RIP an watch over us need you now

  • 1990's, Bluetones, Ash, Oasis, Blur

2011, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kesha, Justin Bieber

I can't put my finger on the time things first went wrong.

  • @DionysianUrge tell me about it

  • um I felt like a outcast listening to this in 1996 in the US while others were still on recycled grunge or crap nu-metal hip hop...feels good to know I was right

  • the essence of the pure pop

  • When I am sad and weary

When I think all hope has gone

When I walk along High Holborn

I think of you with nothing on.

  • Just saw them in Brum on the farewell tour - oh man, they've still got it. I can't think of many contemporary bands that play that tight, write so poignantly or in Mark's case, sing that well live! Thanks guys - it was a heck of a ride!

  • Just saw the fair well gig in Manchester awesome concert to end an awesome band!

  • Saw them on Monday (12/9/11) @ Newcastle, simply awesome. Sad end of an era.

  • Bluetones R.I.P.

  • Reminds me of Shooting Fish. Love that film... even if it's a tad soppy.

Still, it beats all recent romantic comedes - egh.

Why wass everything so much better in past?

  • Run out of superlatives for this song.

  • gonna miss you guys, many memories over many many years

  • cant beleive they are splitting up. Seeing them for the first and last time in september. I can and cant wait. Wierd "blue" dichotomy.

  • Brilliant brilliant band. 4 eva. Bluuuuuuuuuuuue Army!

  • I love the fact they would come on stage to Poison by the Prodigy. seen them in Cardiff in a club the size of a phonebox a few years back. We were chanting Blue army Blue army! Their faces were a picture. Great, great band.

  • Anybody remember Sky Sports using this on Netbusters in the 90's ???! or am i the only saddo ?!!!

  • @markpvd I can remember the life of riley being played to death on football focus then mate!

  • I just want to watch Shooting Fish every time this song is played! Love it!

  • The 90's were OK. Just OK. Right now is amazing and blazing with light.

  • @JeredtheShy right now? pshhhh... even the 80's were better than today. the 90's and 70's were where it was at.

  • @JeredtheShy - LIES! How can a time when autotune is considered 'cool' be better than a time when tunes like this were top of the charts? A time when I could actually listen to radio 1 without turning the radio off in disgust at horrific atrocities that are current pop 'songs'?!

    *feels prematurely old, I'm only 23 :( *

  • @RohanTheTeaLover Ignore the radio. You guys are selling yourselves waaaaay short. I've heard so much amazing shit in the last ten years it's not even funny. People can put together entire albums of top shelf work without the permission of label heads, unlike the 90's. Artists can do whatever they want, however they damn well please, and they can find you, and you can find them. These days every band is Fugazi. Genius is everywhere.

  • @JeredtheShy - I do ignore the radio, but I wish I didn't have to. I know LOADS of awesome and talented bands out there at the moment (flipron, 12 stone toddler, kaizer's orchestra, to name a few), and the amount of good (in some respects) that the digital revolution has had. But you can;t deny that there is a vast and overwhelming wave of utter bollocks being pumped out all the time, and that there was a lot less of it (or at least the general public didn't think it was good) in the 90's.

  • i feel like crying to be back in the 90s these days are shite compared !

  • We took this CD to Ibiza in 96 and it was the best holiday of my life. Quality memories! Not just for the CD but the 1st holiday without my parents with my mates and having some top times!!!

  • I was 18 in 1995. what a year, a scorching hot summer and the rise of BritPop. Happy days!

  • Damn, I forgot how good these guys were, Expecting To Fly was a frickin awesome Album

  • @laurenmcintyre - Still are, I think you'll find, they still put on a damn good live set, and Science & Nature is an excellent album (though that's kinda old now too). :D

  • @CaptainSmilev2 Saw them in Gloucester last week, how good were they !!! still amazing, the place was jumping, especially when this came on.....

  • There best by far, fuckin top days, swannin round town with ur mates off ur tits havein the time of ur lives, adidas 3stripe, levi jeans, an to top it off a pair of gazelles on ur feet, an you was ready to take on the world, HAPPY FUCKIN DAYS

  • agree with you 100%, im 35 this year, fila bjorg, lois cords and adidas 3 stripe, yes, i feel like raving.

  • @thenewfella1994 agreed

  • Heard them in Scott pilgrim and learned they were a 90s band. No wonder i like them so much!

  • Proved once more in Glasgow tonight that they are still an excellent band to enjoy live, with a great bunch of fans.

  • And, i cant put my finger on the time things first went wrong.

I feel so F*CKING related to this line.

  • @punkgalician Your not alone !!!!!!

  • Weezer anyone? lol

these guys are great. wouldnt have heard em if not for Scott Pilgrim.

    Thanks Scott Pilgrim!

  • @IcarusCinematics Weezer my arse.

  • Brrrrilliant! Thanks for the up!

  • wannabe ian brown/ gallagher bros vibe here but nowhere near as good

  • @RichJones88 but these were out and about way b4 them and were they got there sound from! these are the original

  • Brilliant- thats all I can say

  • Not heard this in so long I'd almost forgotten it altogether. Superb track, sheer class, brings back so many memories. Thanks for uploading this.

  • shortly after my suicide attempt, this song came out and everything made sense. i particularly could relate to the line - you may not like my message or my reason, but you cant tell me that i'm wrong....

  • One of the best. Legends.

  • when this album came out i listened to it 24/7 for like 2 weeks.

  • fit!!! my fave band still! and have been since 1996!

  • great song.... it catapults me back to the 90ies ♥

  • compare this to N-dubz, jesus what happened?

  • those toilets are in a service station on the M1!!!

  • This is in my top 5 Bluetones tunes, for sure. x

  • where the fuck are my gazelles ??

  • Best band ever

  • GOOD BAND !!! One of the best in the marvellous ninetines !!!

  • Best album of the 90s this one we didnt know how good we had it with the bands at the time, now we have absolute rubbish (mostly yank rubbish) God I Miss the 90s

  • Hot shit, they are top banana. Think I'll go and see them in Crewe on Friday.

  • Love the Dylan Thomas quote in this song, clasic

  • epic song. as fresh as this track was as when it was first recorded. and what is it about this song that sounds kinda really sad.....?

  • @mullingman in any case better than everything after...

  • Can you think of a better name for a band than The Bluetones? They nailed it.

  • how good were the 90s? I mean fuck me...

  • @mullingman yeah fuck me too...

  • @mullingman ......too true m8 wot a era to grow up in so many great bands..

  • Fuckin amazing guitarist in this band....shades of Johnny Marr and John Squire. So melodic!

  • I remember just how open they were when they came to New York. Very down to Earth and AMAZING when it was time to play.... I FEEL OLD!!!!

  • My God, I haven't listened to this in years. Having heard it, I feel the urge to wear an ill fitting Reebok jumper and find some nerds to sit with. And not be liked. Oh, memories ...

  • @RoblinPrime same feeling here.

  • @Desutoroyalove Hehe let's start a club!

  • @RoblinPrime

    yeah cool!! :D

  • listining to this when it 1st came out in America - in the minority listining to bluetones/oasis/charlatns/pulp/blur/suede - knew I was right then and now

  • so don't put your faith in time, it heals but doesn't change, one of my all time fave lyrics ever!

  • "when I am sad and weary and all my hope is gone, I walk around my house and think of you with nothing on"

That's the generic you, you understand

  • "When I am sad and weary, when all my hope is gone, I walk around my house and think of you with nothing on..." LOL I still love that lyric even after all these years :D

  • re, bluetones, bluetonic... when he walks around the house, is he naked thinking of her or thinking of her naked??????

  • LOL I always ask the same thing!! That's why the lyrics is so clever...

    (maybe both?? teehee)

  • bluetones awesome

  • these still together,...

  • Im going to see these tonight =D can't wait

  • I love them as much now as i did then! was 16 when this was released, going to see them in manchester in december 09, can't bloody wait! Saw them in leicester a couple of years ago and nearly cried it was that good.

  • the bluetones and this album a fabulons moment of my teen years

  • Still love this so much.

  • god... 1996... i was 14... and i had the biggest crush on mark morriss

  • ha. me too. I was 15 and I loved him, sonia echobelly and louise wener

  • i miss those days, i was 14 i was lampooned for liking indie at the time

  • pisss off!!!

    i was 23!!

  • does anybody remember the brighton beach club in leeds?speaking of revivalism

  • "no challenge to be faced without a little charm and a lotta style" couldnt of put it better myself!!!

  • these guys were one of the better things to come from "britpop" expecting to fly was their only real work of substance and a bitch to follow ,they never did recapture the initial brilliance , once they were touted as future giants , great band bad timing

  • I agree with you completely. The first album was a blast indeed. They could have been one of the greatest bands ever!

  • They are!!! :)

  • oh so very very nostalgic now - man 1996 was the greatest year of my life music wise. It was like the swinging 60s were back and the summer would never end. Now I am grumpy its over - curses.

  • What a great song! The Brit Pop era was fantastic with solid bands being a dime a dozen for a few years. Those same bands would be the "saviours of music" if they arrived on the scene today.

  • I continue to grow up with this music! ^_-

  • great track.

  • wish i grew up in the britpop scene..

    id of loved it!!

  • i was a great time to be growing up, if i had a time machine i would go straight back to 1996

  • but instead im growing up to shit Manufactured music!!!! bring back Britpop

  • top tune i love the bluetones brings me bk to the days of popscene and kaladiescope

  • Ah wow, this takes me back! Must put Bluetones onto my Ipod now!!!

  • I need to buy one of there albums, which is the best or do they have a greatest hits???

  • Most of the singles you'll find here are on "Expecting To Fly" their 1st and best. I really enjoyed their 2nd, "Return to the Last Chance Saloon", though it probably takes a bit more getting into, some heavier/complex stuff there. They did 2 more, neither of them did much for me TBH.

  • Yeah, well its got everything on 3cds apart from their latest album....it's called "A Rough Outline"

  • I love The Bluetones, will be seeing them for the 9th time in december, this and Zorro are my fave tracks :-D

  • Grew up with this music and this was always my favourite Bluetones song. A classic.

  • 'cant be trusted' was my favourite,it should be on here!

  • Another album that I played on repeat for months back in the day - still top drawer!!!

  • does anhyone have msn!!! msg me my msn live id is jane22fall p

  • proper one .

  • Wow, 30 years old now but can remember sitting in my room at uni at lunchtime stoned listening to this really, really great album. It's actually a classic because i don't cringe at all when i think back - really great stuff. 5/5

  • Not quite underdogs at the time. Their album knocked Oasis off the top spot back in the day....

  • brilliant band. very much the underdogs of

    britpop, but the best...

  • favorite bluetones song

  • ye this is prob theyre second best. marblehead johnson is great as well. and mudslide of theyre greatest hits album (rough outline)

  • this has to be one of their best

  • so what do youse think the best bluetones tune is? mine's Slight Return which I believe is their highest (No. 2 in 1996)

  • so underated >:| just like the delays and shed 7 etc.

  • An old £5 note, nice one...

  • Im still living in britpop world.

Anyone heard colorado beetle (b-side)? What a song - the kind of song that you wish you had written yourself!

  • Yep mate colorado beetle along with likes of teenage jesus, castle rock, dont stand me down etc. Those collection of b-sides are better than most of the stuff polluting the charts at the moment. The Bluetones were vastly underated yet so important to British music.

  • Yep, still have the CDsingle somewhere... Colorado Boat was my fave Bluetones tune but I haven't heard it since...

  • Sorry Colorado Beetle, lapsus...

  • yeah 13 years later and i still love it .. most people know me online as bluetonic.. imagine that ... ??? incidently i play this song on a 360 rick aswell.. considence.. i bet not... but i cant be entirely sure

  • god,

I miss the 90's so much...

The brit pop, the indie rock and so on.

  • i hear ya bro tones grass blur these animal men oasis gene longpigs etc thing is a dont believe its us folk who are gettin older, alot of music is uncreative and uninteresting esp shite like scouting for girls and the kooks....they dont swagger like britpop did.

  • classic 90's - loved them

  • what happened to the bluetones? i f-in loved em!

  • they are still around, played at a free festival in bingley last year!

  • what happened to the bluetones? i f- in loved em!

  • Oskar From Catalonia...The best british band ...ever

  • The Bluetones are still going strong and tour the UK at least twice a year!!! They are touring at the moment do a search...support them ..they are the best band to see live!

  • Just been to see them tonight, cracking gig

  • Bluetones! I got a sparkle tonight telling me to check them out on Youtube, when I haven't heard from them since around 2000 (but hey I'm not English). I was into britpop back then, and really thought they were the best of the lot, now I can see they really were. Something really special.

  • Cool as fuck!!

  • i saw them yesterday at the concorde 2 in brighton. fantatstic band. they opened with this.

  • This song once saved my life :) for real, hehe.

  • how the hell so? O_o

  • Right time, right place hehe. It came on the radio when I was really upset and woke me up from a long depression. Even the smallest songs can do that sometimes :)

  • Right time, right place, hehe. It came on the radio when I was really upset and sorta woke me up from a long depression. Songs can do that :)

  • Adidas gazelles, retro sports bags, Newcastle Brown and coming from Hounslow. All these things I am proud of....

  • Love the Bluetones. This is a crackin tune.

  • Fuckin great wee turbo charged lost gem.... Top stuff, takes me back......

  • hia, I'm new at this. Did you know the adrian mitchell thing or that I wasn't being clever?

  • both !

heheh have a nice evening and keep listen to the 'tones. God I miss them.(Counting the days to see them play live again)

  • ha ha, you too, I've seen them quite a few times too. I'll look out for ya next time x

  • I love the song and the Bluetones in general, i wasn't just being 'clever'. ha

  • The inspiration for the lyrics to Bluetonic is from a poem by Adrain Mitchell, called Celia Celia. In case anyone's interested.

  • I knew it that

  • i didnt know that thanks wot other info you got abt them

  • I'll wrack my brains, and try and add some other nuggets ;-)

  • i have no idea why these r so under rated they really do hav sum classic tunes. i love em, but for sum reason i didnt properly hear of them til after a the 'britpop' thing. maybe im too young im only 22

  • i agree totally underrated some great tunes

  • A disgustingly underrated band

  • Mark looks about 12 in this vid... Made me go 'Aww bless'!!! Still love the Bluetones though - just as good today, if not better!

  • I walk around my house and think of you with nothing on..LOVE IT :)

  • yeah? cool! me too but i'm no tecnobuff and can't upload videos...can only just about manage photos!
