First of all, PJ never said in zeitgeist the movie that "Jesus did not exist", he said - "When you weigh the evidence, there are very high odds that the figure known as Jesus didn't even exist" He is weighing evidence, and comparing it against the several other figures in religious history that had many of the same traits. The only evidence of Jesus is written in the bible, which is self referring, mis-translated and written 40 years after his death at the earliest.

There are physical pieces of art and coin that have both nepoleon, and Julius Cesear on them, physical renditions of their character created during their life span.  Socrates wrote his own work, no one disputes that. Jesus however is entirely 2nd hand stories documented after his death, or retold stories.
