuck that!! if i want my account cancelled, i should be able to have it cancelled without this shit!! i dont understand people like that. who do you speak to about firing that guy?
you are not alone. I had tried to cancel my AOL account, the entire account including the Internet service, AOL had been getting on my nerves when I was told why do I want to cancel the service and I simply said I do not need it anymore. Everybody should pull the plug for AOL. you do not need to say why you are canceling your service. just a simple okay and thank you for being our customers. I had switched from AOL dial-up to Verizon DSL and it is better than AOL.
this is why the AOL account now subtracts from the company I work for we are the best of the best. unbelievable how this rep behaved!!! I myself had bad experiences from the old reps, now AOL wisened up and is using a WAY better subcontracter!
John is not the problem here. The guy calling seems to have serious isues. Everybody know that an call center employee must ask this questions and try to "anti-churn" the customer. The customer of course realize this and can still be polite AND cancell his account. It's not hard unless you are method acting for "Psycho 2008".
In the end I think that John getting fired was the best thing that could happen to him... AOL suxx! :-)
I did training for one of T-Mobile's call centers and they TRAIN you to do everything possible so that people will not cancel as well as many other forms of blowing smoke for various reasons to put it nicely. Needless to say, I decided not to remain there after seeing this.
Me too. It worked well. I still had access to AOL for a few more months, but they couldn't bill me. Oh, and it wasn't me who closed my credit card. It was the financial entity through which I got the credit card. They cancelled it and sent me a new card because somebody tried using my card account number for a purchase (Scarey), but it worked out well. For me AOL rotted from, prior to, day 1 to the last day. I could go on for hours about how bad they were.
man i had diz happen to me i wunna cancel aol muzik cuz i wuz done wit tha 'free' trial n dey send me to 4 differnet bustaz when i be call dese roaches i heard dem laughin in tha background sumtymes
based on there costumer service i can see why. you should never have to explain why you want to cancel and account, i would have talked to a superviser, its fine to ask why your canceling but if they dont want to explain then o well. the rep should have never spoken to him like that ever! i would have spoken to his boss
@tonyrueb Yes and No, it depends on the department. If you speak with Tech, then they don't give a rats ass about "why". but if it's the billing/retention then they have a Target, and they are people like you and me, they need that target to get the salary. believe me. life in a AOL phone support is NOT FUN.
@albigjino - yes, but guess who gets paid more? That's right, the boss... Wouldn't you rather piss away more of AOLs money if they will treat you like that? Perhaps if you waist the managers time they will figure out this is not the way to do things.
You can also simply say I refuse to answer questions this is your notification I want the account canceled, I will not pay for any more of this service. And if they still give you a hard time, just hang up. Dont worry, the conversation is recorded.
omg the same thing happened to us. i HATE aol, and their internet service was always cutting off. ugh, it was a horrible experience. and afterwards it took forever to get all of its software completely removed from my computer. DON'T GET AOL!!!
i am 19 & recently working as a customer representative at AOL in one of the contact cnters based here in the Philippines.Watching this, it is really freaking annoying. It is rily a gud thing that AOL made major changes in rgards w/ call flow. It was a yr ago since this incident hppened & AOL learned a lot from this call. I am looking forward for more changes from the company. Also I feel bad for the AOL members who were aggrevated.
Haha I literally gasped when he said the both ways comment. We had AOL for a good 2 years after we tried to cancel it because they kept giving us free months lol
Think you are cool being with AOL? Hold down ctrl and press f4 to see how many friends AOL really brings you. Hold down alt and press f4 to see what grown-ups would like to do with AOL. Nice vid.
Oh and by the way, I am losing my job because they are outsourcing to India, this is how much AOL really sucks.
And yes AOL will give you a buttload of free month, and if you ask they will lower your price to like $5-$10 for unlimited dial-up. or free if you have your own connection.
So many people still pay them $25 even though they give new people 9.99, because they don't tell people when they lower the price. If they raise it though you can bet your price is going up.
So if you want to really cancel tell them you don't and they by law have to send you to us, and if you say to us "I want to cancel" we WILL cancel it immediately no questions asked in under 1 minute.
I have worked for AOL for 2+ years, and yes their cancellations (or saves/retention as they call it) department sucks. I now work in TPV (third party verification). Basically the FTC stepped in and set up my department to help the problem. So if you do want to keep your account you have to speak to us so we can make sure you wanted to keep it.
I totally understand this! I had aol once and they kept giving me free months too. The only problem would be if you forget to cancel before the free months were up, then they'd charge you. (and then you call to cancel..and it's the same thing again)
AOL, or SOL ( s#/+ out of luck )as it's commonly known amongst my friends IS indeed pure evil. Vincent got off easy. When I canceled AOL 10 years ago it took me 37 minutes of similar abuse, and at the end I was told to hold for the confirmation code. After holding for another 8 minutes the line went dead. Not wanting to risk still being their "customer" I called back and it took another 15 minutes to reach a person who said that there is no confirmation code. I've never looked back.
This happened to me... they kept giving me free months. "Well, we'll give you a free month so you can make sure you don't want it." "Heck, okay." Next month, same thing. I got five free months out of them before decided to just get rid of it.
Haha, yeah if they give you trouble just say "I'm recording this and I'm going to post it on the fucking internet if you don't cancel my account without another word." Fucking bloodsucking motherfuckers.
AOL alwayws switched my account to 10 hours/month, so I got this bill of $54 a month. That's crazy! For that price, I can get extreme cable. AOL is the most WTF ISP that ever exist
why dont you just go for aol basic dial up which will cost you USD 9.95 amonth. unlimited dial up usage, unlimited usage of aol on top of a high speed internet etc etc.. that way may be your bill wont go up that high. or switch to a free AOL if you already have a high speed internet,
Honestly , this happened to me and they quoted me my usage, and I told them that I only used it for messaging and they asked me about my cable company? Why, This sounds a lot like the call that I got when I tried to cancel my 90 day risk free trial on the 47th day.
aol can kiss my a. i canceled about 6 months ago. the part that confused the hell out of me was that i had called them previously and i deleted everything of aol from my old computer and bought a new one, (and got a better internet provider) and when i started getting more fees from aol i was pissed they said that they previous month i had used aol for 300 hours. long story short, there gone.
they should make a music video out of this "CANCEL THE ACCOUNT MOTHA FUCKKAA!!!!" and a group in the back saying dont gimme no bull shit that would be awsome
I may be the odd-man-out here but it sounds like you were a royal jerk. If you were actually using the account you were just lying to him then not letting him talk and recording the call. Looks to me like this is more of a prank call than something to actually complain about.
