Another great post, cf1970! Thanks for posting some of these classic horse races! This is the race that gave announcer Tom Durkin a genuine scare. He called Deputy Commander the winner with such conviction, that the photo finish could have gone Behrens' way, it was that close! DC won it by a nostril! Luckily for Durkin's sake, he got it right! The death knell of any announcer is to blow the finish of a big race.
